Usually the first games are a bit more tense and the level of football not that great.

Yup. Diaby was the player of the day for me (for both games).

France should have attacked more. :(

They're still going to go through, with Mexico I'm pretty sure.

    France and Uruguay.

The opening match between South Africa and Mexico is likely to be a deal breaker for this group. South Africa will needed a positive result to likely avoid a total disaster, while Mexico may need full points just to contend with Uruguay for a spot in the round of 16. Mexico played very well down the stretch of their qualification under Javier Aguirre, but Uruguay played well in a far more difficult qualification group. With strong performances by Diego Forlán and Luis Suárez up front combined with a sturdy defense, Uruguay should be able to push through to the next round, perhaps based on goal difference. France are my pick to win the group with relative ease. Despite the problems they've faced throughout qualification and the infighting, they do have an incredible side on paper. I wouldn't discount them to show up when it counts.

During the Mexico, South Africa game, I was at the Blackhawks parade and once South Africa scored, me and my friends were like "YEAH!".. People stared at us. Then Mexico scored and a cheer went up. I couldn't see the screen but I watched these highlights. Go South Africa!

France v. Uruguay was awful. You'd think a team with Suarez and Forlan would make an attempt at offense, but apparently not. It might be good strategy to start playing for a draw at some point in a match, but to start playing for it at kickoff isn't a good idea, even when it works.

Mexico v. South Africa was a fun watch. Not a fan of the first half as I hate Mexico, but the second half was great when South Africa started playing to win. Would have loved to see that chance the striker had at the end go in, as a South Africa win would have been as fun to me as a Mexico loss. I don't see France going through. I'd love to see Uruguay and South Africa make it, but I think it will be Mexico joining Uruguay.

The last time Uruguay played an African team it was 3-3 against Senegal. Lets hope we see it today, eh?

Pienaar gets a yellow for a handball. Forlan hits the resulting freekick into the wall.
