The key is ridding ourselves of Turner. Hood can do everything Turner can do. We have to find a way to keep all three.
So correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're saying that a stopgap starting center should be the MLE priority?
No. Meyers might be that stopgap. It's just thinking about that made me figuratively throw up in my mouth a little... I'm actually loving Meyers play this season. Flaws and all.
This is the summer that NeO's signing of Turner and Myers comes back to really bite the team in the butt. This summer the Blazers need to trade Myers and / OR Turner at all costs and even if that means giving away a 1st round pick to do it. I am not sure they can get anyone of those 3 back but Hood is the easiest of the 3 cause i think he at best is a 3 to 5 million a year player while Kanter is 8m plus MIN and Curry i believe he will be 6 to 9 million a year player. I think this is why Nurk's injury hurt the most cause i think this season / post season was the Blazers best chance for a run cause i believe next year this team unless NeO can pull a rabbit out of thin air this team will be a worse team then this year and i hate to say it but might even miss the playoffs next year.
I don't know how bad it is since Hood and Kanter came over, but the fact that those guys haven't been Blazers for even half a season might have something to do with it. The fact that Collins is in his second year as a pro and that Jake really is in his first year in the rotation might have something to do with it, too. It's not like the bench is getting crushed with regularity. It's more a matter of it being wildly up or down.
This was also said at the end of last season about this season. And last season was the season it bit us in the ass. NO fucked up in 2016. Nobody denies it, but since then he has been very crafty at trying to clean it up and improve this team. I believe he will continue to be crafty and figure something out to continue to improve this team into next season.
Orion when i said it will come to bite the team i mean in terms of handcuffing the team re-signing it's own players cause at this point Aminu is the only player they can get back IF they want him. The others if another team throw money at them the Blazers can do NOTHING about it.
Based on what he said in this article, Hood is the only one who I could see taking a huge discount to stay here. It sounds like he was on the verge of leaving basketball. If he can actually enjoy playing again, I don't think he would want to leave Portland for any amount of money.
Actually I believe Layman is the only one we can get back because he is restricted AMinu will be a UFA. We cant get him back unless he wants to be here, just like Curry, Hood and Kanter. Again, the same thing was said about Davis and Napier last year. We will be fine.
I would put hood as priority over curry simply because of who we have on the roster already. Y’all are forgetting about Anfernee! That kid is going to be 3x the player curry is now. I’m excited to see him get 25 mins a game next year as our third small guard. He is going to absolutely thrive running the bench mob and shooting from everywhere. Trent is no slouch either. If we lose both hood and curry cause of money I’m only slightly more worried about Trent stepping in for hood.
The difference is the absolute max we can give Curry is $5.3 million. Crabbe would have had major trade value coming off his first season of his new contract if it was that low. If you think we can get a +40% 3 point shooter for cheaper than $5.3 million then fine, I'm down with that. Paying any of the 3 guys the Tax-MLE is NOT an overpay though, it's actually quite the opposite.
Well, there were 30 players that shot 40% or better this season. I don't care to check their salaries, and for me it's not about getting a 40%+ shooter for less than $5.3M - it's about maximizing the talent:dollar ratio. In a vacuum that would be a decent contract for Curry - probably perfect actually. But since that's ALL the money we can spend I think it would be better to spend it on, say, Kanter if it's an option, or even Rod.
To dismiss salary makes this moot though doesnt it? I mean its the major factor in what we are able to do/sign. Without taking that into account, why dont we just go after steph curry then?
You obviously missed my point. "But since that's ALL the money we can spend I think it would be better to spend it on, say, Kanter if it's an option, or even Rod." I posted that list in case anybody wanted to weigh in on whether any of them might fit into our salary picture. Like I said, I'm not sure about their salaries, but some of those names seem like they might be MLE-level (or even vet min?) players?
