I don't think it's that. I think it has more to do with how he handled it. Not saying I wouldn't have done the same: Sending my cock picts to ladies, drinking till I passed out or telling people in clubs "I don't give a shit about basketball right now!"

You mean when the Miami Heat play at the MC? Do you think the Heat bandwagon fans would let that happen?

I'd boo him, he was a huge disappointment here, and he was kind of a douche about it. I certainly don't want him to be successful on another team.

Greg is a great person who has had shitty luck. He does not deserve to be booed. People forget these are just normal people with feelings.

What's wrong with booing him? Certainly no one should cheer him, that would be ridiculous. Theres nothing wrong with booing players who fucked over your team, it's not a big deal at all.. Plus, booing can be very fun.

Hypothetically, I know. How good are the heat if...

One: They hold on to LeBron, C Bosh and DWade

Two: Oden magically never gets hurt again and makes a charge at the Bill Russell status?

    Best of all time?

He has lost too much to be Bill Russell status. At this point, he'll be lucky to be a solid starter like Robin Lopez.

Maybe some people don't like how he badmouthed the city? I wouldn't boo the guy, but i certainly wouldn't cheer him.

I've said it before, but on the one hand I'd like to see him succeed because then we don't look so bad for taking him over Durant. On the other hand, I don't want to see him succeed because he's no longer on our team.

    You think?

So if he doesn't ever get hurt again. His knee gets stronger, his body gets stronger, his mind gets stronger. Isn't greatness inevitable?

Sometimes you can't get your athleticism back. It's just gone. Injuries can rob you of it. If you watch that video, he can barely jump. If you compare it to the dunks that he used to make, he's barely getting off the ground now. It will be interesting to see how well he blocks shots now.

I'll happily boo him, if he's actually able to play by that time.

Probably the same reason why they boo Felton?

John, I get that you know these guys personally, but for most people they're just another form of entertainment on the tv. No different than their favorite tv show actor, or their favorite musician on the radio. When someone chooses to become a professional entertainer, they open themselves up to criticisms, and public displays of affection or hatred. That just goes with the job. They get paid millions of dollars because people care about what they do. If nobody cared about basketball, Greg Oden would be a nobody and he wouldn't make shit for money.

So either you can take the money and deal with all the shit, or you can stay another face in the crowd. That's the choice.

For me, though, there's an insanely large gap between my feelings for how Oden treated the team/fans/city, and how, say, Felton or Turkoglu did.

I think this might be a case where absolute silence is the best response. Booing would make us look like poor losers choking on sour grapes. Silence, on the other hand, would be a bit unnerving.
    Save the boos for Kobe.
