Well, he surely was on Blazers radar this year. I love his attitude. He is a competitor and I would like more guys like this in our team. If, per exmpl, Harkless had Zach's attitude he could be lot better (IMO). I just don't like this "great culture" stuff. From coach to Meyers, there are no Rodmans in this team. It is sport. We not going for Peace Nobel prize and smart talking not gonna lead us to the finals. I just like this guy as a competitor, that's it.
Honestly if Nurk could shoot like KAT can shoot then it would drastically change the way offenses have to guard us. The thing is, Nurk has show he has a decent shot, so maybe it’s more a topic of Nurk not having the green light...
I don't see Kat or Nurk as a athletic defensive first center. Nor do I believe KAT will ever get to being that type of Center. Nurk is a defensive first Center but he's not the elite level athlete that I'd like at that position.
Nurk started shooting from outside last year a little more. Wasn't bad. He is still developing. His shot, with work, will get better, and he will use it more.
This sounds overly critical, but he needs to learn to finish consistently at the rim, he got better as the season went along but to many weak plays around the basket.
I'd rather gave a coach who is willing to get on his players ehen they don't bring their all, and not be afraid to yell at the refs when thry make some of the worst calls in the game of basketball. Instead we have this And this
nah....I have no reason to think Stotts doesn't get on players at practice or in film sessions.....Thibs, Rivers, Van Gundy just yell all the fucking time...and have locker room problems or front office conflicts....I'll take Terry's calm all day long. Brad Stevens doesn't need to scream at players, nor does Steve Kerr
It depends on whether there is a personal insult included, otherwise any old mother fucking shit goes.
It's a player's league. Stop saying this. Did Pop "get on" TT or did he capitulate and acquiesce? Even Pops capitulated to TT's whiny bitch shit...
You gotta be careful about getting on a ref's bad side. Yelling at the refs is an art. If you yell too much you're gonna get the team in trouble. Guys like Pop and Doc are experts on how to express harsh feelings to the refs without getting 'T'd up.
KAT is great offensively, but sucks ass defensively. Thibs is supposed to be a defensive mastermind, but in his 1st year in MIN they ranked 27th of 30 in defense. That same year (2016-17) POR ranked 24th in defense and everyone around here wanted Stotts fired. So, they brought in perennial DPOY/1st team all defense candidate Jimmy Butler, and guess where they finished in team DEFrtg this year - 27th (they were dead last in the league, and it wasn't close, when Butler was out). If Thibs, the supposed defensive mastermind, cant get KAT to play a lick of defense, what makes anyone think Stotts can? With Nurk, POR moved up from 24th to 8th in team DEFrtg. That's a HUGE improvement. Be careful what you wish for. I'm not interested in POR becoming the new MIN minus Butler? BNM
I disagree, it was reported all season long that Stotts was getting on players for lack of effort. Specifically Nurk/Moe. Nurk & Moe even saw their asses riding the pine. People were all over Stotts for benching Nurk. But if you take the emotion out of it and really look at it. If a coach has said over and over again to a player what you expect of him. Only for the player to continually make the same mistakes, what is left for a coach to do other than bench said player? Should he yell and scream at the player in an attempt to embarrass him? My only criticism here is it's been shown over Stotts' tenure in Portland that there are times players tune him out. But at the end of the day, it's on the players to listen to their 'coach'. And on the GM for bringing in said players. There are many things I can criticize Stotts for, but this is not one of them. I have no interest in watching the coach act like a child on the sideline. Edit - you look at the Batum days. At least Portland now has a coach who is willing to bench a player when he is lackadaisical with his performance. Batum certainly was never benched for tossing up soft shit or floating by the previous coach.
I don't remember it that way at all. The issue many (and myself included) had was Stotts was not treating all the players equally. He'd bench Nurk for poor effort, but wouldn't do anything about Dame/CJ poor effort.
I thought they just paid wiggin the way he ended the season would be good enough mid to high 50’s, he finished the year well.
