Heh, both. ;o) because if I have a problem w/someone I'll tell them. But I digress, and I do get your point. But there also is the issues with Greg's rehab ethic, his drinking and clubbing while he's in said rehab, and those pictures, cant forget those pictures......so i think some fans have a right to boo him.

So close to getting Durant . . . if we just ended up #2. (Ironic how happy we were all feeling about #1)

I always thought we should have done a trade with Seattle to swap picks. Probably would have gotten the next season's first rounder in the deal and ended up with Durant by default.

Agreed. When I am in the arena, I don't boo the guys in black & red. I'm not afraid to express a negative opinion, but that is not the time.

Case in point: I never booed Mile as long as he was with the team...but once he started his "screw you Portland" comeback, he became fair game.

There's a distinct difference between concluding that Greg's basketball future is pretty gloomy and stating that opinion vs. misdirecting your anger at the person suffering all of the injuries. Boo his doctors if you like, but booing Greg is bullshit.

Maybe the crowd did that. How would we know?
How does a doctor boo sound different from a player boo?

I'm amazed that Oden is still worthy of a 8 page long thread.

Oh, I have. If you remember, a couple of years ago, I called for the Blazers to immediately fire the entire staff - coaches, management, trainers, doctors, rehab folks, etc. Anyone who could be involved in having failed to handle injury prevention and injury rehab in the best way possible. Said the orgainization had failed and they needed to scorch earth that sucker. Figure out what a team like the Suns does, and model the program on something like that. Hire a world class medical team, put a single individual in charge of managing major injuries (multiple-conflicting instructions being a likely cause of failure).

However, health and healing and durability and attitude and emotion and lifestyle are all connected.

The not so secrets to excellent health are:

Eat quality food - lots of produce, whole grains - very little processed food.

    Minimal alcohol, no drugs.

    Get good sleep.

    Handle stress (in non-harmful ways)

Clues that Greg Oden may be partly at fault for his current woes:

    Poor eating habits.

    A drinker. A partier.

    Blase attitude about basketball.

    Prone to negative emotions.

All of these traits were noted and commented on very early in his career.

Nothing has come out to indicate that Oden has turned into one of "those guys":

a focused, dedicated, no-junk enters my body, I hire the best trainers, I am one of those boring guys because I hit the pillow at 11pm every night, etc.

Am I blaming Oden for not being a monk? No. Do I think he is partly to blame for what has happened. I do.

Until he tries the Jack LaLane lifeplan, we will never know what Oden's body was capable of.

You mean like a page or two back?

And there's nothing "simple" about this kind of surgery.

They removed more articular cartilage that had flaked/chipped/broken off at some point between his last MF surgery and now ... just because they didn't decide to do MF again doesn't mean smooth sailing; microfracture is mostly just to buy an athlete time by giving their body psuedo-cartilage which can extend their career, but it's not a permanent solution. More damage to his articular cartilage and more removals just means less of it to protect the head of his femur and tibia. Maybe they theoretically could do another microfracture of his knee but at some point there's a diminishing return on yet another surgery due to time lost because of the length of rehab. I'm not saying Greg's career is definitely over (even though his Blazers career almost cetainly is) but there's no "good news" here.

You really take the cake, Nic. I never said it was a good thing that he had to have the surgery; I said it was good that they didn't find anything worse that they weren't expecting. As we all know, that's been the norm when they've scoped Greg's knees. But, since you seem to enjoy building straw men to attack, go ahead and have a field day. I'm finished with this conversation.

Not one person on this page has less than 1500 posts, y'all need a life. Oden was a failure, move on.
