I believe Aikido practitioners can defuse threats in conjunction more efficiently than adding more bullets to a classroom. None of the scenarios in these situations are ever ideal.

Oh Geez! Come on River, you are thinking like a Creek! While it is possible, it is a ridiculous reason to not have the means to defend yourself and those that depend on you for defense.

You may as well hire mercenaries and ask them to teach.

I'm defining defense by a group against an individual in an alternative to adding more weapons to the mix. I get the rational from pro gun practitioners..I've been one myself, I've changed over the years....and if I'm a creek, it's because we're in a draught

Ha! Ridiculous! What the video demonstrates is not to point a gun at someone unless you have the will and the intent to use it.

My last school job of 15 years we had panic buttons under the teacher's desk that were for SWAT team response..never had to use it thankfully but I have taken knives from folks 3 times

thats cute if you're being robbed by some idiot thug but a trained officer would not hold you at gun point that close. you would be in a green zone aka more than 1 move to contact. you would wait for back up to subdue. if an aggressive move is made toward you you have to fire.

thats why i said offer teachers a bonus if they are willing to train. its completely optional and if they choose to take on the responsibility they are compensated. even if only a handful opted in, people now have to consider their teachers may be armed, so maybe the school isnt the best place for them to shoot at defensless targets

It's ok, you can critique the teacher...it's just info..make a better one and post it. I've studied self defense and I sure don't know everything but education is part of the conversation. What exactly is your solution?

Then cops would kill everyone they point a gun at, crooks and soldiers same? That is what I would call ridiculous

no, they wait for backup and subdue the assailant. no one should go cowboy holding a gun with 1 hand and handcuffing with the other. it's kind of like basketball, team work trumps melo chuck every time.

you're right you can still move backwards and maintain a safe distance. i should have said you have to be willing to fire. what a lot of people dont realize is most untrained people holding a gun are too scared to use it.

I always wondered why tranquilizer darts wouldn't be the most effective weapon to control threat...if you need to bring down a Bengali Tiger, you tranq it.

Well you don't hold a gun on man that close while he is on his feet and free to move. If you are that dumb then the liberal view that you are likely to be the victim if you have a gun is true.
Of course, could hand the guy, a knife, or a club the same way. The dude is a victim looking for a confirmation.
