The Jazz aren't doing much on offense until the Rockets do something, is it me or is this game a lot slower pace than the 1st half?

Rockets doing somewhat better.. The game is still in reach. . we just have to get our "D" back. Tracy's shooting WILL get better, and I fully expect the Rockets to win this game. 12 points isn't at all a deficit, we'll pull this back midway through the third. Interesting game so far.

Im liking how Tmac is doing things different now.
He started passing after I complained "Tmac needs to PASS" [IMG]
He will be a 20/7/6 player this year.

    LETS GO ROCKETS, LETS GO.

Wow, Yao is being butchered by refs so far. He could easily be dropping thirty some points against Utah if he didn't rack up so many fouls so quickly. For people who are watching, are the refs being particularly harsh against in this game?

Note though, McGrady seems to be back.

    EDIT-

God I hope not. We need more scoring from him.

Shot Selection, early foul trouble (letting Jazz get too many points from the FT line), and ... Jazz were on fire (especially Boozer)

Yao and Battier foul trouble with Utah amazing 1st Quarter shooting. T-Mac hasn't done much either.

Because our guys keep turning the ball over, McGrady was bricking shots in the beginning, Yao's was in foul trouble, Boozer's owning us on the boards, Alston's shooting poorly, and only the two stars plus Snyder (sorta) are producing points.

BUT, I have faith that we're probably going to start out slow and then work our way into a better record later on in the season.

According to the stats, Mr. "Acquired To Win Now" Battier is the worst player tonight.

Okur has 5 fouls. If we can foul him out, they have NO answer for Yao. None at all.
Alrite, Battier is getting into it. Rockets down by 11, 5:35 to go in game.

Thats whats special about Battier though, he does so many things on the court that doesn't show up on the statline. Plus, tonight he actually doesn't seem to have that bad of a statline. So far he's got 8 points, 3-5 from the field, 2-3 from the arc, 2 steals, 1 block. Not bad.

EDIT: I can't believe Boozer has 19 rebounds, and the game isn't even over yet.

JVG really needs to work on what is suppose to be an inside-outside game. It seems to be anything but that. For one thing, Yao should touch the ball at least once on every possession. They need to play off of Yao. Instead, he usually shoots about 75% of the times he does get the ball. 10% of the time, he gets stripped. The other 15%, he passes out, but only a small part of the time it leads to a made 3pt shot. The idea that he'll pass out to open shooters does not seem to be working.

I said this last year, but the Rockets need slashers more than shooters. They need to give Yao the ball, than have at least one player cut to the basket. More movement and less standing around. There was one play where Snyder cut to the basket and Yao found him for the dunk. That's the type of plays that need to be incorporated into the Rocket playbook.

Mcgrady's shot is still off. Poor FG and FT shooting. I hope it's just rust and will get better soon. Is it the need ball?

Also, I just saw the box score for the Grizzlies game, and let me say again, I don't like the Battier trade. Gay had 21 points, 8 rebounds, 1 stl, and 4 blocks. I'm sorry but I did not see anything from Battier in this game that makes up for his mediocre stats.

Speaking of the Grizzlies, does anyone know the status of Swift?

First off, I'd like to say nice little analysis Evolidiot.

That was in 3 overtimes. Obviously his stats are going to be inflated a bit. Plus, I'd like to add he wasn't matched up against Carlos Boozer of all people, but rather Channing Frye (I'm assuming Gay played powerforward). While Battier isn't an offensive beast by any means, at least he played within his game and stayed effective. Gay on the other hand went 8-21 from the field. Meanwhile, Battier went 4-6 from the field and 3-4 from the three. Still, I'd like to go cliche and say that only time will tell which team benefits the most from the trade.

The Rockets lost tonight. They need to work more on their defense and rebounding. It seems the Jazz always get a lucky break everytime the Rockets come back. Boozer was just unstoppable tonight, scoring and getting tons of rebounds. Also I didn't like the way officials made calls in the first half. I wonder why they didn't play Howard. Mutombo looks sluggish and slow. The Jazz don't have a dominant center so I would prefer Howard or Hayes playing the backup center instead of Deke who wasted easy scoring opportunities. I wish Bonzi could play next game. We neeed someone who can score inside aside from Yao as well as additional rebounding. Although the Rockets shot fairly well they did'nt have enough offensive rebounds to make up for those missed shots. That's where the Jazz took advantage.

It was 3 overtimes, but Gay only played 6 more minutes than Battier. Gay did not had the most efficient shooting game, but it was his debut, so I would give him some leeway on that. What really impresses me about his stats were Gay's 4 offensive rebounds and his 4 blocks. Battier shot well, but he also only had 1 rebound and 0 assists in 32 minutes. I personally did not see enough intangibles to make up for that.

I would actually love to have Battier shoot a lot more. Who's to say that you can't have tangible production with the intangible. The Rockets desperately need a third scorer, and it does not seem to be Snyder or Alston. Battier is better shooter than those two, but he seems content on being a 10 ppg scorer even when the Rockets needs him to shoot more.

Even then, Battier didn't play well. His offensive stats are average, but he's known as "defensive specialist" and stuff. He let Boozer go off, he didn't do his job. I hope JVG lets him know he isn't doing what he came here to do.

Tmac needs to go to a court and work on his freethrows. Real bad this season. I would love to see him drive in a little more.
