Defense has nothing to do with it. Being a "true" pg has to do with your offensive skills not your defensive skills. So you're saying Nash isn't a true pg? That is bs.

About Boris Diaw, he is the one person I think Nash hasn't made better at all. Diaw can't shoot worth anything, so Nash has alot of trouble getting assists off him in that fashion. Diaw gets his stats off one on one opportunities, and I don't see how Nash helps Diaw's defense, passing, and rebounding

Nash helps Diaw's assist account. Nash passes to Diaw and the team rotates to Diaw and than he passes to Marion for a dunk. Nash gets secondary assist that way and it doesn't count on the stats.

Diaw gets alot of assists off of post ups. Diaw himself can drive and kick. In the highlights alone against Dallas, he had three drive and kick assists himself. Diaw's improvement has little to do with Nash, but rather because he is simply getting the ball and playing with confidence

john stocktondrive dish and if u leave him open the 3 is good why else u think the Jazz did not trade him or lose him to free agency. He's too pure of a point guard and to lose that.... ur an idiot

when i want to give an example of true point guard i say look at chauncey billups, he plays defense, he passes, he can shoot, he's clutch, he's never a liability on the court like lets say steve nash, sure nash can rack up the assist but he can't stop the opposing point guard if his life depended on it.....that's why i think billups is THE best point guard in the league right now<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (mavsfan1000 @ Apr 14 2006, 09:10 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>How does defense define a true point guard? That is an added bonus to that but not a part of the definition. True point guard is comfortable with running his team. Possibly leadership is another part of a true point guard.</div>no point in having a true point guard if he gets scored on everytime he's on defense, that's why i would never want nash on my team, sure he'll make you better on the offensive side but it don't matter when you are trying to win a championship cause he gets beat by everyone on the other side of the court and makes ppls job harder when on defense

That would mean the best point guard and not pure point guard. They aren't the same.

billups is still a pure point guard to me, he can pass the rock just as good as nash, he can score better then nash, he can do everything nash can but better IMO

Billups is a scoring point guard that has learned to pass. Hamilton is one of the best players in the nba in moving without the ball. Billups doesn't see the floor as well as Nash. So in that sense Billups is not as much of a pure point guard as Nash.

well i'm guessing this is an opinion thread, and in my opinion i wouldn't take any point guard in this league over billups, billups makes things easy for you, on both sides of the court, nash makes everyones job harder when playing defense.....so again i define a true point guard as someone that is never a liability on the court on both sides of the ball
