Yet guns used in school shootings don't generally seem to be black market guns.

I think that's already been done. By definition.

    A hilariously empty gesture.

Anyone with a composter can make their own ammonium nitrate.

Anyone with a few boxes of wooden matches can make a bomb. Or burn down a building full of people.

You can't legislate bad people. You can't prevent them. Not without enslaving yourself.

Yep. No point in having laws if some people break laws. Right?

Looks like boy's parents should be more responsible. The guns should be locked up properly, which supports my theory that there needs to be education on safety.

Sly should run a "register the children" campaign

My theory (and it's only a theory) is they should either send the kid off to well regulated militia school for wayward boys (that'll learn'em), or they could just abort him a little late.

the fact that his mother (and possibly more family) knew this fuckwad had mental issues and yet still allowed him to have guns (they lived together ya?) is beyond me. I think I even read he received help to get guns from family members too? Like, IMO, his family should be held partially responsible for this pyscho's actions.

That's meant to cover, among other things, cases where the kids gain access to the parents' guns.

The point is to hold gun owners VERY responsible for their use.

Granted, I don't think this is going to stop criminals from getting guns illegally and using them. However, the harsh penalties should deter some.

This is a facebook post from the mother of the shooter. Gun culture is out of control in this country.

Here is an article about her stockpiling guns for fear of Obama.

And look at what has happened. The government has come in and taken all of her guns.

She was right to be worried.

Wow, this is from that article:

"She told my husband she just purchased some new guns a few weeks ago and took him shooting. I thought the whole situation was very strange. If you know your son has mental health issues, do you encourage a fascination with guns?"

Steele spoke out two days after Harper’s heavily-armed son murdered eight students and their instructor before fatally shooting himself.

Steele said Harper told her that Chris was “sickly” as a child, had “mental problems” growing up and suffered from Asperger's."

Not to mention other weird personality quirks about his mother. Sounds like they were both crazy, except the mother was functional and was able to legally purchase guns. No law or background check is going to fix that problem, unfortunately.

Our country has a gun fetish. It's disturbing.

Actually, it's a constitutional right fetish. Maybe more should really get on board and support our freedom. I could care less if you choose not to buy guns, or even tell others to not buy guns. But once the government starts politicizing their agenda with tragedies to punish the "law abiding citizens" for wanting to own guns, that's when you get protest. GOOD FOR THEM

Your right unfortunately, its really hard to build laws to protect against that. What we need is a culture change, the rabid fixation on things like guns and Obama is creating a paranoia that people with mental disorder seem to latch onto. That and we could actually help people with mental disorders rather than use them for gun regulation scapegoats. 9/10 I just described will also be against any form of "socialized healthcare". If fucking ridiculous and shameful.

Well, at least you realize that it is a fetish. That's a start.
