Yes. It was an unloaded gun in Hillsboro, as is legal to do in the open.

I am in favor of gun rights. I am in favor of the 2nd amendment. I just don't think it's okay for someone to go around with the intention of causing a disturbance, and that's exactly what this guy was doing. If he was merely transporting his gun from one place to another, great, I have no problem with it and he would be completely within his rights. But these guys who like to walk up and down busy streets with their guns on their back are doing so with the motive of drawing attention. This would, in my opinion, be considered "disturbing the peace."

This dude knew what he was doing. He walked in front of a school for a reason. If the intent is to cause a panic, bring the cops out, etc, he was breaking the law.

    http://criminal.findlaw.com/criminal-charges/disturbing-the-peace.html

"When a person's words or conduct jeopardizes others right to peace and tranquility, he or she may be charged with disturbing the peace."

"Generally, disturbing the peace refers to words or conduct that compromises the safety, health, morals or overall peace and quiet of the public."

He was 100% within his rights to walk down the street carrying an unloaded gun.

I find the "outrage" in this thread to be a bit ridiculous, and I still wonder if the guy who walked near the school with his gun did so as an anti-gun advocate, and wanted to rile up people. Why would so many people call 911?

please show where it says it was unloaded. I didn't read that. I know that the man refused to give his name, he is not required to show his shotgun is unloaded, so I don't see why we should assume he showed the cops. I could be wrong, perhaps it's mentioned elsewhere.

I actually agree that it's completely legal.

I just find it in very poor taste, and I think if he, and others, continue to disrupt school like this, causing lockdowns and police to check it out, then laws, restrictions may need to be made.

On a side note, I have heard about similar demonstrations elsewhere and I do wish that if these people want to make a point, they perhaps have a sign and inform police ahead of time. I imagine a day will come when one is misunderstood either by police or by an armed citizen and death will result.

He didn't disrupt school. The principal did.

As the principal should have. You see or hear that there is a person in front of the school with a gun you lock the school down.

Watched the video in the OP. The guy wasn't within 100 yards of the school.

It may well be that there are many times people go by the school that close carrying concealed guns. Just nobody knows about it.

I believe that's what everyone is doing here, giving their opinions. Mine just rub you the wrong way. But in case of the transgendered teen, I don't think anyone is suggesting any actions of any kind, people just view it differently. It's just a discussion.
With regards to the man with the shotgun, I also did not suggest anything other than he is going to bring down the ire of the community if he persists, and this may have the opposite effect of what he intends. And if schools keep being interrupted, then fixes will need to be looked at.

It is legal for registered sex offenders to buy a house in my neighborhood and set up their residence there. It is legal and their right.

Doesn't mean I will like it or put down my guard. If I could I would keep any registered sex offender out of my neighborhood. And if they move in I will give them as much hell as I legally can.

I think this armed person walking around in the vicinity of schools is a jerk and an idiot. He may not be doing anything illegal, but that isn't the kind of person I want in my neighborhood or around a school I'm associated with.

Somehow I feel Zimmerman might be his hero . . .

If it's the law, and his gun isn't loaded, as is the law, then of course.

What does this have to do with Zimmerman, other than you saying you'd confront somebody legally on the street outside of your house and harassing them?
