<div class="quote_poster">iLL PiLL Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Harrington is a pretty weak finisher around the basket</div> Yeah, I know. It's why he's a nice scorer and all, but so inconsistent if you make him play a matchup where he is too slow or too weak for it. That could be more than half of all power forwards and more than half of all small forwards in this league. He's such a tweener, but what can we do? We gave up two tweeners and got a friendlier contract tweener who can provide some punch for when Jrich is out.
I'm pretty shocked that earlier today we were only a game and a half behind 7th place. Now we're a game and a half behind 8th. After all this losing i would of thought we were out of the race.
This is the first game this year i couldnt make through the entire game.... i have hung in there in every blow out.... but the effort was so pathetic.... I find myself repeating myself... someone asked why is pietrus in instead of barnes..... you have got to be kidding me.... or wait maybe that was the T-wolf fan from neb..... Az outplayed barnes 7 boards.... b arnes with his typical turnovers .....stupid ball handling...pathetic defense and effort this time..... and how many games in a row is gonna soft foul a guy so he can get a 3 point play.... the question is when is barnes going to be released or sent down to Dleague ? Just a pathetic effort.... usually i can find some sort of bright spot.... I guess sarunas's play and the fact Ellis was well enough to get on the court... I share all the frustrations i have been reading of AL, SJax

MP is the starter, but didn't come out. All the other starters had been replaced. Barnes should have been playing because he played earlier. That's why I asked why was MP still playing instead of Barnes. It could be MP was being showcased because the trading deadline is coming soon.
Part of the trouble is that Nelson refuses to go big at times. He plays harrington at PF -- what the hell is that jazz? MARK FIGGIN BLOUNT had like 12 points in the 1st quarter on Harrington's ass, lol. That's a laugher. Small ball is cute and all, but sometimes it doesn't work. The obvious thing to do is play Powell at PF alongside Biedrins at Center. That's the correct thing to do. In a chess match, that would be the sound move. All others dubious. Going super small against KG, Blount, and even that other fool Smith, trying to put Harrington at PF, or Barnes at PF, or whatever -- dude Nellie that's crap. Other than that, Barnes is a knucklehead. Pietrus demonstrates over-and-over-and-over that he's incapable of learning from past mistakes. He just can't slow down enough to use his brain. You could coach him on the sideline for 5 hours, the moment he steps on the court he forgets everything and the adrenaline takes over. He makes the same bonehead passes and charges game after game after game. And Barnes isn't much better. Those two are battling for clown-of-the-year on this team. Oh, and what was this about? Oh, and another thing: Harrington is looking pretty bad. He just seems like such a soft little finisher inside. These little pattycake lay-ups off the glass and cheesy little floaters that don't fall, like he's always trying to seel the ref on a call but can never actually make the shot and never gets the call. He's always flatfooted, has NO hops whatsoever, for a 6'9" guy he can hardly dunk, Murphy has bigger hops than AL, plus for being overweight he doesn't have much physical presence, it just looks like he has thin forearms and small hands that the ball just slips out all the time. He never palms it and just powers something over someone (like SJax or Baron do). He always needs to fade away or up and under or throw a prayer off the glass trying to get by somebody. He can shoot like hell from outside but, if you're cold out there, you're probably not going to win the game. Gotta go inside. The Warriors need to put Powell at the PF more often, dammitttt!!!!!!!!! Hell, right now I'd even go: Baron Monta SJax Powell Beans Get some toughness and rebounding down on that block, dammit
<div class="quote_poster">AlleyOop Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">Oh, and what was this about? </div> I think SJax blocked Craig Smith's shot and he got ticked. The game was already decided by then so don't know why he got upset about it. Tonight was another upsetting night getting blown out, but I think the new Warriors are trying. We're not getting the results we want because we don't have the pieces for Nellie's offense. I don't know why Nellie doesn't go with two big men, but he doesn't have them screen for the smaller men either. He's always trying to keep the spacing instead. That ends up with AL and Jax trying to make plays or take their outside shot. If they aren't hitting, then things start to look ugly. You really need to have two guys who can initiate plays in Nelson's offense and we don't have that when Baron and Monta are out.
News flash for us, we didn't have that when Baron and Monta were in. It's all about the matchups and shoot, pass, drive ability of the warriors. If we don't dominate with guard play, we tend to get our asses kicked by bigger teams, especially if we're missing small guys who can emulate big shotblocking, rebounding big men who can get fouled. It's either turnover, missed shot, or bricked free throws in the halfcourt. Nobody really finishes that well with authority when we do try to make plays inside in halfcourt. It doesn't really help when the players don't know any plays, either. They didn't know any under Muss, Montgomery or Nelly or else they'd do more besides take the shot they can take at any time: The three ball. 6-26 from 3 point land. Stop shooting dammit! This team had no functioning piece in the middle and at the four ever since Webber or when Dampier/Foyle provided decent middle help as a tandem. It doesn't look like we're going to get one anytime soon with the way we are in the draft and the availability of good big players that can run and play big and know a good deal of the game already as natural ball players.
jason you are absolutely right with 8 minutes something left i bailed..... so yeah i get what you are saying... and Alley is money with his post..especially the harrington assessment I know i hammer barnes.... but the guy is an idiot.... and i still thinks he carries himself like he is the man on the court... i think it all goes back to that game when all he had to do was secure a rebound early in the season instead he went for the emphasis on the grab and lost it and the game out of bounds... that is when it started for me saying keep his ass on the bench. yeah and pietrus and barnes are a two-headed moron monster.... the difference for me....is Pietrus is so likable and enthusiastic.... from what i see barnes is a complainer and a figner pointer... with a questionable attitude Cus i am with ya too.... what does it take .....how many losses does it take to realize the 3 ball you win and usually die by.

Even games when we're up 20 like the Indy game I'm screaming at the TV because I know that lead doesn't mean jack with this team. I've stopped watching games many times, probably a few times a month, its just so frustrating a lot of times. Last night was really terrible but there really wasn't a whole lot we could do. By now we know who Jax and Harrington are as players, some nights they might be able to win you some games, but if you have to rely on them alone then your chances just aren't very good. Don't get me wrong though, I do like them, probably more than most Warrior fans do, but I see them as just being good role players, pieces to the puzzle but not the answer to our problems. Baron, Monta, Biedrins, and J-Rich are guys that we can depend on a little more as center pieces to win games but with 3 of them out and Biedrins limited to defense/rebounding there really wasn't much we could do except hope for another near 40 pt game from Jax.

Or more accurate, a better transitioning team than them. We usually beat them down the court, but if we missed they grabbed the rebound and came running back the other way and and there was practically no defense to stop them. I don't think the T-Wolves shot a lot of 3s, but got a lot of decent perimeter shots, and if they didn't fall, they went to KG or Blount inside. As for the 3-ball, it's probably because the Warriors were trying to conserve energy. Also, you're better prepared for the transition coming back if you miss as well as getting the long rebound. The only trouble is you got to make at least 36% of your shots to make it worthwhile (like the Suns) and we don't do that. I don't subscribe to taking a lot of 3s, but we're a 3-ball shooting team regardless, especially under Baron. If you want to compare with Monty (can't remember with EMuss), then we're shooting it less under Nelson. With Baron and Monta in, we got two guys who can distribute the ball. Usually, one of them will crash the defensive board and lead the transition if they get it. In that case, we usually win the transition game.
I can't see Barnes + Pietrus as the fall guys here. They ain't here because they are some sort of savvy veteran. until this season -combined-they started about a dozen games. Both hustle, both give effort in all areas. Want "smart"? Play Jasekavicus insead of Mike Pete...Oh,yeah,Cabbages is about as quick as Rosie O'Donnell and not any better on D. Jackson knows the game...except his idea of a high % shot is if he can see the basket. Our highly regarded playmakers forget to feed the centers who happen to shoot 60% from the field. Typically its the guy making 25% for the game who's shooting a lot. Our new PF shoots more often than Dunleavy/Murphy...not nessicerily better. Al can miss layups that even Murphy or Foyle would make if really drunk. Monta, like J Rich and Pietrus, has great speed-hops. All 3 have just fair dribbling skills in traffic, need to learn to better protect the ball. Nellie has adjusted guys some, but nothing is complete.
I think it is those ugly red jerseys that are the fall guys.... bring back the blue and gold/yellow..... i think a gold/yellow jersey would be a better look for the alternative jersey
<div class="quote_poster">boogielew Wrote</div><div class="quote_post">I think it is those ugly red jerseys that are the fall guys.... bring back the blue and gold/yellow..... i think a gold/yellow jersey would be a better look for the alternative jersey</div> What do you think about a black alternative jersey? haha...idk just a random idea. Too many teams are starting to become blue like the Nuggets and the Grizzlies. Black and Gold would be different for the NBA these days it seems.
You know that is not a bad idea..... the Sanatonio Spurs went black back in the 90's, i remember it was huge marketing along with the raiders ..... and the team had success going black ....well that and getting david robinson..... oh and ..... chicago white sox also went black in the 90's and well they had success too.... and ..... the atlanta falcons went black.... and not much longer went to the super bowl with that dirty bird. And how can you forget the mighty san diego state aztecs who abonded their red and black home scheme for a solid black jersey and they for the first time since the 80's made it to the tourney i think there is something to be said for going black
The Warriors look great when their shots are falling. The bad news is that you don't want to stake your claim on outside shooting. Contender teams don't hang their hat on outside shooting, because that's off-and-on. Contenders hang their hat on defense, and inside scoring. Also it doesn't hurt to have a a superstar like Kobe/Wade to get 20 foul calls a night lol. But that's the bread and butter: defense and inside game. Because defense is the easiest to be consistent with: it's mainly effort. Outside shooting teams with no defense and weak interior games? well, they're usually around (oh, what's the Warriors record) sub %.500. I mean the Suns are run-n-gun but they're WAY more athletic than GS and they score a ton of lay-ups. Right now GS is living with the outside 1-and-done. Crap, they're giving up MORE fast breaks with those ugly bricks than they're getting themselves, it seems. C'mon Nellie, we need to shake things up. Try a decently-sized line up, just for ONCE!
AO, I've been saying that ever since I joined this site. Defense and Inside Scoring is a must. We've never had that. The closest was 2003 when Dampier was an inside force because of his contract year and because of Clif Robinson and Speedy Claxton being tough defensive guys inside and outside. I even saw flashes of that when Ike and Biedrins were on the floor at the very same time and the perimeter was keeping guys contained. No good can come of just playing shifting zone defense, having no true to life power forward or heavy center for heavy center matchups, and guys who can't finish, shoot free throws, dribble or pass the ball without turning it over. And if we don't rebound on both sides of the ball, we're dead too. Team rbounding has been going downhill ever since Muss in that 2003 year, which means to me, it is more important to have two strong or decent defenders at the PF/C spots that can both block shots, rebound a little, pass it, and score inside. Who knows if we could have transformed Biedrins into a high post passing type of guy down low to Ike? We would never know because Nelson/Monty gave up on him, he didn't get the minutes despite being very productive and doing the things that real big men do. Who knows if we could have added even more to a real power forward/center type tandem by adding additional guys to Biedrins/Ike lineup. To me those guys are more useful for what we need to accomplish right now. Guys who can catch, finish around the bucket, are aggressive, and can only get better. I really dread small lineups that can't finish, can't shoot, and they don't play big for their size. Only Ellis has been able to impress me a lot, but he's too young to depend on to get us to the promised land. And Baron is only one guy who is very injury prone. I don't hate Don Nelson, but I question whether small ball is going to turn this franchise around. I think it's the wrong direction and we would have never traded Murphy/Ike if it weren't for Nelson's style and prejudices and Mullin's crappy spending habits. Yeah, I'm glad we got rid of Murphy, but not when we're getting Al Harrington. In the offseason I was totally for keeping Murphy instead of Al Harrington. At least we get scoring and we get rebounding in addition to outside shooting and probably better free throw shooting as well. But we know that AH ain't no PF, he's a SF with a bigger body than most... It's very hard to feel good about this franchise unless something huge comes up and changes the landscape dramatically. But we just totally liquidated our frontline to get rid of Dun Dun. That's just heartbreaking because now we definitely don't stand a chance unless something big happens at all-star break.
Cus the one thing you didnt mention ....that trade brought us some cap relief... which also bought a litle bit of flexibility... hopefully Mullin has learned from his past signing mistakes.... offers MP a reasonable amount... locks in AZ for cheap ... and shows BArnes the door ...asap I personally think we should go after MAgliore... but i know we wont.... he may not bge everything we need.... he certainly wont fit Nellie's style....but he would give us an option....a big option in a half court set.... and he is a free agent to be.... i dont think we have the pieces to make it work how about primo brezec for zarko and barnes? If Memphis is really lowering its sights and wanting to save money... maybe an offer of pietrus, barnes, zarko ( all expiring contracts ) and foyle plus picks for Gasol?

And I'm hoping for any suggestions because I'm not sure what the next move is or what is realistic. I wish we could have our cake and eat it too, but what can we do in that situation Mullin gambled on in 2004 offseason.
