    Super early take on Barnes based on summer league games:

    First of all, hes a really, really good shooter. Not Klay/Curry good but hes absolutely lights out spotting up and flashes the step back/pull up midrange J as far out as the college 3 pt line.

    His handle is very shaky. In addition he doesn't have a good first step and hes not quick. As you can see in all high highlights, he can get into the mid-range area at will, but either his man will recover or the help defense presents itself and Barnes can't get all the way to the rack. Hes actually been quite aggressive in SL trying to make things happen off the dribble, to mixed results. He does get to the rim on occasion, sometimes he'll throw up a floater type move 10 feet from the rim, a lot of times he'll opt for the trusty pull up/step back.

    He gives nice effort on defense but needs to improve his technique. Lack of quicks hurt him here but hes athletic enough to be a fine defender with more experience and smarts. Doesn't create for others. Rebounding is up and down.

    Overall his upside is like a Rudy Gay or Rashard Lewis or a bigger Jason Richardson. Hes already probably a better shooter and has those fadeaways, step backs, pull ups that Martell never had, and hes bigger. Hes 20 so the handle will probably improve, but he doesn't have that innate understanding of how to get to the rim like you see from Pierce (who he's often compared to). You see that even in MKG who is pretty raw, but just has that instinct of getting to the hoop.

    Right now I think the Blazers did well taking Lillard. They needed someone dynamic with the ball. Someone who can compete with the myriad talent at PG in the NBA. They needed a scorer and a primary ball handler. Dunno how good he'll be but at this point you have to think hes been at least as good as Barnes, and hes the more dynamic player. Additionally, I'd say Batum is the better SF prospect at this point based on his defensive impact and similar offensive upside.

    I think the comparision should really be more of Lillard+Batum to

    Dragic+Barnes+DerrickW+picks

    Both packages have a lot of potential upside but a lot of potential risk. This could end up being a ridicoulsly lopsided comparision 5 years from now.

    I don't think that line up was ever possible.

    If we drafted Barnes, no way in heck does Minny even come close to offering DW, even if it is only rumor. They'd know we'd be hamstrung and have to get something for Batum.

    Dragic was a UFA and who knows what the FA plan would have been if the Blazers took Barnes. Would they still have gone hard after Hibbert? Hard to say.

    I think it is pretty funny how you and a couple of other posters are apparently so butthurt that you have to keep bringing me up in several threads after 4 games in summer league...lol...apparently you have thin skin\got feelings hurt by what I said :dunno:

    Lillard has played well...against d-league type talent...let's see what he does against NBA caliber PG's before we annoint him as our next savior....
