Perhaps they all read those Donaghy excerpts and decided they were going to call as many fouls on both sides as possible to show they're unbiased.
Under scrutiny, Tim would now be the most honest referee in the league. And Violet...they got rid of her?
I find it really depressing that the first thing I thought of while watching the game was "man, the refs must have some shenanigans going."
at one point there were 7 possessions in a row that ended in free throws(though two were continued by offensive rebounds). i'm not sure i'd ever seen something like that before.
I'm almost positive I haven't... at least, not in a Blazer game. Maybe in the bad old days of the 1997 or 1998 playoffs, when 80 point games were the norm...
I just checked, and Palmer is still an NBA ref. She just hasn't done any games this season so far. Last season she did 65 games, the season before 63, etc.
At the same time, I would point out that this was pretty near or was a playoff intensity basketball game. Folks scream about how they want running offense. This is what happens in the playoffs. Physical play. Tons of fouls. No easy buckets. Lots of game play stoppage. You have to be able to execute in the half court. I expected a playoff intensity game last night. I just wish it didn't happen this early in the season so the team could get some chemistry going first.
so she's reffing nba and doing this? : "On May 28, 2009, Palmer was hired as coordinator of women's basketball officials for the West Coast Conference.[5" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Violet_Palmer
yeah she stepped down last season from reffing nba games, the ref site you checked must not have updated.
last year when it came out that she accepted that position they said she was going to continue reffing nba games.
Hey but look at the bright side everyone, at least they put a "no-tipping" rule in the new CBA for the ref's now..... Somehow, someway, Donaghy's book is going get out and cause waves........it just keeps sounding more and more legit.
I think this is a very strong possibility. The game seemed managed, not one side or the other being favored but rather something about the score being shaped. The 4th quarter was freaking insane. I wish I knew more about betting. Or maybe I wish I knew less. Ignorance being bliss and all.
