I didnt know it was used in the debate contest but its still valid. From players I have seen extently I would say Michael Cooper,Hakeem Olajuwon, and Dikembe Mutombo. Close ones also are Dennis Rodman and Alonzo Mourning.
I'd say Hakeem or Ben Wallace. Hakeem had some perimeter defense skills as well, and the two were the only ones who could sometimes slow Shaq.
Russell would be #1. Another couple of guys everyone is forgetting is Mark Eaton and George Johnson. both lead the NBA in blocks multiple times and played great D against guys like Malone, and Jabbar.
WES UNSELD. He was the only guy strong enough to actually not get backed down by Wilt. (Shaq probably is too but, he never had the chance). If Shaq is a diesel, then Wes Unseld is a locomotive.
