I think Pendergraph and Mills stick while the others are traded/not signed or however it works. Penderpraph will take Frye's slot, Mills will take Sergio's.
Yeah, just stellar. Weaknesses: - Ability to get to free throw line - Ability to play at different speeds - Decision making - Not a true point guard - Settles for bad shots - Shot-selection - Ability to contest shots - Defensive fundamentals - Level of competition - Assist to turnover ratio - Ability to finish through contact - Frail frame - Undersized - Low shooting percentages Sounds absolutely awesome. Can I change my grade to F-? BNM
all that cash spent on #22 OMG! second rounders are not guaranteed contracts...so... 500k down the drain?
Well as they say "Spending Paul Allen's money" If PA and management wants to float the cash to Sacramento to give the team more cap room while also shedding a player who was never going to stick and in the process did nothing but accumulate a 500-600K caphold (I'll have to check Larry Coon's FAQ to be sure) and added Jeff Pendergraph and Patty Mills who don't have to be given contracts until after free agents are signed or trades are made then I think the team accomplished it's goals. It didn't really get any younger (at least in guaranteed contracts) and they added cap space for the summer. It's not a big win, but I'd say it's an inch or two closer to the goals they have this summer.
So we gave up a PG who has good size, is a good passer, but can't play defense and can't shoot for one who can't pass, can't shoot, can't play defense and is undersized and frail. Great. BNM
No way to grade the draft yet because it's indelibly linked to free agency. If we've got a deal lined up for Hinrich that we're waiting until July to seal, it would completely change our grade. If KP was approaching this draft looking only for our new backup PF, I'd give it a B. I'm a big fan of Blair, but Pendergraph isn't bad either, could be a Leon Powe. Claver is intriguing and Mills has a solid shot to make the team, that's all you can really expect that late. Not too sure about Cunningham, we'll see.
First of all, Sergio is garbage. Let's just get that out of the way. Second, Mills is a pretty fast player that can flat out score the basketball and averaged over 2 stls a game. He doesn't need to be a true PG. He's not the perfect player but it's good value for a 2nd rounder.
c- as far as the draft goes. UNLESS....we've spoken with Minny and we'll only know for sure after July 8th. Rumors galore over the next ten days! Just not holding my breath any more! Is Blair still available?
I'm glad Sergio is gone. I was never a Sergio fan, but if Mills is his replacement, it's a downgrade. I repeat - weaknesses: - Ability to get to free throw line - Ability to play at different speeds - Decision making - Not a true point guard - Settles for bad shots - Shot-selection - Ability to contest shots - Defensive fundamentals - Level of competition - Assist to turnover ratio - Ability to finish through contact - Frail frame - Undersized - Low shooting percentages He's a turnover prone ballhog who shoots low percentages, doesn't get to the line and can't play defense. I don't care how fast he is, he absolutely sucks. Come on, he averaged almost as many TOs as assists and barely shot 40% playing in a very weak conference. No thanks. I'd rather pick up someone out of the NBDL to be our 3rd string PG. BNM
Given what we know so far - I would give it about a B-. - Solved the backup PG problem (and some in the forum falling in love unrealistically with a marginal backup PG in the NBA in one swoop). - Got someone to bang a little in the time we had Frye/S-Bo/Stud-Ruffin/President IKE on a small non-guaranteed contract. - Got a good stash or trade chip with our mandatory pick - a pick that will not count against our cap during the upcoming trade-deadline when we might also have a couple of expiring (if they are not moved earlier in a S&T or trade - in Travis/Blake). - Increased the cap for potential help in an "our window is open now" mode. I really was surprised we did not take a flyer on the Blair witch project instead of some guy I never heard of with the #33.
What others are saying about Patrick Mills "He's good. Man, he's fast. I read something that says he's faster than me. They're probably right. He can move." -- Chris Paul, USA point guard "I thought we had one avenue to be successful in this game. That's saying a lot, and that's Patrick Mills. He put on a hell of a show for a young kid playing in his first Olympics with no background in this." -- Brian Goorijian, Boomers Head Coach "It's nothing new to anyone on our team, Patty Mills, he's the future of Australian basketball." -- C.J. Bruton – Starting point guard for Australia "I'm just glad my Duke team doesn't have to play Saint Mary's. He'll be an NBA guard." -- Mike Krzyewski, USA Head Coach "If I was Saint Mary's, I'd be happy to have him right now, because he's a big-time player. He'll be heavily scouted." -- Tony Ronzone, U.S. Scout and Detroit Pistons player personnel director.
Pendergraph's a keeper. I REALLY think they should have selected Blair, but I can live with Pendergraph. Claver and the 2nd rounders (not Pendergraph) either don't make the team or eat our cap space
"In the final game of his first Olympic appearance for Australia, Mills came off the bench to play over 28 minutes against the United States. In that time, he hit on 7-of-16 shots from the floor while connecting on 2-of-4 shots from behind the 3-point line. Additionally, he added three steals, two assists and did not make a turnover against the best players the NBA has to offer. " In six games in Beijing, he averaged 14.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.7 steals per game, while averaging 23 minutes per game, all coming off the bench. He was the leading scorer for the Boomers during the tournament, tied for the team lead with 10 steals, and was second on the squad with 12 assists. He shot 47 percent (31-66) from the floor, 36 percent (8-22) from 3-point land, and 83 percent (15-18) from the free throw line. His highest single game performance game against Argentina, when he scored 22 points against NBA players Manu Ginobili (Spurs), Luis Scola (Rockets), Carlos Delfino (Raptors), Fabricio Oberto (Spurs), and Marcelo Nocioni (Bulls)."
Big deal. He's considered a stud in Australia and he's really fast. He also turns the ball over at a rate that would make Sergio blush, can't guard a chair and can't shoot. BNM
Moving up to get Claver, who appears to be the best player 22, moving up to get Pendergraph, who I've been very high, and adding Patty Mills, were solid picks. Each of these picks help the team. Maybe not now, although I'd be surprised if both Pendergraph and Mills won't help the team next season. They're ready. Claver will help the team down the road. He's yet another young stud in the pipeline. We added players that can help today and tomorrow. Next step is trades and free agency to beef up the roster.
We did great! Got 2 potential good guys in Pendergraph and Mills. But we don't need ANY rookies. NOT ANY ROOKIES!!! We do NOT need to get younger. This draft is POINTLESS for a team like ours. We need vets. All you idiots who think we need rookies, are ... well.. idiots.
