Hey, it's his choice to give up his tickets. But The team is not a dumpster fire, and still is competitive with one of the League's best talents. But don't come off as if the team did you wrong. I wish I could become a season ticket holder this year, but my ship hasn't arrived yet. The Blazers are one of the few things that makes me smile about life today. Cost of living, climate change, lack of common decency for our fellow man, are everyday downers, that while I do my best, it seems like it's never enough to make a dent. The journey to achieve what many think is impossible is what drives me as a fan. It's easy to be a fan of a Champion. A frontrunner fan. What shows you have a pair as a true fan is to stick it out during the difficult times, because the payoff is so, so much sweeter.
Once my GoFundMe gets going and I buy the Blazers I'm keeping them here but renaming them the Blazing Dogs!
I love this it really echoes how I feel about the team. I'm still going to criticize the hell out of the team when I think they could be doing better but I love watching the games anyway and really like the hope of the team getting better. I wouldn't mind being a frontrunner fan for a little bit but will stick with the team no matter what.
Don't you do it you son of a bitch! (obviously just a reference to you being a male dog not a personal attack) We're the Portland Trail Blazers and it needs to stay that way. You can just make this guy the mascot. That's his real name, not a joke.
I would hope Jody sells the team sooner rather than later and we get an owner as passionate and knowledgeable about basketball and Portland as Paul Allen was. I may be wrong but it doesn't seem like Jody or the Vulcans know much about the sport and instead just care about the financial side.
If they just cared about the money we'd be run like Donald Sterling ran the Clippers. We would have traded Dame.
are they? I don't have any handle on how profitable they are. I'd assume Seattle knows, and also knows the financial difference between having Dame and not having him on the team. I mean, the minimum team salary is 101M this season. Portland will be less than 40M over that. That's less than a million dollars per home game so I can see that there probably is only a few million difference (at most?) between paying Dame and not paying him. And that would be made up just playing one playoff series...which Dame always gets them too. I also read on Forbes a while back that when teams sign local TV contracts it is quite usual for the contracts to have triggers for reduced payouts if advertising revenue falls due to people not tuning in. Dame is the biggest reason most people tune in
https://www.forbes.com/teams/portland-trail-blazers/?sh=38ca55aa27d7 According to that Forbes article we were profitable last year even in the pandemic. It says that the team has profited by over 200M since 2014. It also shows that the team's valuation in that period of time has gone up by over 1.3B. So yeah if this is just a money maker for Vulcan and Jodie... it's a damn good one. Their moves don't show that though. They show a team that they trust in the inept hands of Neil Olshey and that's it. Big TV, local TV, attendance, profit sharing, advertisements and merchandise are what make the team profitable besides owning their own arena instead of leasing it. Neil seems to be trying to build a contender without taking any risks. It's a bit of a mess for us as fans but having a team that looks like they're trying keeps fans coming, watching the games and clicking on shit and attendance, ratings and interest factor into team valuations. So as long as attendance and local interest don't tank and as long as Neil stays fiscally responsible, the Jodie probably keeps him around. Mediocrity seems to be their friend... sure playoff runs or a championship would be nice but it would just be icing on a cake that is extremely good to Vulcan.
I wouldn't put a huge stock in the accuracy of numbers published in Forbes about any private businesses. They are just guessing. barfo
You will know when they become financial laggards, they’ll pull the plug on this “Official Trail Blazer Message Board”. Come to think of it, Im surprised they haven’t already!
The Blazers Edge meltdown over Chauncey may have bought S2 some time...this place is the Neil Olshey of msg boards...talent for survival
