If you have to go back 70+ years from when their roster beat an NBA team, then you haven't really made a strong point.
I believe they deserve it for that and other reasons....it's a collective reward if they get one for decades of excellence
So you honestly think the Washington Generals (and the rest of their opponents) were on par with the Globetrotters or other NBA teams?
Of course not...I've already said I separate the schtick from the talent and explained all this as did you....again..we disagree...no point to play ping pong with it..I'm curious though...how many Globetrotter teams have you seen? I started following them in the Meadowlark Lemon era....if you think he was a scrub, you don't know the Globetrotters....I saw them in Eugene a few years back and the passing and shooting skills were off the charts...as well as the athletic ability to dunk a ball and sit on the rim after dunking it....how many dunk contest NBA players can do that? Wilt wasn't a scrub just because he played against the Generals
You do know they aren't actually serious about this, right? they don't have the billions that it would take to become an expansion team, nor a place to play (etc). It's to get attention.
That's not what I read....and how do you know who is interested in buying an NBA franchise or has a place lined up to play?....Vegas is begging for a franchise as is Kansas City and Seattle....there's no lack of interest or money for buying sports franchises....most people say it takes about 4 years to start a new franchise in a new location and fund it. Bezoz or Musk could fund it tomorrow if they wanted...every sports franchise is about "getting attention"...that's just marketing. I'm going to assume a team that petitions for a franchise has a business plan in place... If they were poorly run they wouldn't have been around since the 1920s having been started by a bunch of hoopers from Chicago in the 1920s...that's a model of stability
They are owned and operated by this company who also runs many theme parks ...two of Dolly Parton's Dollywood and another one and Wild Animal parks and Aquariums throughout the country.and in Canada..they are based out of Atlanta Georgia...They also own the Generals Herschend Family Entertainment - Wikipedia
They would play in Harlem of course. Build an arena there. They are owned by Hershand Family entertainment All of the other stuff can be figured out. They would get players from an expansion draft. All expansion teams are shit when they start so who cares if they suck
They were actually formed in 1926 in Chicago...I don't think they'll be stuck with Harlem as home base...they could easily be the Kansas City Globetrotters or Las Vegas Globetrotters. If the New Orleans Jazz can become the Utah Jazz I don't see a difference...
Seems to me the league would need two expansion teams ..one for each conference to make the expansion conference wide
You guys will think differently about this after Olshey trades Dame and Nurk to the Globetrotters for some guy who shoots free throws blindfolded. barfo
we disagree....I can't believe you compared any Globe Trotter to Steven Segal....ewwwwww...dude....! I think you're both underestimating how they would go about building a roster, coach, etc...if they got a franchise...they know they have to have top shelf talent to join the dance. The Vancouver Grizzlies didn't win a championship overnight...that's for sure
I think it's more likely they move a team like the Grizzlies or the Pelicans to the eastern conference and both expansion teams become western conference teams. One the NBA is already set on Vegas and Seattle as expansion sites. Two it would balance things out a little better strength of conference wise.
