How do franchise's get players How will the Bobcats get players? Are they limited to the free agency? What is their cap level? Just wanted to know these 3 answers. I heard that MJ might have a job there, hopefully he dosen't decide to come back and play a few more years...
They get their players in the following ways. 1. They get the 4th overall pick in next year's draft. They can go ahead and select a player, or they can trade the pick. 2. There will be an expansion draft. Each NBA team gets to protect 8 of their current players, and then Charlotte will then select a player from the list of un-protected players. 3. Signing free agents. I think their cap will be in the $50 to $52 million dollar range. The same as the current franchises.
Actually, there team salary cap wont be at 52 million. Its lower than the rest of the teams in the league for that year(and maybe a year beyond?). Its put in place to prevent a team from signing 2 max players and building in just one season. I don't know what their cap will be set at though........
Actually here is a more accurate number for their salary cap. So anticipate the Bobcats having a salary cap of about $30 million their first season, with the ability to exceed that cap through certain exceptions. If the Bobcats choose to be frugal in the expansion draft, they can -- particularly if a large number of restricted free agents are left unprotected. If the Bobcats draft a restricted free agent (a player whose team can match any other team's offer for him), that player immediately becomes an unrestricted free agent. So the Bobcats could draft a handful of restricted free agents simply to eat up some of the minimum 14 selections in the expansion draft, without adding to their payroll. Adios Jamal Crawford. Charlotte could draft him, which would make him an unrestricted FA, which means Chicago would have to below the cap to resign him. Talk about a pretty pickle. Or would they still retain his bird rights(which would allow them to resign him and exceed the cap)? I am going to have to look into that.
