Davis blast gives Houston win in BBVA Compass Stadium opener

HOUSTON – Brad Davis ushered in a new era for the Houston Dynamo in style on a sparkling Texas afternoon Saturday, scorching the game-winning goal from 35 yards out to fuel the Dynamo’s 1-0 over D.C. United in the first-ever game at BBVA Compass Stadium.

The decisive moment couldn’t have played out any better for the sellout crowd of 22,304 fans or Davis, one of a number of past and present Dynamo players memorialized on pillars throughout the newest soccer-specific stadium in MLS. His left-footed shot from the center of the field curled off the outstretched hand of D.C. goalkeeper Bill Hamid and into the net, sending the sea of orange-clad fans into ecstasy.

Davis, who like fellow Dynamo stars Brian Ching, Geoff Cameron and Bobby Boswell had never played a home game in a soccer-specific stadium until Saturday, didn’t hesitate with his celebration. He sprinted to the south stands, sprung over the end boards and was gone, swallowed up by a swooning group of team supporters who had waited since 2006 to call a new stadium their own.

Dynamo sign Honduran international Garcia as newest DP
    [IMG]

HOUSTON – After more than a year of negotiations, the Houston Dynamo announced on Thursday that they have finalized a transfer that will make Honduran international Oscar Boniek García the second Designated Player in club history.

Financial details of the deal were not disclosed as per league policy, but this much is clear: The 27-year-old former Olimpia midfielder impressed the Dynamo brass when they caught an up-close glimpse of him last May.

That’s when García – who has 67 caps for Los Catrachos – took the field at Robertson Stadium for a match between Honduras and El Salvador, and the Dynamo have been chasing him ever since.

Dynamo in negotiations to bring back Ricardo Clark
    [IMG]

HOUSTON -- The Dynamo are working to finalize an agreement to bring former MLS All-Star and US international Ricardo Clark back to Houston.

Dynamo president Chris Canetti confirmed to MLSsoccer.com on Saturday that the club is actively negotiating with the World Cup veteran and is hoping to put the final touches on bringing the fan favorite back into the fold.

“I can confirm that the Dynamo are interested in finding a way to sign Rico and are in the process of finding a way to do so,” Canetti told MLSsoccer.com. “Ongoing negotiations are occurring in an effort to bring him here.”

With the transfer window closed for making moves for players under contract, the Dynamo are focusing their efforts on Clark, who was released by Eintracht Frankfurt last week after finishing the season on loan at Stabaek in Norway

Dynamo finalize deal to bring back former hero Clark
    [IMG]

HOUSTON – The Dynamo have finalized a deal to bring former club and country standout Ricardo Clark back to Houston.

After agreeing to the terms of a deal with Clark last Friday, the Dynamo received the final paperwork and an international transfer certificate on Thursday to bring the World Cup veteran back from German Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt through the end of the 2014 season.

“We have been able to conclude a deal to bring Ricardo Clark back to Houston and making him a member of the Dynamo once again,” Dynamo president Chris Canetti told MLSsoccer.com. “We have been tracking his career in recent months and wondering if the opportunity would come up to reacquire him and now that it has, we were able to find a suitable agreement for all parties to bring him back.”

While the deal is finalized, Houston will have to wait to officially add Clark to the roster until outgoing center back Geoff Cameron’s move to English Premier League side Stoke City is completed. Cameron’s personal contract and a transfer agreement with his new club have been signed, but the deal is still pending him winning an appeal for a work permit, scheduled for August 8.

Until then, Clark will not be able to appear for the Dynamo in an MLS match, but can train with the club.

Late surge sends Dynamo past Union, into playoffs

HOUSTON – The Houston Dynamo are in the MLS Cup playoffs.

Even at a goal apiece 70 minutes in, the Dynamo used some late game magic from Boniek García and a Brad Davis penalty kick to clinch a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union. The late strikes came just minutes before D.C. United’s Lewis Neal scored a stoppage time winner to down the Columbus Crew 3-2 and book playoff passage for Houston for the sixth time in seven years.

With the three points, Houston pulled to within one point of the New York Red Bulls for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Dynamo veteran Ching will return for 12th MLS season
    [IMG]

After a month of soul searching, Brian Ching has decided that he will be back in Houston Dynamo orange in 2013.

Ching told MLSsoccer.com on Tuesday that he's spent the time since Houston's loss in the MLS Cup earlier this month deciding if he still wanted to play the game after 11 seasons in the league.

“I needed to step away for a bit and make sure that I still love it and have a passion for it,” Ching told MLSsoccer.com by phone. “Looking back and seeing how the season went and how I held up, I still feel like I can contribute.”

    Dynamo win over Whitecaps FC

Giles Barnes and Warren Creavalle scored goals seven minutes apart in the second half for a 2-1 comeback win for the Houston Dynamo over Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday night at BBVA Compass Stadium.

With the win, the Dynamo extended their home unbeaten streak to 33 games in all competitions (including Champions League and playoffs). It is the second-longest streak in league history, one shy of Real Salt Lake's record 34-game streak from 2009-11. The Dynamo can equal RSL's record next Saturday when they host the San Jose Earthquakes.

The Dynamo earned the win with starting roles for Andrew Driver, Eric Brunner and Creavalle, who started their first regular season game this campaign in place of midfielders Brad Davis and Boniek Garcia and defender Jermaine Taylor. The three were unavailable due to international duty for this week's World Cup qualifiers.

Vancouver striker Darren Mattocks opened the scoring in the 36th minute. The Jamaican received a pass from Erik Hurtado, turned and cracked a shot from 25 yards into the upper corner for a 1-0 'Caps lead.

The Dynamo had several scoring chances in the first half, including opportunities for Ricardo Clark, Giles Barnes and a pair for Creavalle, but could not find the net.

Houston's fortunes changed in the 55th minute when Barnes completed a nice buildup with a great goal. Ricardo Clark received a pass near the corner of the penalty area and chipped a pinpoint pass to Barnes, who rose between two defenders to drive a strong header into the side of the net for an equalizing goal.

It was Barnes' first regular season goal after joining the Dynamo last August.

It was Clark's tenth career assist in all competitions with the Dynamo to reach tenth on the franchise list.

The Dynamo secured the game-winning goal seven minutes later. Adam Moffat drove a corner kick to the middle of the six-yard box and Will Bruin settled the ball before in rolled near Creavalle, who slid to reach the ball and slot it home from four yards.

It was Creavalle's first professional goal in his sixth career regular season start.

Moments before Barnes' equalizing goal, Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall kept Houston within a goal with a point-blank save on Mattocks.

Hall later benefited from two fortunate bounces off his goal frame in the 82nd minute. Vancouver substitute Camilo Sanvezzo curled a beautiful free kick 30 yards from goal that struck the inside of both posts and bounced away from goal for the closest of misses.

It was Clark's 150th career game in all competitions with the Dynamo.

Defender Corey Ashe started and played 90 minutes to surpass 10,000 regular season minutes in his career.

Defender Bobby Boswell captained the Dynamo in his 225th career regular season start.

Hall earned the win in his 75th career regular season start.

The Dynamo will face the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. CT and tickets are available at HoustonDynamo.com.

Earthquakes Fall 2-0 on Road against Houston Dynamo

The San Jose Earthquakes fell 2-0 against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday at BBVA Compass Stadium. The result extended Houston's home-unbeaten streak to 34 games in all competitions, tying an MLS record.

Despite the loss, two Earthquakes players hit career milestones. MLS original Ramiro Corrales made his 300th career appearance while forward Chris Wondolowski made his 100th career start with the club.

The Dynamo changed the game early thanks to a tap-in finish from Will Bruin. Honduran winger Boniek Garcia created the chance with a cross that picked the second-year forward out at the top of the 6-yard box, allowing for an easy finish in front of the frame in the 17th minute.

Giles Barnes capped the scoring in the 42nd minute. The British striker and midfielder Brad Davis were perfectly in synch for the goal, Davis lofting a cross into the box that found Barnes in stride for the header.

Of note for San Jose, forward Alan Gordon made his first appearance of 2013, subbing on for Shea Salinas in the 68th minute. The target man was second on the team with 13 goals and seven assists in 2012. He missed the Earthquakes' first four games while continuing to rehab from offseason surgery on his left foot.

San Jose returns to action on Saturday, April 6 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Buck Shaw Stadium. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. PT on Comcast SportsNet California, 1590 KLIV and 1370 KZSF.

Dynamo Sets Home Win Record with 2-1 Decision over Chicago

The Houston Dynamo secured a 2-1 win over the Chicago Fire on Sunday afternoon at BBVA Compass Stadium to set a Major League Soccer record for a home unbeaten streak in all competitions at 35 games. The Dynamo surpassed Real Salt Lake's previous league record (34 games) for home unbeaten streak in all competitions (includes regular season, playoffs and CONCACAF Champions League) and have not lost a competitive home game since June 18, 2011.

The Dynamo (4-2-0; 12 points) improved to 4-0 in home games this season and jumped to second place in the Eastern Conference, one point behind the Montreal Impact.

The 35-game home unbeaten streak in all competitions includes 29 regular season games, three playoff games, and three CONCACAF Champions League games.

In setting a new MLS record for home unbeaten streak in all competitions, Houston also tied Real Salt Lake's mark of 29 consecutive regular season home games without defeat, set during the same streak from 2009-11. The Dynamo can set a new league record for a regular season home streak on April 28 against the Colorado Rapids.

Dynamo forward Will Bruin opened the scoring in the 26th minute. Bruin won possession of a loose ball and played a short pass to Giles Barnes, who found Brad Davis on the left flank. Davis juked his defender before lofting a pinpoint cross in front of goal, where Bruin drove a header into the net from five yards for his second goal of the season.

It was Bruin's 23rd goal in all competitions with the Dynamo to pass Stuart Holden for fourth on the franchise scoring list.

The Fire leveled the scored just three minutes later. Off a Chicago throw in, the ball fell to Daniel Paladini, who played a short pass to Chris Rolfe, and he hammered home the equalizing goal from 12 yards.

Houston's game-winning goal arrived in the 81st minute. On a free kick 40 yards from goal, Davis played a short pass to Kofi Sarkodie, who held the ball before returning it to Davis, who drove a cross to the middle of the Chicago penalty area. Bobby Boswell attempted to head the cross, but the ball skimmed over his head and bounced into the side of the net for a 2-1 Dynamo win.

It was Davis' second goal of the season (third including Champions League) after the midfielder set a career-high with eight goals last season.

It was the team-leading third assist of the season for Sarkodie.

Chicago nearly equalized again just two minutes later. A corner kick from Joel Lindpere was met with a strong header from Jeff Larentowicz that hit the crossbar and bounced away from goal.

It was Bobby Boswell's 150th regular season start with the Dynamo. He joins Davis as only the second player in Dynamo history to make 150 regular season starts in orange.

The Dynamo next travel to BMO Field to face Toronto FC (1-2-3) on Saturday at 3 p.m. CT. Houston returns to BBVA Compass Stadium on April 28 for another Sunday afternoon (4 p.m. CT) kickoff.

Next Match: Saturday, April 20, 3 p.m. CT, Toronto FC vs. Houston Dynamo, BMO Field, Toronto, ON

Next Home Match: Sunday, April 28, 4 p.m. CT, Houston Dynamo vs. Colorado Rapids, BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston, TX

Stoppage Time Goal Earns Dynamo a Tie

Warren Creavalle headed an equalizing goal into the roof of the net four minutes into second half stoppage time to deliver the Houston Dynamo a dramatic 1-1 draw with Toronto FC on Saturday afternoon at BMO Field in Toronto.

Trailing 1-0 in stoppage time, Will Bruin helped earn a Houston corner kick. Andrew Driver sent the corner kick near the penalty spot, where Ricardo Clark rose above the Toronto FC defense to head the ball at goal. Creavalle, with his back to goal three yards in front of the goal line, flicked Clark's header into the net for the equalizer.

It was Creavalle's second goal of the season after he scored the game-winner against Vancouver on March 23.

It was Ricardo Clark's 11th career assist with the Dynamo in all competitions. Clark is now tied for ninth on the franchise list with Craig Waibel.

It was also Houston's sixth goal this season - out of 11 overall goals - after the 75th minute in a game. The Dynamo set a franchise record with 17 goals after the 75th minute in 2012.

The equalizing goal rescued a road point after the Dynamo lost midfielders Adam Moffat (hamstring) and Brad Davis (groin) to injury before the start of the second half. Additionally, the goal arrived with the Dynamo playing with ten men after Jermaine Taylor was issued a straight red card for a challenge in the 62nd minute.

Toronto FC opened the scoring in the 58th minute. Midfielder Jeremy Hall collected a loose ball 25 yards from goal, turned, and then fired a low shot into the side of the net for his first goal of the season.

Four minutes later, a through ball behind the Dynamo defense resulted in a foot race between Taylor and Toronto forward Robert Earnshaw. Referee Drew Fischer called a foul on Taylor after Earnshaw went to the ground and issued Taylor a straight red card.

With the Dynamo down to ten players, goalkeeper Tally Hall kept Houston within a goal with a wonderful save on Justin Braun in the 69th minute. Braun's diving header from eight yards was stopped with a quick reaction save from Hall, who reached back and to his right to push the header away with one hand.

The draw in Toronto secures a road point for the Dynamo to begin a stretch with six of nine games on the road.

The Dynamo (4-2-1; 13 points) are now tied for second place in the Eastern Conference with the Montreal Impact (4-1-1; 13 points). Conference leader Sporting Kansas City (4-1-2; 14 points) plays at the LA Galaxy on Saturday night.

The goal highlights a productive start to the season for Creavalle, who now has two goals and an assist in 188 minutes this season.

The Dynamo return home to face the Colorado Rapids next Sunday (April 28) at 4 p.m. CT at BBVA Compass Stadium. Houston carries an MLS record 35-game home unbeaten streak in all competitions into the game. Houston is also tied with Real Salt Lake's MLS record 29 game regular season home unbeaten streak and can set another league record with a win or a draw against Colorado.

Barnes Leads Dynamo to 1-1 Tie, MLS Record

The Houston Dynamo set a Major League Soccer record with their 30th consecutive regular season home game unbeaten following Sunday's 1-1 draw against the Colorado Rapids at BBVA Compass Stadium. The match eclipsed Real Salt Lake's previous record of 29 regular season home games unbeaten and extended their streak to 36 straight home games undefeated in all competitions.

Giles Barnes scored his team-leading third goal of the season, a howling strike into the upper corner for an equalizing goal in the 66th minute.

Will Bruin nearly produced a winning goal in second half stoppage time, but his diving header crashed off the crossbar.

The Rapids seized a 1-0 lead in the closing moments of the first half. Rookie midfielder Dillon Powers curled a corner kick to the back part of the six-yard box and Drew Moor headed home from six yards for a halftime lead.

Both teams had chances in the first half, including a chance for Brad Davis in the 31st minute. Bruin crossed a ball to the penalty spot and Davis' right-foot volley was collected by Colorado goalkeeper Clint Irwin.

Seven minutes later Houston defender Kofi Sarkodie made a great play to prevent a goal, racing in front of goal for an acrobatic headed clearance on Danny Mwanga's shot from 12 yards.

Seven minutes after halftime Colorado midfielder Jamie Smith nearly doubled the advantage, firing a shot from 25 yards the crashed off the far post for a near goal.

Houston nearly equalized in the 56th minute. Corey Ashe did well to get forward on the left flank before feeding Barnes, who drove toward the end line and crossed a pinpoint pass to Davis, who snapped a header that required a brilliant one-hand save from Irwin.

Houston's equalizer finally arrived in the 66th minute. Bruin battled for a header in midfield and the loose ball was collected by Barnes. The forward drove to the edge of the box before cracking a wonderful strike into the upper corner of the net for a tying goal.

Bruin's opportunity to win the game came four minutes into stoppage time- the same minute of Warren Creavalle's equalizer last Saturday in Toronto. Ashe drove an excellent ball from the left flank to the middle of the six-yard box and Bruin's diving header was struck well but hit the crossbar for a near winner.

A minute later, Davis received a red card for a challenge on Nathan Sturgis 30 yards from goal. Davis had received a yellow card four minutes earlier and will miss Houston's next game at the LA Galaxy next Sunday.

With the draw, the Dynamo (4-2-2; 14 points) are tied for second place in the Eastern Conference with the New York Red Bulls (4-4-2; 14 points) and Sporting Kansas City (4-3-2; 14 points). Montreal (5-1-1) leads the conference with 16 points.

It was an afternoon of milestones for the Dynamo, with four players reaching significant marks.

It was Bobby Boswell's 200th game in all competitions with the Dynamo. He is the fourth player in club history to reach 200 appearances, joining Brad Davis, Corey Ashe, and Brian Ching.

It was Ricardo Clark's 200th career MLS regular season appearance. It was also Clark's 150th start for Houston in all competitions to become the sixth player in club history to make 150 starts in orange (Davis, Boswell, Pat Onstad, Brian Mullan and Ching).

It was Ching's 225th MLS regular season appearance in his 12-year career.

It was Davis' 225th start with the Dynamo in all competitions. He is the franchise leader.

The Dynamo have not lost a competitive home game since June 18, 2011. The are also unbeaten in 22 regular season games (15-0-7) since opening BBVA Compass Stadium last May.

Houston begins a two-game, cross-country road trip next Sunday in Los Angeles against the Galaxy in a rematch of the 2012 and 2011 MLS Cup finals. The trip continues on Wednesday, May 8 at D.C. United before the Dynamo return home to host Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, May 12 in a rematch of postseason series in 2012 and 2011.

Next Match: Sunday, May 5, 10 p.m. CT, LA Galaxy vs. Houston Dynamo, The Home Depot Center, Carson, CA

Next Home Match: Sunday, May 12, 7 p.m. CT, Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas City, BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston, TX
