You guys realize we had a great coach a little while back but let him twist in the wind and eventually he drifted away.... can you say Dave Cowens?

That guy was a very good coach. Yet St. Jean/Cohan failed to back him up or get him any good players and eventually there were no good players left. I recall that this was at the end of the Sprewell era which gave us Chris Mills, John Starks and Clarence Weatherspoon.

Same old, same old. Maybe now, Mullin will be here for a while and he and Higgins will be on the same page.

^^I remember Cowens. The team actually started off decently I think they were 5-3 and then things went downhill from their that season. It started going downhill when Jamison started complaining about lack of playing time in the 4th quarter. Under the pressure from Jamison; Cowens put him in during the 4th quarters and thats when the team started playing terrible.

Thats the thing I like about Muss he tries to put in the best lineups(though not always the best) to win the game and he doesn't care if you're a star, you have to earn the minutes. If Muss played Dunleavy in the 4th instead of a more deserving Cardinal the warriors may not have won as many games as they did. I think once the warriors were out of the playoffs I think he should have played Pietrus more and Dunleavy though.

Now that Mullin is now VP of basketball operations, i wonder how much longer it will be until this firing of Musselman will take place. If they decide to fire Musselman, i'd assume that it will be sometime in the very near future.

As a Warriors fan i'd be sad if they let Musselman go, just like when the Warriors traded Jamison and Welsch. I hope that they would be able to bring in someone good though in return. But i guess it wouldn't be all that bad for Muss though, if he got let go. He'd be able to get out of this garbage, like what did Jamison(even Arenas, Fortson, and the countless others that have been lucky enough to leave this franchise) say about this franchise? I think it was like something about being in jail or something. Something i bet Musselman would love to get as far away from as possible.

Let's hope the new coach doesn't piss off our contract players.

I would like to see Musselman stay, but only if he has Mullin's full support. If Mullin can't put his weight behind Musselman, the sooner they part ways the better. The Warriors made a mistake two years ago by not having a coach in place before the draft. Its clear that Dunleavy and Musselman don't mesh well. It would be interesting to know who Musselman would have picked had he been involved in the '02 draft.

Now Mullin can pick a coach that fits the players on the team, but my guess is that Mullin has a coach in mind already, whether it be Higgins, Elie, or someone else. But it would make a lot of sense to name a coach before the draft.

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">The hiring of Rod Higgins or someone else as the next coach: Though he remained coy on the specifics, Mullin sure didn't try to hide his appreciation for Higgins, his old teammate.

Will Mullin make sure Higgins is a big part of the Warriors' reign? ``I hope to,'' Mullin said.

    What are Higgins' strengths? ``Experience . . . loyalty . . . professionalism. . . . Everything that you'd want.''

Is there a timetable for when he'll make Higgins' role official? ``That's in the near future.''

When I asked Rowell why Mullin wasn't given St. Jean's general manager title, even though St. Jean was stripped of it, Rowell gave an important answer:

Well...at least we answered that question.

And I'll continue to repeat myself until I get any proof one way or the other: I hope Mullin knows what he's doing.

I agree walker, Mullin has a lot of positive hype given his history with the Warriors but he really hasn't proven anything yet. He has said all the right things and now it is just a waiting game. Should be a interesting off season.

I fear the Ainge syndrome that could be in effect.

    Dampier for Raef La Frentz!
    Pietrus for Ricky Davis
    Speedy Claxton for Chucky Atkins

I hope this is something that us Warrior fans should not have to worry about with Mullin. He likes this core group of guys and will try and build around these players.

Man all this talk about new coaches makes me feel sorry for Musselman. It must be even more maddening how players or certain office management can just throw him out like that. I say give him two more years. He didn't really do anything wrong except for when we were playing without a backup center and Musselman kept yanking out our best rebounder and shotblocker and tried to run a lot wit run NCCCJ (Nick, Cliff, Calbert, Craig[speedy], Jason). A lot of good that will do you when you force a miss and then can't get the defensive board because you're too small and don't have natural rebounders on the floor! Everyone remembers those close games where he yanked out Dampier (even though he wasn't in foul trouble nor tired) and put in Cliff Robinson as center. The loss to LA by one point because they put Cliff against Shaq. Then there was the Toronto game where the game was lost because nobody could protect the lane, score or rebound. Dampier got the only two points in that one helping at least tie for the fewest scored points in a quarter.
If it weren't for Damp, the warriors would own that record with zero points because of Musselman's dumb substitions. Also when was Calbert our best defender?? It was Pietrus all the way and you saw that in the beginning of the season when he was helping guard Allen Iverson/Erick Snow along with Speedy.

I would be very interested to see how Muss really feels about this situation. Sure he must be a little upset being fired after turning this team around and making the Warriors competitive, but he will have options that might be more favorable than his situation here in Oakland. What about him going to Boston? I think he would be good for that team.

Jiri would be back on that Boston bench behind Ricky Davis if Musselman became in charge.

Since we are on the topic of Musselman, who do you see as possible options for Muss assuming he is fired as the Warriors head coach?

He should go to Denver. He'd be great because he could play all the veterans and carmleo anthony. And keep Tskitishvilli from developing.

All the rumors I'm hearing is that Musselman will be headed back to Atlanta or to Orlando if he's fired. I'd prefer to see him go to Orlando, they look like they have a better chance to be successful than Atlanta.

He's one of those guys, like Welsch, that I'm always going to root for no matter who he's coaching.

If they played Tskitishvilli this year, the Nuggets wouldn't be in the playoffs this year. I'd rather win, he'll play when he's ready. I really feel he should earn his minutes, same thing goes for Darko. Unless the team is definitely out of the playoffs, I would only play the players that are going to help you win.

I'd love for the Warriors to sign Avery Johnson as a player/coach. He's going to eventually be a great coach in this league.
