And that could be the very reason Olshey wouldn't hire him....

I'm pro Clifford - I would love a good defensive minded coach. Or, maybe because I want to call him the "Big Red Coach".

D'Antoni and Melo never really saw eye to eye. If we bring in MDA, Melo will not re-sign.

    Added benefit, i suppose

Well he dunked his way to 14 points, 11 rebounds and 1.6 blocks in his 4 years when he was mostly a starter with HOU on .626% shooting in just under 30 mpg. Sounds like a legit part of their team to me. Would love to have a center who with those number who was that efficient.

    Bring back Terry Stotts!

Even I get it! After 10 minutes of pondering.

Terry wanted to play a faster pace game but was hesitant to get on his Super Star pg for not wanting too. Dame is currently more comfortable playing a slower half court pace where he looks for a three, then a drive, then a P&R.
I want a new coach to really push the ball and use athleticism to put a defense on their heals. Watch how many times Curry doesn't bring the ball up. Tell Dame thats what I want him to do as well.

who does the editing on this stuff?

His playoff heartaches have been well-chronicled, with D’Antoni going 0-4 in second-round matchups and 0-3 in the conference finals (his playoff series record is 10-10). Ironically, his best chance yet at securing a title as a coach may be the one unfolding in these playoffs with the Nets.

How is that record in the second round possible if he's been to the conf. finals?

I really don't know what the attraction is for and increased Pace.

here is the top half of the NBA this season in pace:

    upload_2021-6-10_10-9-47.png

7 of the top-10 teams in pace didn't even make the playoffs. And only 5 of the top 15 teams made the playoffs

and then there's the bottom half of the league:

    upload_2021-6-10_10-15-11.png

Portland essentially had the same pace as Utah, and a faster pace than Dallas, Phoenix, Denver, and the Clippers

pace may make for a little more entertainment but it sure isn't a key to winning basketball

I’d only be ok with MDA if he hired a top defensive coach. Stotts has nothing on him offensively btw

I think there's a false equivalency with D'Antoni teams always being fast paced. He adapts to his roster.

    In Houston, the pace rankings:
16-17: 3rd, roster had a bunch of athletes and Harden
    17-18: 14th, traded for CP
18-19: 26th, CP gets a foothold and they become more methodical
    19-20: 3rd, Westbrook replaces CP

And the offense did not suffer when the pace changed.
    ORTG:
    16- 2nd
    17- 1st
    18- 2nd
    19- 6th

Let's not forget that in 17-18, were it not for Paul getting hurt in the conference finals, the Rockets would have taken down the KD-Steph-Klay-Draymond healthy Warriors team in the WCFs.

Also, if we were to get MDA, I would not be too quick to get rid of CJ.

D'Antoni is the offensive Thibodeau, in that he runs best offensive players to the ground and doesn't trust any ancillary players. Also his teams with Paul and Harden just ran iso the entire game, but played at a fast pace.

I can't believe some of you guys want this guy. I mean aren't you guys always complaining about how Stotts plays Dame too many minutes? Dame will average 38 MPG under D'Antoni. 48 in the playoffs.

? Paul averaged 31.9 mpg in his two years in Houston. He had two of the most elite iso players, so they played iso.

His NY teams were middle of the pack in assists. His PHX teams were at the top of the league in assists.

Long story short, he doesn't have a SYSTEM. He changes it to optimize his personnel, a skill we haven't had in forever in our head coach.

Not sure why I'm stanning this hard for MDA, but he's not bad. As I said, ANYONE would be better than Stotts

D'Antoni would implement an offense that would get Dame easier looks and reduce his wear and tear; and at the same time get easier looks for his teammates. I would be absolutely fine with D'Antoni, and I'm sure both Olshey and D'Antoni would agree that he would need at least one assistant who is a high-level defensive specialist.

Want to improve the defense? Play Powell instead of CJ, Little instead of Melo, Collins (Is that guy's ankle EVER going to heal?) instead of Kanter, and keep RoCo. Done. Even better if we can pull off a CJ for Middleton trade.

And those simple changes wouldn't hurt our offense one bit.
