Greg did the one thing that will make any fan base turn on them, and that is say any type of disparaging remarks about the city that embraced him, and stuck by him. His "previous issues" at OSU, were a broken wrist.
Exactly. It's almost as if the NBA and the rest of the league thinks Portland dumped on him constantly, and he's a victim of the Trail Blazers and the Trail Blazer fans of mistreating him. Hell, I doubt there would be another franchise in the league that would've stuck by him after 3 microfactures, alcoholism, the nude picture, the knee-cap explosion and constant swelling and delaying of his return. Hell, Andrew Bynum did far more on the court than Oden did, and he was vilified by many Laker fans. It's very easy for Miami (and the rest of the league/NBA) to make Greg out to be a hero, because they didn't invest millions into him, didn't draft him over arguably one of the best players to come into the league in 15 years AND then have to hear about how white the city is, how boring it is for "rich black men" to be entertained/do anything, or that it's somehow the city's fault for his depression. Greg passively accepted responsibility for his issues, but tried to pass it off on others.
Ridiculous. I get so freaking pissed when I read posts like this. It's like fans here think Greg injured himself on purpose. Where you get that Greg blames the city of Portland for anything is beyond me.
I probably can't find a quote of Oden saying bad things about Ptd, but having watched/obsessed over him the past 4 yrs, he never really embraced the city, never really tried. I got the impression he didn't much care for Ptd and wanted to leave the first chance he got. I will write it off to being young and battling injuries and alcoholism . . . but like Oden with Ptd, I have no love loss when it comes to Oden.
And here we have a post stating that Greg is an alcoholic. Another supposed "fact" with little proof. I realize that Greg stated something along the lines of "I probably became an alcoholic" when he was depressed from his injuries, but I don't believe he's ever been officially diagnosed as an alcoholic. Has he ever been in trouble with the law due to an alcohol-related incident? I don't think so.
Did I say that he injured himself on purpose? No. I said that a fanbase still embraced him after all that he did, and that it was unlikely many other (or any other) fanbase would continue to support him. As for him blaming the city, did you not read that grantland interview? That's passively accepting responsibility, not actually accepting responsibility.
So, you're only an alcoholic if you have trouble with the law? And since when does it have to be "officially diagnosed"? My sister in an alcoholic, but she's never been "officially diagnosed"
He made the choices to drink, he made the choices to come back early, he made the choices to not endear himself to the franchise/fans. He's an adult, he made the choices that impacted his life. It's not the teams fault he got injured, it's not the teams fault he didn't have a succesfull career here. If he had said something to the effect of "you know, I was immature, and foolish. I made poor choices, and it reflected poorly on myself." and never once tried ot make it out to be something about how "white" Portland is, it would've been a huge difference. Greg Oden failed because of Greg Oden's knees and Greg Odens choices. No one elses.
Are you even reading julius' s posts? Cause you're not responding intelligently. You seem y too be trying to ignore reality for some weird reason. Julius is stating truths. Sent from my banana using Tapatalk 4
