Sure, I see what you're saying. Just tax sweets and skydiving. Are you also taxing beef? How about pork?
Yes! What the US needs is a more complex tax code! Can't believe no one has ever thought of this before! barfo
a push for a healthier society will require advertising in commercials on tv and radio etc. already see some commercials like this.
why is it s different discussion? Health care must be funded. Im' proposing a way to fund it where the highest health riskers (by choice) pay more into it than those with a lower risk lifestyle. Thats all. Is not the main hold up is how to fund universal health care? how is it s separate discussion? My push back all along has been with universal health care and everyone paying in equally, isnt fair. That's all, figure out a sliding scale for high risk vs low risk lifestyles and id be for it. So taxing high risk lifestyles more will hurt the poor? Is it only the poor eating fast food and going rock climbing? You wil have to explain how that would hurt the poor. I thought having them healthier would reduce their health care needs no?
why do you bother? eek. Gads all we need is a universal healthcare system! I cant believe no one has ever thought of that before the last few years….!!! Everyone before is just an idiot!! gimme a break… This is a real discussion. Please dont quote me if your not gonna be real about it. some people here may genuinely enjoy discussing the details with others whether we agree or not. Or are you just one of the many peanut gallery folk who only chime in when you think you “got one over on the other poster?” If your not gonna engage seriously then please dont quote me.
It's already funded. A Canada style system would cost us much less. There is no additional funding needed. Keep the current taxes in place and there is more than enough. Your sin taxes really aren't necessary. But if it makes you feel better and you really want to give the government excess money and make taxes harder for businesses, not to mention make shopping more cumbersome... I mean, sure...
You are actually proposing and incredibly complicated social engineering program to regulate society. Congratulations you have turned freedom into oppression and more government control by introducing a new system that is impossible to monitor and keep updated, but keeps government in every aspect of your personal life and lifestyle decisions.
We should have options whats so terrible about that. Government provided health care or private. It shouldn't have to be one way or the other.
How else will you get better health advice and info out to the public? Wait until they admit themselves for care?
as opposed to having to pay into someone elses bad habits? Like i said. Nothing good is easy. But hey forcing me to pay inti something to aid others’ bad habits isn’t taking my freedom away at all is it? lol.
I should clarify. They pay more, but not a lot more. Canadians pay 15%-33%. Americans 10% - 31%. Both based on levels of income. Canadians get a lot more for paying just a little more. Universal healthcare and other public services such as a higher quality of education and more efficient social services.
We are talking about healthcare. They spend less on healthcare. What we spend on the military isn't relevant. Just like Canada's tax rate isn't relevant.
You let them talk to their doctor... most people will go to the doctor once there is no point of service cost. Then just get them on the schedule for their next checkup. Then you start removing subsidies for unhealthy things. People will choose the most cost effective options, and once the price for unhealthy items are no longer artificially low people will buy less of them. There doesn't need to be a large advertising budget. A commercial here or there isn't bad, but it's also not necessary.
