<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AznxBaller:</div><div class="quote_post">There's plenty of shooting guards that can't shoot- Willie Green, Iguodala (although has improved), or Darius Miles are prime examples. Honestly, there aren't too much shooting guards in terms of good shooting out on the market. I could only find a few and even then, they were a bit iffy. Also, in his season with the Hawks, Sura I do believe was playing shooting guard, he still managed a couple triple doubles in his last few nights. I'm not too sure about this so take it for what its worth.</div> True, but that's when Sura was healthy, and he pretty much had the green light every time he got the ball(who doesn't playing on the lousy Hawks). Now it's a little different. Willie Green, Darius Miles, Iguodala all don't shoot well, but they make up for it with speed, quickness and serious HOPS. Moving Sura to shooting guard would match him up with Kobe, Iverson, Mobley, Richardson, Allen, Pierce, Wade, and that's not very good match up for us. I'd much rather he stay at the point where he has a size advantage.

For an example, if Luther Head was playing point guard while Sura was playing shooting guard and they were facing Miami- they can switch who to guard on defense. Sura would potentially be guarding Keyon Dooling or whoever while Luther Head, who is supposedly a phenomenal defender, guarding Dwyane Wade.

The average shooting guard is 6'7, Head is 6'3. I see Head guarding the likes of Terry, Wade, and maybe Bibby.
i dont think that sura is a bad three point shooter, because sura drives and tries to penetrate more then he does chucking up threes, agreed wesley can be hot and wesley can be cold, but wesley is a good defender, you can never have too many guards because some teams do not have a very big center and they can switch over to a smaller lineup against yao, in which we would also have an advantage because of yaos size but speed would kill us because the rockets are the quickest of teams in the nba, so right now id say that im satisfied with what we have right now, we did good last year considering how many injuries and the matchup problems that we had last year, but with teh addition of some new players drafted and those that were signed, im satisfied.
I bet when all is said and done, expect no Padgett, Braggs, Baker, Wesley or Sura (one will go), and a good chance of no James on this years roster (hoping for James to stay, but he's our trade bait)...anything for a winning season, shiet I'm down for it
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2113584 This here is a nice story explaining how it's been for Jay, he's still working out and says by October he'll be ready, of course that alone isn't enough to see if he's healthy enough but at least we know (for now) that he's confident that he will.

Never actually allowing him to drop too many points on Houston so I would infer that Head would do an even better job. Besides, Pierce would probably be guarded by McGrady since they match up better and both play small forward I think. I'm not sure which Richardson you're talking about so I won't comment on that. Quentin? Jason? There's too many Richardsons. Luther Head is supposed to be a good defender, has the speed, and all the physical tools needed to shut someone down- bottom line. We can't say too much on whether he can stop the elite guards right now until he actually plays a couple games.

What we're lacking is size at the SG/SF position. Outside of Tmac, Barry is the only real SF we have and he's a little undersized for that position. We need somebody that can get on that wing and finish a fastbreak. I would trade either James, Wesley, or Bowen (who would want him), to get a bigger more traditional SG that could slide over to SF. Right now our team will be good, but we're not contenders.

The Mavericks are trying to get rid of him.

But I dought Dallas would be stupid enough to give up Finley for Wesley. A player like Finley would put us in the top 3 as far as winning a ring. I just wouldn't get my hopes up, but like the idea.

However, I did hear from this one thread in the Dallas forum, that they plan on waiving him or already waived him, I'm still confused about it- allowing them to not have to pay as much luxury tax and which would also give Finley a fresh start. Check it out here. Still, I don't really want him. He's aging- in fact, he's already pretty old so I'd doubt he'd be able to keep up with the faster shooting guards of the league. And at this point of his career, Finley's going in the decline. Finley's defense isn't great either so it would probably allow the better shooting guards of the league to explode on him. The only spot he would be filling would be as a third offensive option on the team- basically his only asset.

Even though he is a long shot, Finley would be the perfect compliment to Tmac. Despite his age, he is a valuable asset to a team looking for a back up SG/SF (which we are). His talent is declining, but he's still very effective (hate to bring it up, but he killed us in the playoffs ).His role would be simple, give us some shooting, and speed off the bench. If we could nab Finley, it would a great day in Houston.

Since Finley needs the ball to score and so does T-Mac and not to mention that'd mean less shots for our big man Yao as well. I think if Finley came here knowing that he'd be about 3rd option and accepted that then he'd help us out quite a bit, but I doubt we can get him anyway...
The only way that we could get Finley is when the Mavs waived him although i'ts a long shot since we only have only $1.7M Salary cap exception to sign free agents from other team. Trading for Finley would only do more damage to the Rockets salary cap. He's still has $51M left on his contract that will expire after the 08-07 season while Wesley and Baker has expiring contract. Moochie has team option next year and Ward is available for a buyout also next year. We still haven't signed Yao to an extension yet. It will take a miracle for Finley to sign a $1.7M salary with the Rockets. He'll still be receiving $17M a year from the Mavs for the next 3 season anyway. We'll only hope he won't look for more money from other teams considering he's guaranteed $51M for the next 3 years when the Mavs waive him.
