The anticipated battle between baseball’s best pitcher and the game’s best hitter didn’t register much in the way of excitement.

Bryce Harper came away the slight victor by drawing two walks off the seemingly unhittable Cubs right-hander, Jake Arrieta — one in the top of the first and the other in the third.

This bases on ball theme was would turn out to be very prevalent. Harper matched a single-game record by drawing six walks (two intentional) in what turned out to be a 13-inning affair. In his only other plate appearance, he was hit by a pitch. Prior to Sunday, nobody in the last century had reached base seven times in the same game without getting a hit.
