Why are we bashing Collins? This was his 1st year as our starting PF and we were 8-3 in the 11 games he played. Give him a full season at starting PF before calling him a bust.
The guy plays with oven mitts on his hands. He goes up soft and constantly gets blocked in the paint. He can’t stay on the court due to foul trouble or injury. The best ability is availability.
I'm kind of shocked with the negativity directed to Zach the player. Maybe the 10th pick was a horrible price to acquire him. But thats a sunk cost over 3 years old completely irrelevant to improvements of the team going forward. I look at Zach the player now the same as if he was an undrafted G league player we signed and can now extend this summer. Zach had nothing to do with the decision to draft him at what spot. That is a judgment that should only be reflected in Neil's job performance. It seems like some fans just want a Blazer player to rip on personally.
While we're torturing ourselves, let's imagine we kept #s 15 and 20 as well as 26. What's the best three we could've ended up with? I'm going to say: Jarrett Allen OG Anunoby Monte Morris (Flint!)
I think Zach is talented and has a big upside....but reality is he's been fragile and hasn't made the leap Trent made this season yet....he might healthy but do you wait 2 more years for him to click and develop him or bank on Lillard's prime and get a veteran big to help contend over the next 2 years....it's a valid question moving forward...he's either going to break out or be damaged goods...thing is we just don't know yet.
People sitting here calling Zach Collins fragile seem to have forgotten just how many times Anthony Davis was out with an injury. Shoulder injuries and ankle/foot injuries happen to big men in the NBA. In all actuality Zach has had a couple injuries. One of them required surgery on his shoulder and then this latest foot injury is pretty mild. Calling him fragile is just plain crazy talk.
