Boone played against Amare and Shaq

Najera didn't play when it mattered the most, because when it matters the most you don't put your 5th string bigman in the game

    :sigh:

Najera could have done a better job guarding Amare than Yi/Anderson/Boone
He actually could have helped us win.

haha that's great if you think that Najera is going to lockdown a talent like Amare.

By the way, Amare only scored 14 points tonight. He's not the reason we lost.

I'm not saying he is going to shut him down, of course not. At least he could have done a better job holding his ground and making him take harder shots which would have eliminated the double-teams in some plays, therefore no open 3s for them.

still bitter about this loss, but at least can take it. we knew it's not going to be easy. it's hard to expect a win against league's top-5 team. hopefully, by the AS break we gel a little bit and will battle for all 4 quarters instead of 2. at this point we must take wins in games we have a shot. obviously, against our next opponent we have no chances :(

Can someone give me a summary of Yi's game? I'm trying to keep tabs on all the Chinese players since there are so few of us playing in the league :(

If you think Eddie Najera can guard Amare without requiring a double team I don't know what to tell you.

He started slow but in the 2nd quarter got in the zone and played real good in the 2nd quarter. He made some shots, drove to the basket, got fouled, played with intensity and battled for the boards with Amare( Even got a block). IMO he was our best player tonight.

Still a bit weak on defense though

looked like he was trying to force an issue, and not always successful. did not shot well from the field, did not defend well either (though no one on this team could defend Shaq & Amare). overall, Yi looked decent, but nothing spectacular.

I'm not saying that! I'm just saying that he is more experienced, can play better and smarter at the defensive end than our young bigs against a stud like Amare. Therefore, giving us a better chance of winning the game, that is all.

I'd just like to add that I had the over 201 on this game. So I lost by one. About 15 different missed layups or open jumpers could have gotten me there. They had 75 points with over 4 minutes left in the third. And this stupid team can't get me more than 11 points in 16 minutes? Are you kidding me? I really am starting to hate this team. This season is going to be endless.

He wouldn't have made a difference, because Amare was not the reason we lost, and he's not that much better defensively than the guys who we put out there, as Amare only had 14 points. Najera is the 5th big on that depth chart, he's there for a reason.

The fact that Amare and Shaq got doubled gave the suns' players wide open shots. So indirectly, he was a factor to their victory.

But the point is that Najera wouldn't have made a difference either way. Amare and Shaq demand double teams against nearly every team. Najera's being a vet doesn't mean he can stop/contain/slow down either of them.

Every time Vince goes up for a layup, gets touched by a defender/teammate or runs I'm surprised he doesn't get injured. He seems like he's made of glass out there. Luckily they've all been minor injuries so far.

I understand that. But I would like to think he would have done a better job than our young bigs defending those two. I'm not saying we would have won, but he would have given us a better chance IMO.

hes missed 9 games since joining the nets?

but yes, you are right. he reacts when getting hit and it does look a little over dramatic for what it is. at the same time, he gets zero credit from the fans for playing through this minor hits and bruises and finger jams or whatever. hes still out there playing and people act like he doesnt care.

i would think fans would like vince for being out there playing through it but apparently....ehhh not so much.

I definitely love the fact that he plays through his injuries. My only problem is that he keeps getting them. I know he's been durable since joining the Nets and that's great but it doesn't change the fact that he's been grimacing after dunks, drops to the floor, getting hit on the hand, etc. which makes me worried that one of these days he won't be able to play through those injuries anymore.
