Supermarket operator Kroger to fill 10,000 permanent posts

U.S. supermarket operator Kroger Co said on Monday it would fill 10,000 permanent positions in its supermarket divisions.

Kroger, which had about 431,000 full- and part-time employees as of Jan. 30, 2016, also said its total active workforce grew by more than 12,000 in 2016.

The world's No. 1 retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc said last week it would create about 10,000 jobs in the United States this year, as President Donald Trump puts pressure on companies to hire more U.S. workers.
    Thanks Trump!

I would vote in the poll, but there isn't a category that adequately expresses my enthusiasm.

    Day four.
    A Federal hiring freeze.

Wow, 10,000 more ("permanent") part time, less than living wage jobs......and all thanks to Donny (not sure how you made that leap but I'm sure you'll find charts and graphs to back it up.....)

I stopped at Walmart right before Christmas and when I was walking to the front of the store I noticed the posts they have out front to protect from cars driving into the store had ads on them.

I was impressed. I'm actually surprised that they don't Nascar driver their employees with ads.

This is posts at a Walmart pic I found on google but no ads just so you know what I'm talking about.

They're union jobs. There's a Ralph's nearby and i know plenty of people who work there.

If anything, they are strict about not allowing overtime.

    You'd prefer no jobs?

Kroger doesn't manufacture anything. They sell food. Unless Trump's slogan is Make America Eat Again, these 10,000 jobs come from population growth, or from Kroger capturing business from competitive (American) groceries. Nothing to do with Trump - and possibly not even a net gain of jobs.

But if anyone is listening to those "forgotten (Rust Belt) Americans" who voted for Trump, especially because they want jobs, these are exactly the kinds of jobs they DON'T want. They want the kind of jobs they used to have and (or close to it)....jobs that allowed them to buy homes, along with a few extras like an occasional family vacation......and they refuse to understand that those types of jobs are most likely gone forever. But that didn't stop them from buying Trump's rhetoric. I'm NOT saying Kroger jobs aren't worth taking, but I AM saying that few if any are "living wage" jobs....and I don't believe for a single second that Trump had any influence in any way, shape or form. When major manufacturing jobs (using humans rather than automation) start popping up on a regular basis and pay a living wage, then maybe Donny can thump his chest.....assuming he's in office if/when that ever happens....

Didn't happen on Obama's watch, though these types of jobs were typical of the ones gained during his terms.

    Population growth means net jobs.

Why don't you want people to have jobs?

    Let them eat cake.

There needs to be all sorts of jobs.

These at Ralph's pay $16/hr in California. To bag groceries or cashier. That is a living wage. Maybe not after paying ObamaCare premiums, though.

But... see... Mr. Gou didn't commit to anything, he just promised to think about it. Those jobs are as real as the MLK Jr. bust moving scandal addressed in the first press conference.

But, by all means, go ahead and believe it was the greatest first day on the job... PERIOD

You're preaching to the choir in some ways. But if you think a steel worker, or auto worker is beating down doors for those jobs, you need to get out more....or at least broaden your reading list. They're angry (at the world in general) because the jobs they've always known and expected to retire from are gone, stolen by corporate and governmental greed and incompetence. They honestly believe that all Trump has to do is wave his magic wand and those same (or similar) jobs are just going to reappear out of nowhere and it's all unicorns and rainbows again. And when that doesn't happen (even giving Trump the benefit of the doubt as far as good intentions might go), the backlash could get very ugly....these folks have had their hopes and expectations raised. And they don't want to be disappointed (again).

They weren't considering it at all until Trump.

It's kind of business 101 that not all deals happen. If you rely on only one, it's massive risk and doom is likely.

Enough of these kinds of deals are certain to happen.

At least Hillary won't be ending the coal miners' jobs.

Trump isn't waving any magic wand, he's using a carrot and stick. Do right, you get the carrot. Do wrong, you get the stick.

U.S. Steel said Thursday the 10,000 laid off steelworkers that president and CEO Mario Longhi said could be called back to work because of optimism created by Donald Trump’s election referred to an industrywide total and not to U.S. Steel.

The Pittsburgh company said federal jobs numbers indicate more than 16,000 steel industry workers have been laid off since January 2015 because of unfairly traded imports.

In an appearance on CNBC Wednesday, Mr. Longhi said Mr. Trump’s victory created “an environment of positive optimism.” Many business have hailed Mr. Trump’s win and Cabinet selections, saying the promise of lower taxes and less regulation will create jobs.

Mr. Longhi told the network the optimism could lead to the recall of close to 10,000 workers in the industry.

I'll start thinking when you start reading. Too many of these jobless folks don't want "service" jobs. And they freaking admit it!! They can make more on the dole....or even making and/or selling meth. When I was jobless, with a wife to support, I did whatever it took (legally) to put food on the table and pay the bills. I never took a penny from the government (including unemployment that I had earned. Your choice as to whether that was pride or stupidity). But too many of these people believe from the bottom of their hearts that the government and corporate America owe them better than they are getting......if for no other reason than they are entitled as white Americans. And if you think that is a left wing media narrative then you need to broaden your horizons.

And no, I don't think hamburger flippers should be making $15 an hour. If more and better jobs existed, along with an actual functioning educational system, that discussion wouldn't even exist....
