I think he's fine as a 10th man backup part time option at center so we don't have to put a SF there if Nurk is out.

But no, he shouldn't ever be slotted in as a starter of a team trying to win.

    I didn't say you did.

My second paragraph was more of a statement in general, not an answer targeted to your question.

ya klay averaged almost 20 a game in the playoffs this year while shooting 39% from 3 on high volume while playing good defense. if hart has that kinda ceiling, we better not move him for anything less than an all star.

He is one of the few players that was born too late. If he played in the 90s-00s, he would probably be a Hall of Famer. But the way the game has evolved with more perimeter focused offenses, he has been rendered obsolete. He has no lateral quickness and can't help contain guards on perimeter switches.

He's only 28 and hasn't had any serious injuries but he's already been on 5 teams. With each team, he just slowly plays himself out of the rotation.

if he accepts reduced role, then yes, he wont have prominent role on offense here with dame, ant & nurk

that being said, if we can win without dame having to carry us, he should sacrifice and give some of his shots to other guys and become difference maker

You were implying CJ was the best asset to be moved, but in my opinion, allowing a top 3-5 player at their position walk for nothing also has been considered a move (or lack there of).

Yeah I often wonder what some of the star big men from the 90s-2000's would look like in todays game. Probably a number would just be MLE players.

Similar with guards and wings who can't shoot. I don't know if Kersey or Buck would even make the NBA today. Others like Cliff and Rasheed would probably be way more valuable.

Reverse is probably true too, there are a lot of mediocre bigs, wings and guards today that would be stars in those earlier decades.

I definitely miss many aspects of those earlier decades games. There were styles of teams that won in different ways. There was a lot of variance on offense. It was so exciting seeing players go for a fast break. But now; a three on two is just a way to setup another one of the fifty 3 pointers we see in a game.

    https://theathletic.com/3379842/202...-be-first-domino-to-fall-in-a-string-of-many/

To break down the first trade of NBA Draft week, and one that tips off what could be the league’s two most fascinating front-office offseasons, it’s best to start with a simple question. Or rather two questions:

The first is: If you could trade CJ McCollum for Jerami Grant and Josh Hart, would you do it?

The second is: What if I told you Grant and Hart combined still make less than McCollum does?

At the very least, Portland’s trade for Grant somewhat solidifies the foundation of the wobbly theoretical Jenga tower that is the Trail Blazers’ decision to rebuild around Damian Lillard, rather than just trading Lillard and starting over.

To review, it’s not exactly a trade of McCollum for Hart and Grant, but it’s close enough. In February, Portland sent McCollum to New Orleans for Hart, a first and two seconds, with the first seemingly set to be the 11th pick on Thursday … until Paul George got COVID-19 and it turned into the Bucks’ first in 2025.

Stuffing Larry Nance into the deal, along with various other salary flotsam from both sides, generated a $20.5 million trade exception juuuust large enough to take Grant into a later trade. This did not seem to happen by accident.

Fast forward to Wednesday, when the Blazers took that same first from Milwaukee and two seconds, as well as a pick swap of the 36th and 46th picks in the 2022 draft, and traded it to Detroit to take Grant into their exception. (The exact seconds going to the Pistons are Detroit’s own second in 2025, and the better of Portland’s or New Orleans’ second in 2026.)

So if you’re keeping score, Portland now has started what is expected to be a very active offseason by preserving its own lottery pick and still acquiring a big wing. One can argue the idea of Grant has never quite matched the reality, save for the first half of his 2020-21 season, and that he’s not worth his $20.7 million salary for next year; one can equally forcefully argue the Blazers weren’t in a great position to get big wings, and this was the best one reasonably available to them. The Blazers can extend Grant’s contract in six months; otherwise, he’s a free agent next summer.

I know that Joe isn't quite as animated as Stringer Bell but the answer he gave to that last statement was this same speech... and I'm pretty sure that he was agreeing with you that during his predecessor's time we epitomized a 40-degree day.
