Do you have any examples? I've heard from the US media that the US should advance, not that it would be easy. The US team has been to 6 straight World Cups and are playing teams that rarely qualify. Advancing to the second round is a fair expectaion of the US team, I think.

I'm not going to dig up old articles I read, but the most recent was what I heard at the beginning of the tournament from Lalas on ESPN. He changed his tune entirely as the tournament went on. From back in 2006 alone, he shouldn't be working at this World Cup or any in the future. The guy is a windbag.

Also, USA advances from CONCACAF, honestly the second weakest in the sport. Slovenia advanced from UEFA and Algeria from CAF. Slovenia went through Russia, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia to get here. Algeria went through two groups where you have to finish in first taking out teams like Senegal and defending African champions Egypt.

The USA are a good team, I won't take anything away from that, plus I am a supporter. However, I wasn't expecting as much as most people were. Too many people underestimated Slovenia and Algeria (not pointing fingers here) and I've been saying since the group was drawn that this may all be turned upside down. It looks like it might now.

You've got to admit as a neutral fan that this makes everything more exciting. :D

I agree with you, Alexi Lalas is a windbag :) I'm getting annoyed by John Harkes too, he's waaay biased.

    Peace

I agree about Harkes too. If you're going to be biased, don't work with sports, yeah? lol

    See you guys tomorrow.

It's been so much fun talking to you guys about football during these first few games. Let's keep it going until the end. Then we'll do the leagues.

Funny think I've noticed about the coin flip in the WC. They don't let the coin land on the ground. Is that a international football thing?

Soccer refs are in good shape since they run with the players, so they have the reflexes to catch it while NFL refs would look silly attempting to catch the coin ;)

It's not just you. Ref was very bad all game long. He'll never Ref a WC game again from the sound of things.

Gots to take care of bizness vs Algeria!

As I said, I'm on a news hiatus, so I have no idea and don't have much of a motive to find out.
