When I read your complaining throughout this thread, I think of you as being one of these two: GO! GeeeeOhhhhhh! GeeeeeeeeeOhhhhhhhh!
Funny thing about that link that had Oden's bobblehead break, this last summer we got a Roy bobblehead for a reward for STH and Karla drop it and it's leg broke off! So I blame her!!
I sympathize with Oden's search. It's hard to spend the $22 million that he will have received by the end of this season. He's engaged in a great quest, to find places to spend his money. I also sympathize with his getting mad when the fans who paid that money say hello. He needs to focus and concentrate. He's very busy helping us win. Please don't distract him or he'll lose his way in his career to spend the money.
Did anybody hear Bill Walton's advice to Greg Oden last week? Eggers: Bill Walton's Advice For Greg Oden Former Portland Trail Blazers center and NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton was in the house last night. Kerry Eggers of the Portland Tribune caught up with Walton regarding his current advice for Blazers center Greg Oden... ----------------- "My recommendation for Greg would be to move to Hawaii, lose a ton of weight, start life over," the former Trail Blazer center said Thursday night before Portland’s matchup with Boston at the Rose Garden. "Focus on health, movement, the happiness of what can be in life, and start over." What, quit the NBA? "What he’s doing right now is not working," Walton said. "Start over. Its not happening for him doing this. Hopefully he’ll be able to come back (to basketball, but) ... do what any rational person would do in a health crisis. Go back to your core, to who you are. It’s not about slight adjustments on the fringe. It’s about who you are, what you do, what you stand for."
You mock. Your mocking is not funny. Oden is extremely injury prone and has been a huge disappointment for the Blazers. If he was a stud it would dramatically soften parental-like concern over healthy living or even attitude. As it is, you CANNOT discount that Oden's oft-displayed poor attitude and his admitted terrible eating and drinking habits have played some part in his failures to date. Ultimately you are what you eat (and drink). Oden doesn't eat right. Period.
He can go out. He can't go out and drink because he has been a fucking failure. Don't you get it. He should treat his body like a temple. He doesn't.
Everyone's a critic. I think in your attempt to score a moral outrage point, you missed my point. I'm not arguing that Oden should be eating and doing whatever he wants. I was arguing that a picture of him in a club one night in no way tells us whether or not he's eating the right things, drinking the right things and living a healthy life. I fully agree that he should be focusing on good nutrition, etc, as he said he planned to. I simply think that this picture is little to zero evidence that he's not doing that. When combined with the "plus he didn't high-five people" and used as essentially as a "Fuck Oden, he's now responsible for all his injuries and is a bust," yes, I think it's quite worthy of mocking. If evidence came out (or he, himself, admits again) that he's still maintaining a poor diet and/or drinking too much, sure, I can understand being critical of him. That isn't the point I'm mocking. I'm mocking the idea that this picture is compelling evidence that he's still drinking too much and not committed to basketball. Can you substantiate that he's not eating right (since his admission that he needed to clean up his diet)? If you're using this picture (or, worse yet, making assertions with no evidence at all), that isn't very credible.
As emotionally fragile as he appears to be, it wouldn't at all surprise me if something as insignificant as Oden being criticized by a few people in a thread could lead to his departure. Greg should go to New York, where the fans and media are so much nicer to players who don't produce, for whatever reason they can't produce.
Yes, fans of no other city would complain about 4 years of nothing. All the owners are lining up to compete for him against that cheapskate Paul Allen. Oden's future has unlimited possibilities. Why stay here when he can start over and repeat with a new set of fans?
Unfortunately it's much more significant, this is the attitude towards him from many (perfect people): Harsh Judgments on a player who's had some extremely bad luck. “I can accept failure, but I can't accept not trying.” Michael Jordan As long as Greg doesn't give up, I won't give up on him. Hopefully the Blazers won't either.
I am not talking about Hi Five's. Strawman to me. Ignore. By Oden's own admission in the past he consumed junk food. By Oden's own admission he drank too much. By Oden's own admission he partied too much. Which means what? Heavy drinking? Lack of sleep? Drugs? A poster shows a picture of Oden at a club. Claims he was drinking. By itself means very, very little. However, we have NO evidence - none - zero - zilch - to show that Oden: Gets good sleep every night. Eats a very healthy diet. Consumes alcohol very rarely, and only then in moderation. You talk about evidence, offer none, and presume virture to exisit as the default. Why?
You are so right. He can leave and go to Orlando where he will be safe from scrutiny, just like Tiger Woods is safe there. He can go to New York where the media vultures there will treat him with respect he "deserves". Just imagine "BUST" in 50 point type.
I wonder if Greg Oden trusts the medical staff here anymore. He's had 3 non-contact season ending surgeries. I wouldn't be surprised if he's beyond skeptical of the Blazers' staff at this point. I mean, he did have his latest surgery performed by a doctor outside of the organization.
He has nothing to prove to you or me. The only people he has to please are himself and Paul Allen. Therefore, any evidence will be presented by him to Paul/Vulcan/The Blazers. We don't get to have that discussion with him. We are not involved. And because we are not involved, any bitching we do is not only petty and ineffectual, but based on assumptions and hearsay. It's all extrapolating public statements and observations, while not taking into account the vast swaths of time he's spent in private conversation/interaction with the Blazers. In short, all the bitching is bullshit. Not only does it not matter, but it's probably not even accurate.
Well you can't blame the medical staff for his 1st knee injury. He hadn't even been to his first training camp yet.
