A jump from finishing 10th in the West to tied for 2nd in one year isn't major improvement? How is that "just making the playoffs"? We made the jump from a non playoff team to a team who only finished behind the Lakers in the standings and having home-court advantage. Where you one of those people last summer or at the trade deadline saying we wouldn't make the playoffs without making a major move? If not, then my comment wasn't directed towards you anyway.
Damn, I'm sorry I missed it. Did Antonio ask him why Martell Webster was tooken* over Chris Paul? BNM * Antonio actually used the "word" tooken during a game broadcast this past season - in reference to how many free throws the team had "tooken".
I can see it now though... opening night.. vs the Lakers, rousing chants of BEAT LA! BEAT LA! Then the arena goes dark..... *silence* Now Mark Mason directs our attention to the Spotlight... Ric Flair's entrance music starts playing over the speakers.... Slowly the 2nd round banner is unveiled. A Tear drops down Roy's cheek because of the accomplishment. I'm getting chills just thinking about this.. The only question that remains.... Where are we gonna hang the banners for all the 2nd round appearances? lol... And when we lost in the 2nd round, it would be Nate's fault and because of our lack of a 3rd scorer. Somehow if we beat the Lakers but lost to Denver, it would have been Nate's fault and because of our lack of a 3rd scorer. Rinse and Repeat
You know what Nate's biggest failure has been? Sergei Monia. That guy had All-Star written all over him!
I remember after that draft Nash talking about how he thought about using one of those back to back picks in the 20's on HA.
Four guys no longer in the NBA. What? Telfair's still around? How come I haven't heard anything about him in three years?
Hahaha... I heard Ha was nice too! Victor helped get us LMA, so I've got nothing but love for the guy!
Most teams make several moves every year and every team is continually taking risks. I'm sort of hopeful that the Blazers take a risk staying with Bayless, Rudy, Roy, Batum, Aldridge, and Oden. STOMP
Great, now I'm gonna have nightmares the night before the draft. After the trade with Dallas, we have 4 picks left. I can't imagine any way we could end up with 4 worse players than we did in that draft. OK, I lied. I can imagine one way, but that would involve someone kdnapping Kevin Pritchard and bringing in John Nash as interim GM. Great, more nightmares. BNM
The dude signed Theo Ratliff to a huge extension. The guy extended Zach Randolph at the max. I believe he extended Miles, as well. Re-signing each of them at the levels that he did would be bad enough... but EXTENDING? It was a radical departure from previous Blazers decision-making and truly breathtaking in terms of how bad it was for the franchise. Looking at the main trade he made--Rasheed for SAR and Theo--the Blazers actually took on tens of millions of dollars of salary. The whole "ordered to reduce salary spending" might have been true, but he might have been as incompetent at that part of his job as he was at the rest of it. Ed O.
Yes, looking back at the Nash era, the only good thing you can say, was he botched so many things, that we sucked just enough for KP to be in the position to bring in some good talent. But remember, Theo was just having the time of his ass before being resigned. He averaged 4.5 blocks a game during a 32 game stint with Portland after being traded....I think he won defensive player of the year. But still, that was a bit excessive for a 7pt 7 rebound center.
Who said it wasn't? I said the next step is harder then that last. Nope, I assumed we would make the playoffs this last year. I was wrong about the win total (I predicted 48 wins, not 54). However, I do believe they need to make a move to get to the next level. Perhaps I will be wrong again. I would be more then happy to be wrong about that.
Theo made the 2nd All D team in 2003-4. At the time, I couldn't believe that they extended him... I recall it being a 5 year deal at 10M+. Besides giving you nothing to speak of on offense, he had a history of being injured and was on the wrong side of 30. Dude had another year left on his contract. Well, at least we all were able to bask in his wonderful character. STOMP
