    Bruin, Dynamo Overwhelm D.C. 4-0

Will Bruin scored two goals and provided two assists to lead the Houston Dynamo to a 4-0 road win over D.C. United on Wednesday night at RFK Stadium. The win capped a perfect 2-0 road trip for Houston, which earned road wins over the LA Galaxy and D.C. United over a four day span.

The Dynamo (6-2-2; 20 points) are now tied for first place in the Eastern Conference with the New York Red Bulls (6-4-2; 20 points). Houston will host third place Sporting Kansas City (5-3-3; 17 points) on Sunday evening (7 p.m. CT) at BBVA Compass stadium.

Bruin is the first player in Dynamo history to score two goals and deliver two assists in a single league game.

Bruin continued his career torment of D.C. United, registering his third multi-goal game against the black-and-red. Bruin has now scored nine goals in nine career games against D.C. United (including playoffs), including a hat trick in 2011, a two-goal performance last April, and another two-goal outing on Wednesday night.

It was also Bruin's first two-assist game in his three-year career.

The opening goal started with Boniek Garcia settling the ball in the center circle and playing a ball toward Bruin, who used a crafty touch to pull the ball from behind into his path. He carried the ball into the box and chipped the opener over a charging Bill Hamid for a 1-0 lead.

Houston capitalized on a poor clearance from Hamid for the second goal. Bobby Boswell sent a ball in behind the United defense and Dejan Jakovic played a back pass to Hamid. The United goalkeeper's clearance was stopped by Bruin ten yards from goal, and he centered the ball to Giles Barnes, who found the side of the net for a 2-0 advantage and his fourth goal of the season.

Nine minutes after the goal, Barnes was forced to leave the game with a hamstring injury.

Brian Ching replaced Barnes and helped create Houston's third goal. Brad Davis curled a free kick to the front of the six-yard box and Ching flicked a perfect header to Bruin, who finished with a first touch half-volley for his second goal of the night.

It was Ching's 30th career assist with the Dynamo in all competitions to pass Brian Mullan for second on the franchise list.

Houston's final goal arrived in the 88th minute. Andrew Driver intercepted a clearance at midfield and immediately drove forward before slipping a pass to Bruin on the left flank. Bruin carried the ball toward the corner of the six-yard box before cutting a pass back in the path of Driver, who finished from eight yards for the final tally.

It was Driver's third goal of the season and second straight game with a goal after he secured the game-winner on Sunday against the Galaxy.

The Dynamo, playing with only two days of rest after defeating the Galaxy on Sunday night, earned their third consecutive result on the road, following a 1-1 draw at Toronto on April 20 with the pair of victories this week.

The win continued Houston's best ten-game start (20 points) to a season in club history.

Bruin and Barnes are not tied for the team lead in goals with four each.

It was Corey Ashe's 150th start with the Dynamo in all competitions. He is the seventh Dynamo player in club history to make 150 starts, joining Davis, Bobby Boswell, Pat Onstad, Mullan, Ching, and Ricardo Clark.

Bruin now has 25 career goals in all competitions.

Ching also surpassed Mullan to reach fourth place on the club's all-time minutes list (14,740 in all competitions).

It was Boniek Garcia's eighth regular season assist with Dynamo. He passed Eddie Robinson and Mike Chalaba and is tied for tenth on the franchise list with Dominic Oduro.

The Dynamo return home to host Sporting Kansas City on Sunday night in a rematch of postseason series in 2012 and 2011.

Next Match: Sunday, May 12, 7 p.m. CT, Houston Dynamo vs. Sporting Kansas City, BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston, TX

New England wins 2-0 over Houston

The New England Revolution scored two second half goals for a 2-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night at BBVA Compass Stadium. Diego ***undez delivered a 1-0 lead for the Revolution before an own goal completed the scoring for New England.

The Dynamo (6-3-2; 20 points) remain tied for second place in the Eastern Conference with Sporting Kansas City (6-4-2) and the Montreal Impact (6-2-2) and a point behind the New York Red Bulls (6-4-3; 21 points), who host the LA Galaxy on Sunday.

The Dynamo have lost two consecutive home games for only the third time in franchise history. Houston lost two straight at home in 2007 and three consecutive home games in 2010.

Both clubs were reduced to ten players in the 40th minute. During a New England corner kick, Dynamo defender Bobby Boswell and Revolution forward Dimitry Imbongo each went to the ground after colliding in the box. Both players were issued a red car and ejected from the game.

Earlier in the half, Houston defender Jermaine Taylor left the game in the tenth minute with a left shoulder injury.

The Revolution took the lead six minutes after halftime. ***undez received the ball on the right flank and drove toward the penalty area before passing to Clyde Simms, who laid the ball back in ***undez' path. The 18-year-old took a touch into the box and found the net for his third goal of the season and a 1-0 lead.

New England doubled its lead in the 84th minute. Chris Tierney received a pass on the left side of the penalty area and forced a sliding save from Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall. The rebound bounced near New England forward Juan Agudelo and Ricardo Clark, and Agudelo's shot skipped off Clark and into the net for an own goal and 2-0 Revolution advantage.

Houston had several quality chances to score and outshot the Revolution 20-10 on the night.

Houston's chances included a cross from Brad Davis that Giles Barnes steered wide of goal in the 23rd minute. In the 61st minute, Corey Ashe crossed for Will Bruin, but his header stayed over the cross bar.

A minute later, Andrew Driver sent a cross through the box, but Ashe's volley from the back of the box sailed high. In the 83rd minute, Brian Ching chested a lay off for Bruin, but his shot missed the target.

Bruin had two more late chances, but neither found the net as the third-year striker finished with a team-high six shots.

Davis reached two major milestones on the night. It was the Dynamo captain's 250th appearance for Houston in all competitions. It was also Davis' 200th career regular season game with the Dynamo. He is the franchise leader in both categories.

It was Taylor's 50th regular season appearance with the Dynamo.

It was Boniek Garcia's 25th regular season game with the Dynamo. The Honduran has played the full 90 minutes in all 31 career MLS appearances, including playoffs.

The Dynamo will begin a stretch of three consecutive road games on Sunday, May 26 at Sporting Kansas City. Houston will also visit the Columbus Crew (June 1) and Montreal Impact (June 19) before returning home on June 22 to host Toronto FC.

The Dynamo Reserves will host the Charleston Battery (USL Pro) in an MLS Reserve League match on Sunday at 10 a.m. at BBVA Compass Stadium. Admission is free.

Houston Dynamo Earn Draw at Kansas City

The Houston Dynamo secured a 1-1 draw with Sporting Kansas City on Sunday afternoon at Sporting Park in Kansas City. Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis and Sporting Kansas City forward Kei Kamara exchanged goals as the Eastern Conference rivals met for the second time in two weeks.

The Dynamo (6-4-3; 21 points) remain in fourth place in the crowded Eastern Conference standings, a point behind Sporting Kansas City (6-4-4; 22 points), two points back of the Montreal Impact (7-2-2; 23 points) and four points adrift of the New York Red Bulls (7-4-4; 25 points).

The Dynamo are undefeated in four consecutive road games (2-0-2), beginning with a 1-1 draw at Toronto FC on April 20. It is Houston's longest road unbeaten in a single season since May 3 to June 13, 2009, when the club went 3-0-1 over four road games.

Houston seized the lead in first half stoppage time. Ricardo Clark quickly drove a free kick from midfield toward the corner of the penalty area. Giles Barnes flicked a header to Will Bruin, who secured the ball, turned and played a short pass across the edge of the box. Davis took one touch before firing past Jimmy Nielsen for a 1-0 lead.

It was Davis' third goal of the season and his sixth career goal against Kansas City.

It was Bruin's fourth assist of the season and his tenth career assist in all competitions. He passed Boniek Garcia and Dominic Oduro for 11th on the franchise assist chart.

Kamara entered as a substitute in the 52nd minute and produced the equalizing goal 16 minutes later. Claudio Bieler received a pass near the edge of the penalty area and squared the ball to Kamara, who used two touches before firing a hard shot into the bottom corner for the tying goal and his first goal of the season.

It was the 46th career regular season goal for both Davis and Kamara.

Each club had opportunities to score throughout the afternoon. Bruin headed a free kick from Davis just passed the far post in the seventh minute. Sporting KC's Graham Zusi headed a long throw in toward the near post, but Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall used a quick reaction to push it away.

Houston was temporarily awarded a penalty kick in the 39th minute after Oriol Rosell made a challenge on Davis in the box. However, referee Drew Fischer discussed the play with assistant referee Kevin Duliba and overturned the call.

Later, Kamara headed a cross from Zusi toward the top of the goal, but Hall produced a vital save, reaching back to push the strong header over the cross bar.

After Will Bruin came close to scoring on a counter attack for the Dynamo, another opportunity fell to rookie substitute Jason Johnson in second half stoppage time. Boniek Garcia settled a clearance near the center circle and played a perfect through ball for Johnson, who raced in behind the Kansas City defense and into the penalty area. Johnson's shot from 12 yards was blocked by midfielder Paulo Nagamura, who made a saving tackle to prevent the shot.

The Dynamo will host FC Tucson of the Premier Development League on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at BBVA Compass Stadium in the third round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. Tickets start at $10 and are available at www.HoustonDynamo.com or by calling 713-276-GOAL.

After Wednesday's U.S. Open Cup match, the Dynamo continue a stretch of three consecutive road games in MLS play when they visit the Columbus Crew on Saturday, June 1.

    Dynamo play to a draw

The Houston Dynamo extended their road unbeaten streak to five games with a 1-1 draw with the Columbus Crew on Saturday night at Crew Stadium. Dynamo midfielder Warren Creavalle scored the opening goal in the first half before Columbus forward Federico HiguaÃ-n tied the game from the penalty spot midway through the second half.

The Dynamo (6-4-4; 22 points) are tied for third place in the Eastern Conference standings with Sporting Kansas City (6-5-4; 22 points). Houston is four points behind the first place Montreal Impact (8-2-2; 26 points) and three points adrift of the New York Red Bulls (7-5-4; 25 points).

The Dynamo are unbeaten in five consecutive road games (2-0-3) for their longest road undefeated streak since 2007. The franchise record for road unbeaten streak is seven games, set in 2006. The current unbeaten run comes in a crowded road stretch, with the five road games among eight overall games.

For the second straight game, Houston seized the lead in the first half. Kofi Sarkodie played a simple give-and-go with forward Jason Johnson on the right flank and raced past his defender. Sarkodie drove into the penalty area and a sent a pinpoint cross to Creavalle, who used one touch to guide his shot into the side of the net from 12 yards for a cool finish and 1-0 lead.

It was Creavalle's third goal of the season. The second-year midfielder has generated three goals and an assist in only 310 minutes this season (two starts).

It was Sarkodie's fourth assist of the season. The right back is tied with several players - including teammate Will Bruin - for the second most assists in MLS. Sarkodie's four assists are the most in the league for a defender.

Columbus tied the game in the 69th minute from the penalty spot. Referee Allen Chapman called a penalty after Andrew Driver made contact with Columbus defender Chad Barson. HiguaÃ-n drove his penalty kick into the net for the equalizing goal.

Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall matched a season-high with five saves to ensure the road draw. Several saves were outstanding, including a double save near the end of the first half. Hall blocked Higuan's low, bouncing effort before scrambling to stop Jairo Arrieta's attempt to score the rebound from close range.

It was a night of debuts for the Dynamo. Johnson, a rookie, made his first MLS start while rookie defender Anthony Arena made his MLS debut, entering as a substitute for Eric Brunner in the 20th minute.

Defender Corey Ashe started and played 90 minutes to reach 11,015 career regular season minutes. He passed Brian Mullan (11,003) for fifth on the franchise minutes list.

Hall also played 90 minutes to reach 7,716 career regular season minutes. He passed Eddie Robinson (7,653) for 11th on the club's all-time minutes list.

Defender Mike Chabala entered as a substitute for his 75th career regular season game.

Houston's five-game road unbeaten streak began with a 1-1 draw at Toronto FC on April 20. The Dynamo will complete a stretch of six road games out of nine on June 19 in Montreal.

After Sunday's Reserve League game against the Crew Reserves, the Dynamo will face FC Dallas on Wednesday, June 12 in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at FC Dallas Stadium. The Dynamo resume MLS play on June 19 in Montreal.

Dynamo doubles up on New England

Adam Moffat scored two second half goals, included a stunning left-footed volley, and the Dynamo held off a late charge to secure a 2-1 road win over the New England Revolution on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. It was the first two-goal game of Moffat's MLS career and the first two goals he has scored this season.

Houston (8-6-5; 29 points) remains in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings, a point back of Philadelphia (8-6-6), two points behind the New York Red Bulls (9-7-4) and Montreal Impact (9-5-4) and four points removed from conference leading Sporting Kansas City (9-5-6).

After a scoreless first half, the Dynamo earned a corner kick in the 49th minute. The corner kick was headed by New England just beyond the penalty area, where Moffat was waiting. The Scottish midfielder used his first touch to strike a left-footed volley from 25 yards that sailed into the top of the net for a sensational goal.

It was the first two-goal game for a Dynamo player since Will Bruin's two-goal, two-assist performance at D.C. United on May 8.

The Revolution equalized six minutes after Moffat's opening goal. Diego ***undez intercepted a Houston clearance on the right flank and carried the ball toward the end line before driving a low cross through the six-yard box. Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall pushed the cross away, but it fell to Saer Sene, who slotted the ball into the net from six yards.

The game-winner arrived in the 79th minute. Ricardo Clark found Moffat with a short pass in the middle of the field. The midfielder cracked a shot from 25 yards that crashed against the post before hitting the back of Revolution goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth and rebounding into the net.

It was Clark's third assist of the season to match a career-high set in 2006 and 2007.

It was also Clark's 11th career regular season assist with Houston to tie Dwayne De Rosario for eighth on the franchise list.

Three minutes after Moffat's second goal, New England forward Dimitry Imbongo was issued a red card. Engaged in a tussle with Houston defender Eric Brunner, Imbongo appeared to swing his arm toward Brunner and his elbow struck Brunner in the face.

It was Clark's 161st career start with the Dynamo in all competitions. He is tied with Brian Ching for fifth on the franchise list.

It was Hall's 116th career game in all competitions with Dynamo. He is tied with Craig Waibel for 13th on club's all-time list.

Moffat's two-goal performance coincided with his 50th career regular season start with the Dynamo.

Houston defender Eric Brunner played 90 minutes to surpass 7,500 career regular season minutes.

The Dynamo return to BBVA Compass Stadium to host Stoke City of England on Wednesday, July 24 in the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup. Tickets are available at www.HoustonDynamo.com and by calling 713-276-GOAL

    Dynamo play to a draw

Cam Weaver and Mike Magee scored goals two minutes apart in the second half as the Houston Dynamo and Chicago Fire played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night before a sellout crowd at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Houston (8-6-6; 30 points) is tied for fifth place in the Eastern Conference with the New England Revolution (8-7-6). The Dynamo are four points back of Philadelphia (9-6-7), five points behind the New York Red Bulls (10-7-5) and Montreal Impact (10-5-5) and six points removed from conference leading Sporting Kansas City (10-6-6).

Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis entered the match in the first half for his 300th career regular season appearance. He joins former Dynamo players Dwayne De Rosario and Brian Mullan in the 300 club.

Weaver scored his first goal of the season after a quality team buildup in the 61st minute. The ball cycled wide to Corey Ashe, who drove toward the penalty area before playing a forward pass to Davis, who used an excellent first touch to create space before playing a low pass to Weaver. The Dynamo forward buried his chance from close range for a 1-0 lead.

It was Ashe's 21st career assist in all competitions with Houston. He is tied with De Rosario for fourth on the franchise list.

Chicago found the equalizer two minutes later. Patrick Nyarko won the ball in the Dynamo half and raced to the end line before driving a low cross toward the back post. Magee finished the chance for the tying goal and his co-league leading 13th goal of the season.

It was Ricardo Clark's 162nd start in all competitions with the Dynamo to pass Brian Ching for fifth on the franchise list.

Weaver entered the game as a substitute in the 81st minute and would seal the win four minutes later. Garcia sent a pass ball to Bruin, who settled the ball with a clean touch at the top of the penalty area. Houston Dynamo sign Honduran international Alexander Lopez to young Designated Player deal
    [IMG]

HOUSTON – For the third year in a row, the Houston Dynamo have dipped into the Honduran pipeline.

This time, it’s for one of the country’s bright young stars, as the club announced Wednesday that it has finalized a move for midfielder Alexander Lopez from Honduran club Olimpia.

Lopez has been a target of the Dynamo for a year now. After a week of serious negotiations, the club landed a young playmaker that could make a difference in both the present and for years to come.

“I think it’s a good move overall for the team,” head coach Dominic Kinnear said. “We felt it was a good to have a young guy with experience. He’s played in a handful of games for Honduras, especially in the last Gold Cup. You have an eye for the future, but you can never predict the future so you plan for the present, and I think he can help us now.”

    Real Salt Lake blanks Houston

Alvaro Saborio scored a first half penalty goal and Real Salt Lake held off the Houston Dynamo for a 1-0 win on Saturday night at Rio Tinto Stadium.

The Dynamo (9-7-6; 33 points) remain in fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Houston is two points behind the Montreal Impact (10-7-5; 35 points), four points back of the Philadelphia Union (10-7-7; 37 points) five points adrift of the New York Red Bulls (11-8-5; 38 points) and six points removed from Sporting Kansas City (11-7-6; 39 points).

Late in the first half, Real Salt Lake was awarded a penalty kick when Dynamo midfielder Adam Moffat and RSL forward Olmes Garcia fought for the ball just inside the penalty area. Both players went to the ground and referee Jose Carlos Rivero pointed to the spot for a Real Salt Lake penalty. Saborio converted the spot kick for a 1-0 lead that stood up as the winning goal.

The loss snaps Houston's four-game unbeaten streak (3-0-1).

The Dynamo's chances included a 25-yard shot from Giles Barnes midway through the first half that was saved by Nick Rimando.

In the 66th minute, substitute Jason Johnson took a low shot from the right side, but drove it straight at Rimando.

Seven minutes later, a free kick from Brad Davis was met by Jermaine Taylor, but his header fell to Rimando.

Later, a corner kick fell to Moffat at the top of the penalty area, but he couldn't keep his shot on target.

Minutes later, a nice Dynamo buildup led to a chance for Davis at the top of the box, but his low shot hit a Real Salt Lake defender and went out for a corner kick.

In the 88th minute, Johnson created space on the end line and drove a low cross through the area Bruin flicked it toward the back post, where Cam Weaver and Kofi Sarkodie were waiting, but RSL defender Chris Wingert made the important clearance.

In stoppage time, a Dynamo break led to a chance for Ricardo Clark, but his half-volley sailed wide of the far post.

Brad Davis started the game and played 90 minutes to become the first player in Dynamo history to surpass 20,000 career minutes (20,041) in all competitions with Houston.

Corey Ashe also played 90 minutes to pass Brian Mullan for fifth on the franchise minutes list in all competitions (14,767).

    Houston victorious over Seattle

Giles Barnes scored two goals, including a stunning blast from 30 yards, and Will Bruin added a third as the Houston Dynamo secured a 3-1 win over Seattle Sounders FC before a sellout crowd at BBVA Compass Stadium on Saturday night.

The Dynamo (10-7-6; 36 points) remain in fifth place in the Eastern Conference but have pulled closer to their rivals. Houston is two points back of the Montreal Impact (11-7-5; 38 points and Philadelphia Union (10-7-8; 38 points) and three points behind the New York Red Bulls (11-8-6; 39 points) and Sporting Kansas City (11-7-6; 39 points).

It was Dynamo head coach Dominic Kinnear's 124th career win as an MLS head coach. The ten-year coaching veteran is now tied with Bob Bradley for third on the league's all-time wins list. Kinnear only trails Sigi Schmid (182 wins) and Bruce Arena (155 wins).

Houston travels to Trinidad to face W Connection on Tuesday in the opening game of its CONCACAF Champions League campaign. Next Saturday, it will visit Montreal for a key meeting between teams two points apart in the Eastern Conference Standings.

After not scoring in MLS play since May 8, Barnes scored twice in the first half for his first two-goal game with the Dynamo.

Bruin received a pass 30 yards from goal and spun past his marker before racing toward the end line. He played it back to Barnes, who took two touches before firing a shot into the far corner for a 1-0 lead.

It was Bruin's co-team leading sixth assist of the season. It was also his 11th career regular season assist to tie Ricardo Clark and Dwayne De Rosario for eighth on the franchise list.

Four minutes later, Barnes received a short pass from Brad Davis in the middle of the field. He turned and fired a missile from 30 yards into the upper corner for a sensational goal and 2-0 advantage. It was Barnes's sixth goal of the season.

Midway through the second half, the Sounders cut the deficit in half. Marc Burch delivered a set piece from near the corner flag and Shalrie Joseph rose above the crowd to head the cross into the net for his first goal of the season.

The Dynamo responded with the final goal of the night nine minutes later on a well-deserved team goal. A Houston throw in led to Kofi Sarkodie in space near the right corner flag. He delivered an excellent cross in the path of substitute Warren Creavalle, who drove a firm header off the crossbar from 12 yards. The rebound fell between Davis and Brad Evans, and Davis won the header, directing it to Bruin, who used one touch to drive his shot past Seattle goalkeeper Michael Gspurning for a 3-1 win.

It was Bruin's sixth goal of the season. He and Barnes are tied for the team lead.

It was also Bruin's 23rd career regular season goal. With his next, he'll tie De Rosario for third on the club list.

It was also the second time in three games that Bruin had a goal and assist in a game.

Bruin's goal was the second assist of the night for Davis, who is tied for the team lead with Bruin with six assists this season. It was also Davis' first two-assist game of the season.

Davis now has 98 career regular season assists and is two shy of 100 and three behind Marco Etcheverry for sixth on the league's all-time assist list.

Houston's is now 4-1-1 in its last six games.

Goalkeeper Tally Hall earned his 50th career win in all competitions. Pat Onstad is the club leader with 67.

It was Corey Ashe's 161st career start in all competitions with the Dynamo. He is tied with Brian Ching for sixth on the franchise list. It was also Ashe's 127th career regular season start with the Dynamo to tie Brian Mullan for fourth on the club list.

It was Ricardo Clark's 170th career game in all competitions with the Dynamo. He is tied with Onstad for sixth on the franchise list. It was also his 125th career regular season start with Houston.

    Dynamo blank Union

Ricardo Clark's header goal early in the second half was the game-winner as the Houston Dynamo seized a 1-0 road win over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday night at PPL Park. The win vaults the Dynamo to fourth place in the Eastern Conference with six games remaining.

The Dynamo (11-10-7; 40 points) are alone in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, a point above the Chicago Fire (11-11-6; 39 points) and Union (10-10-9; 39 points) and three points ahead of the the New England Revolution (10-11-7; 37 points. Houston is five points behind Sporting Kansas City (13-9-6; 45 points) and Montreal Impact (13-8-6; 45 points) and eight points back of the New York Red Bulls (14-9-6; 48 points).

The Dynamo will host Chivas USA on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 p.m. CT at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Houston's scoring play was possible after Clark earned a free kick on the left flank, 30 yards from goal. Brad Davis whipped the set piece just past the penalty spot, where Clark rose to flick his header inside the right post for the vital goal and a 1-0 lead.

It was Clark's third goal of the season, matching a career-high, set in 2005 and 2003.

It was also Clark's first goal since July 6, when his headed goal was also the game-winner against the Union in a 1-0 win at BBVA Compass Stadium. The timing of both winning goals from Clark was also similar. Clark's winner on July 6 arrived in the 59th minute. Tonight's game-winner came in the 53rd minute.

It was Davis' team-leading seventh assist of the season.

It was also Davis' 99th career regular season assist. Davis is two assists shy of tying Marco Ethcheverry for sixth of Major League Soccer's all-time assist list.

The Union searched for the equalizer, beginning with a header from substitute Jack McInerney in the 68th minute that Jermaine Taylor deflected wide of danger. Three minutes later, Conor Casey - who had several chances on headers in the first half - tried another from 12 yards, but it was saved by Hall.

McInerney had another chance from the top of the box in the 73rd minute, but he fired wide.

The Dynamo defended the long throw-in from Philadelphia's Sheanon Williams throughout the night, including an important throw in the 80th minute. Bobby Boswell met the throw with a strong header, and the resulting cross was handled by goalkeeper Tally Hall.

Houston had a chance to double its lead in the 87th minute. Substitute midfielder Brian Ownby played an excellent ball over the Union back line and in front of Will Bruin, who charged to the top of the box before firing a low shot that was saved by Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath.

New Dynamo midfielder Servando Carrasco, acquired in a trade from the Seattle Sounders on Friday, entered as a substitute in the 72nd minute and made an important play in stoppage time, making a vital challenge on McInerney on the edge of the penalty area to kill the threat.

Philadelphia had one final chance in the final seconds of stoppage time. A free kick from midfield was headed by Amobi Okugo past Hall, who left his line to attempt a clearance, but Okugo's shot was headed clear by Taylor three yards in front of the goal.

An important play in the game occurred in the 30th minute on a disallowed goal for the Union. Keon Daniel struck a free kick from 40 yards, over a crowd of players and past Hall for a possible goal. But the goal was disallowed by referee Mark Kadlecik, who discussed the play with his assistant.

The Dynamo have six remaining regular season games, including four at home, beginning Saturday, Sept. 21 against Chivas USA.

    Other Milestones:

It was Ricardo Clark's 127th regular season start with the Dynamo to tie Brian Mullan for fifth on the franchise list.

Clark (14,745 minutes in all competitions with the Dynamo) also surpassed Mullan (14,705) for sixth on the club's minutes list.

It was Brad Davis' 307th career MLS games. He passed Cobi Jones and is now tied with Mike Petke for 17th on MLS' all-time games list.

It was Tally Hall's 126th game in all competitions with the Dynamo to tie Andre Hainault for 11th on the franchise list.

It was also Hall's 100th career regular season start to tie Geoff Cameron and Hainault for eighth on the club chart.

Jermaine Taylor played 90 minutes to surpass 5,000 career regular season minutes with Houston.

Next Match: Saturday, Sept. 21, 7:30 p.m. CT, Houston Dynamo vs. Chivas USA, BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston, TX.

Houston Dynamo legend Brian Ching announces plans to retire at season's end

Houston Dynamo striker Brian Ching officially announced his intentions to retire at the end of the 2013 season in a press conference at BBVA Compass Stadium on Tuesday, signaling the close of a long, fruitful career with the Dynamo (and their previous incarnation as the San Jose Earthquakes) as well as the US national team.

Citing the increasing pain and soreness from the physical grind of his 12th MLS season, and 13th pro season overall, Ching will hang up his cleats at season's end and take up a front-office position with the club he helped build since its relocation to Houston ahead of the 2006 season.

With 56 regular-season goals for the Orange, Ching is the Dynamo's all-time leading scorer and his 82 career goals place him in a tie for 11th on the all-time MLS scoring chart.

Bruin Goal Lifts Dynamo into Tie

Will Bruin scored an equalizing goal in the 76th minute to secure the Houston Dynamo a 1-1 draw with the New England Revolution on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. With the road point, the Dynamo remain in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with four games remaining.

The Dynamo (12-10-8; 44 points) are alone in fourth place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind the Montreal Impact (13-9-7; 46 points), four points back of Sporting Kansas City (14-10-6; 48 points) and seven points adrift of the New York Red Bulls (15-9-6; 51 points).

Houston is two points above the Philadelphia Union (11-10-9; 42 points), three clear of the Revolution (11-11-8; 41 points) and four points better than the Chicago Fire (11-12-7; 40 points). The top five teams in each conference qualify for the playoffs.

A familiar Dynamo foe delivered a lead to New England in the 64th minute. Saer Sene, who scored two goals against Houston last May and struck again this July, scored his fourth goal against the Dynamo for a 1-0 Revolution lead. The French forward took a short pass from Lee Nguyen on the right edge of the penalty area and used one touch to curl a left-footed shot inside the far-side netting for the opening goal.

The Dynamo answered 12 minutes later on a goal involving several players in orange. Giles Barnes settled a headed ball on the defensive side of midfield and played a short pass to Ricardo Clark, who slid a 30-yard pass forward to Will Bruin. The Dynamo striker played a short pass in front of Cam Weaver, who drove a low cross that was cleared by New England defender Andrew Farrell.

Farrell's clearance was intercepted by Boniek Garcia, who played a pinpoint pass in front of Bruin, who turned at the penalty spot and rifled a shot into the roof of the net, tying the game 1-1.

It was Bruin's eighth goal of the season. He is tied for the team lead with Barnes.

It was also Bruin's 25th career regular season goal, passing Dwayne De Rosario for third on the franchise list.

It was Garcia's 11th career regular season assist to tie De Rosario for tenth on the franchise list.

Saturday was Bobby Boswell's 250th career regular season start. It was also Boswell's 224th game in all competitions with the Dynamo to tie Brian Ching for third on franchise list.

Dynamo goalkeeper Tally Hall (9,156 career regular season minutes) surpassed Geoff Cameron (9,148) for eighth on the franchise list.

The Dynamo have four remaining regular season games - three of which are at home - beginning Friday against the Montreal Impact at 7:30 p.m. CT at BBVA Compass Stadium.

Next Home Match: Friday, Oct. 4, 7:30 p.m. CT, Houston Dynamo vs. Montreal Impact, BBVA Compass Stadium, Houston, TX

Dynamo blanked by Red Bulls 3-0 in home finale

Less than two weeks ago, the Dynamo were considered contenders for the best record in the Eastern Conference standings. Now, they need outside help to reach the playoffs and defend their Eastern Conference crown.

The New York Red Bulls needed only eight seconds for Tim Cahill to stun the BBVA Compass Stadium crowd with the quickest goal in Major League Soccer history, and it only got worse for the Dynamo.

They suffered more than just a 3-0 defeat Sunday afternoon. They also lost control of their playoff destiny heading into the final game of the season Sunday at last-place D.C. United.

    2014 Houston Dynamo Preview:
All eyes on the attack as D is under construction

How good are you, Will Bruin? This is pretty much it for Bruin, who looked like he was set to become one of the league's best center forwards after the 2012 season but is now kind of an afterthought in the MLS striker hierarchy. He made undeniable progress both in finding scoring opportunities and in creating chances last year, but if he can't hit for 12-15 goals (or more), that puts a ceiling on what the Dynamo can do.
