He was a really skilled prospect coming out of HS until he got hurt.

With the amount of bigs we have, only way this guy gets on the floor would be in the backup PG role right?

I like this in theory, because Giles has talent. But I hope we trade for a ball-handler at some point. Also, has Giles ever been healthy?

But doubts aside, this is a low-risk gamble. Thumbs up.

It's crazy, we just went from having Hezonja as our 9th guy to having Giles as our 12th. The talent upgrade overall on this roster has been massive.

You'd think there'd be more NBA players called Harry given when Harry Potter was first published.

What is this strange feeling? Could it be optimism? It's unfamiliar anyway. And when the Lakers sign Gasol and Whiteside for the minimum that should clear it up.

IMO, Portland had a hole at PF. Their only 6'10ish guy appears to still be injured and recovering from surgery. And you need guys like that if you want to compete with the Lakers and AD. And since they are the champs, and in conference, competing with the Lakers should be a priority. It's clear AD can overpower a lot of people but he absolutely destroys any SF bodies teams throw at him.

so Giles, on paper, fits the need. Now, I've seen so little of him I don't really know what level of play he can bring. Kind of a mystery. But at least he's not the 7th SF body Portland has

I was not aware that Giles was that good of a passer to cutters. If only we had a cutter on this team that can finish strong at the hoop... Jk but I like the idea of Giles to DJJ.

I'm not sure if this is a signal about Wenyen. I think Giles is an upgrade that checks all the boxes you'd want at Biggie's position, a guy who can hold down the fort if you go big but Collins is either injured or in foul trouble. Wenyen to me was more of a small lineup 4 or 5 who can defend on the perimeter and even shoot out there on occasion; I see he and Giles as complementary more than redundant.

Other thing is he's a facilitator. Very good high post passer and if he shows a willingness to take (and make) elbow jumpers, the rest of his game really could explode.

He's a player I coveted his draft year. He's young, Really like this, very high reward, low risk.

Giles is sorta built like a wing, but plays a big's game. He's a bit frail. Listed at 6'10, but I don't see that while watching him. Not sure he does much on defense against AD

    This.

The Blazers are building a roster that can match bigs for bigs with a team like the Lakers while not being at a disadvantage against teams that go ultra-small and quick. They can put scorers on the floor at all positions or be able to put average to above average defenders at four of the five spots. The Blazers should be able to either adjust to different opponents or be able to impose their own style on almost anyone, so long as everyone buys into their roles.

A decent backup PG and possibly one more shooter and I don't see a glaring weakness on the roster.

    Some thoughts:
    1) Love the idea - a supertalented, but injury-racked player on the cheap. If he can recover from
his injury riddled past, we get a top of the lotto pick quality player for just a roster spot.

    2) I watched the video above - his passing is tremendous. Luke Walton stuck him in the high
post, and he was hitting a lot of cutters (here's looking at you, Mr. Jones). This is in addition
to his dunking power and athleticism. Frankly, reminds me of the skill of Poku, with superior physicality.

    3) He was just signed for 1 year - we don't get his Bird rights. If he stays healthy, and breaks out,
we MAY have trouble re-signing him, which would be disappointing. I'm sure the guys will make
him feel at home, though. Many of our players have had significant injuries, and can relate to
    Harry's problems.

    4) There's gotta be a Harry Potter joke in there somewhere, I just can't find it right now!

I think it's just presence as much as anything. AD can't just shoot over him or overpower him down onto the block. It's also six fouls ... you have Zach and Giles and if one gets in foul trouble you aren't suddenly trying to guard Davis with a 6-7 guy.

He doesn't have to be able to lock up AD. He just has to make him work. The Lakers are so depending on their top two guys, anything you can do to wear them down is an enormous benefit.

    Means no more Wenyen Probably.

Final tally for Zach Collins trade:

Blazers: Zach Collins and Harry Giles

    Kings: Justin Jackson

    Neil wins again.

I have two daughters. My eldest listens to Tupac and other hip-hop and classic rock.

My younger daughter might know as she listens to pop, but she mostly listens to female artists.
