Im probably the only guy in here thats twice turned downed her cookies. Sugar issue. There used to be a sugar free bakery near me but they went tits up a couple years ago.
Just got off the phone with Lanny! He's doing better but still pretty weak and tired from his potassium/heart problem. One of the first things he asked was if anyone has read this thread. DUH LANNY! We all care about you! Anyway, he says hi to everyone on here and he'll be posting soon when he's feeling a little better.
I'm home now and about to go through my last session of Hemo Dialysis this morning as I continue my transition to peritoneal dialysis. With any luck I'll continue my education on how to use the peritoneal machine on Tuesday and be weened on Wednesday. Oh, and I will never drink orange juice again which is high in potassium and got me in trouble last Monday. I've been through hell because of that. It's beautiful to back in here and alive.
I need prayers. Even got a Catholic priest to volunteer to pray for me. I'm not Catholic but damned close, Episcopalian.
Now I can travel. Just give me enough heads up and just try and keep me away. I'll bet you'll bring tears to my eyes. I'll pray for you to have the blessing I have and be eternally wed. Choose carefully as I know you will.
I had never heard of a peritoneal machine. Dang, Lanny. Also known as automated peritoneal dialysis (APD), this method uses a machine (automated cycler) that performs multiple exchanges at night while you sleep. The cycler automatically fills your abdomen with dialysate, allows it to dwell there and then drains it to a sterile bag that you empty in the morning.
Glad to see you back posting on the boards today. That's a good sign, but keep fighting the good fight and stay off that potassium!
You can do peritoneal dialysis either manually or by machine. Unless you lose power or the machine while traveling you always use the machine. Your belly has a perit0neal membrane which acts identically to your kidneys. You pump in a sugar solution which, over time, filters your blood, via osmosis. Periodically You withdraw the sugar solution which is now yellow from your belly. I've been warned to maintain my renal diet even while doing peritoneal dialysis. PD is done by machine at night while you sleep. The other drawback is you must be EXTREMELY clean.
