Yup. A guy can be over-paid and still be a good player. He can be a bad fit in a particular situation and still be a good player. In all the heated arguments this board had about CJ, that was a nuance that often got lost.

Agreed. I like CJ but I understand it was time for a change. Of course I was hoping to get an equally or more talented long 2 way player... But those guys are all stars. Wasn't going to happen outside of Ben Simmons.

Well it's going to see how much the young improved through the off season and includes Simons and Little that's going be in the rotation every day. Plus what we do in bring players in FA. We could have have a decent team under Billups if everyone buys into there roles.

in those 6 games he's scored 136 points on 133 shots

This trade is looking better as time goes by IMO, especially the dumping of Powells long term contract and frankly Winslow/Keon look better and are much cheaper than an ageing Roco who they resigned for 2/24. The extra money freed up made acquiring Grant and GPII easier as well as re-signing Nurk and Simons. Powell and Roco off to horrible starts in first 3 games.

Since the pick turned into Grant, in my mind the trade was...
    Hart/Winslow/Grant for CJ/Norm/Nance/RoCo

    A couple of thoughts:
    • So, we really traded 4 rotation players for 3.
    • Winslow is good, but really a borderline rotation player, imho.
    • Hart is the SF we wish Norm was, but wasn't.
    • The long athletic Grant is the PF some of us have been missing since the Biotch left.
    • The trade was actually addition by subtraction, but in a weird way - we reduced the number of "bad" defensive players in our rotation from 3 (Lillard, CJ, Ant) to 2.
    • The roster is more balanced, with some of CJ's $$$ going to Grant. Of course, the roster isn't completely balanced yet as we are a Nurk-injury away from serious trouble.
    Quick Note:
We made another trade: 12 wins and the 12th pick (random guess) for pick #7.
Good trade, imho. It may turn out to be great!

The only thing I would disagree with is Winslow. I like him better than Roco, and Nance. He is most definitely a rotation guy now that he is healthy. His BBIQ, defense, strength, and ballhandling for his position offset any lack of outside shooting IMO.
Love when he is on the floor.

I agree. Winslow is a Draymond Green type of player. He is not as good as Draymond was in his prime, but that's likely because of injuries. He is not paid like Draymond either. Winslow is the kind of player that helps you win.

pretty clear, to me at least, that another product of the trades was being in the position to draft Sharpe. Keeping those former players would have given Portland a few more wins and dropped them lower than Sharpe's range

yeah, if Winslow is a "borderline rotation player", so are RoCo and Nance. Same for Powell as a SF

The 3-0 start to the season is starting to become more epic than last years magical "4 game winning streak".

It's been a very fun 3 games, but lets see what the team looks like after 20 games before using these tiny size results to prove Cronins trades were good.

I currently stand by all my statements bashing Cronin's moves and the trades. If the Blazers are #1 in the West after 20 games I'll take it all back. Would love to be proven wrong.

Well sure, just think if the team trades Dame right now for nothing, we could possibly be in a position to draft Wemba.

Or perhaps its a better strategy to maximize the return from outgoing players while simultaneously positioning a team to tank.

Many posters here where making similar statements during the epic 4 game win streak last season, how the Blazers would be in the play in if not outright playoffs. Then the team finished with a historic amount of losses.

Lets see how the Blazers fare over 20 games. The last year of McMillian the Blazers also started 3-0; ultimately culminating in the Felton/Jamal Crawford/Caleb Kanals disaster of a season.
