Just meaning I would feel better about all the bashing the guy gets if he were a prick like Darius Miles..
Look, I get the point about the number of surgeries that Greg's gone through. That said, has anybody heard a valid medical opinion that having clean out a bit of debris from a knee joint that's undergone microfracture surgery is a serious concern? Until somebody who knows what the hell they're talking about comes out and says something, all of the discussion here is about as significant as a fart in a hurricane.
His other surgeries have been microfractures. They go in and drill holes into the end of the bones in order to promote development of material that fills in the holes in his cartilage. This is simply going in and flushing out the joint. A bit of a difference there, don't you think?
You're missing a step or two here. his first MF came after they went in for a simple arthroscopic surgery, and then found out he needed MF. And iirc, the second one started off the same way. This might be the first "simple" procedure he's had done.
I don't need to know what the prognosis is. How many minutes has Greg played in the last 2.5 years? How many knee surgeries has he undergone in that time period? How old is Greg? The guy is a walking disaster. You're probably one of those people who argued and screamed that Brandon Roy's career wasn't over and that we didn't know the truth about his knees. Where is Brandon Roy right now?
We may not know the prognosis, but we have a diagnosis. So who knows what this does to his rehab schedule for whatever other knee ligament problem he was having and whatever surgery he is yet to have on his other knee.
You may be on to something, he knows how to run a fast break, something our guards have no clue how to do.
Boy, you must have had a really hard time in logic class. Greg's medical history is ugly and anybody thinking about signing him to a new contract next summer is going to look at it long and hard before they make any offer. I expect, however, that they'll do a bit more of an analysis than, "Hey, Brandon Roy had knee problems and he had to retire."
And that's all I'm trying to say here. The good news is that they scoped the knee, removed the debris, and didn't find anymore holes in the cartilage that would have required another MF surgery. It's the best outcome we've ever heard from one of Greg's surgeries. Beyond that, it's the same situation as usual: wait and see what happens.
You're right... Brandon Roy played a lot more in his first four years in the league than Greg ever did.
Only because the recovery time from meniscus surgeries is less than it is from MF surgeries. Brandon was able to play a few days after having his meniscus removed, while the typical recovery time for a MF is about a year. But ultimately losing all of your meniscus and its cushioning effects may be more detrimental to being able to continue with an NBA career than MF surgery. K-Mart's ability to play after double-MF surgeries is an example where that seems to have been the case, but it remains to be seen whether it will work out that way for Greg.
First, the team tells us nothing meaningful until after the fact, so that's not a fair question. Second, every medical procedure with Oden has quickly become a serious concern, so there's little reason to expect or believe this one to be any different.
