I would expect Marcus to be Krstic-like when he comes back. He just needs to make sure he's ready before rushing back into the game. Sitting out won't improve your defense, or your ability to read the game and make decisions at game-speed. His shot will also probably be off for a bit, but as long as he can run through the offense, and still drive to the basket, I think he'll be effective.

So can we just be quiet and watch the games?
You can't affect a player by your words on the internet.

It doesn't mean a thing.
I thought Marcus played his best at the beginning of the year, and got progressively worse as the season went along - culminating with the playoffs when he was just about unplayable.
Of course I hope he learned something and will make some strides in his second season, but to predict he's going to be great just because you wish it to be true isn't realistic.
My prediction is that he will do amazing things at times, and the rest of the time he will be maddeningly inconsistant and generally bad.
The best case scenario is that by playoff time (if the Nets make it) he will be able to contribute with his great playmaking skill and his weaknesses can be compensated for by his teammates.

He'll be fine, he has a year under his belt, fewer off court distractions.....typical of all rookies. He will be able to fill in for the 15 Frank needs in place of Kidd.

His defense sucks. But he might be the only player the Nets have other than Kidd who can consistently run a team.

I hope I'm not butting in here.

Let's not forget that he was also terrible on the offensive end last season.
He started out displaying his marvelous court vision and setting up his teammates for easy hoops.
As the season progressed he played well as a spot scorer and offensive spark off the bench.
Then, he ababndoned his strength - his playmaking skill - and became a turnover machine. He threw horrible, "fancy" passes, took ill-advised shots, and made bonehead decision after bonehead decision.
Then, when this kind of play - along with his lack of defensive ability - earned him less minutes, he sulked and acted like the coach was out to get him and his poor play wasn't his fault.
He's very young and he didn't handle things that well. That's not unexpected at all. But it doesn't mean anyone should expect him to come back and immediately begin saving the season.
He needs to be worked in slowly, get his conditioning up, and be put in situations where he can keep things simple and accentuate his strengths.

QUOTE (Jizzy)

I think he's going to play well and Ghoti is going to be wrong.

What specifically did I say that's going to be "wrong"?
If it's that he won't be consistent and won't immediately save the season, I hope you are right.

did anyone else notice that antoine wright was used at the point agianst the Lakers, with Kidd as the 2 guard? I didn't get it either. Although Kidd took the inbound pass, he gave it to Wright at the top of the key who became the decision maker, while Kidd floated off to the left. Wright dribbled a bit and then passed it to Kidd or Carter. Don't know if this was a matchup thing or if we are looking at Wright's role expanding further. He has very, very few turnovers and has recently shown the ability to make some nice passes.

I just hope he's healthy and motivated. He's never going to be a lockdown defender, but if he hears enough that's he's a bad defender, hopefully he put in extra effort on the defensive end to try to at least slow down all those little guys that always cause the Nets so many problems. As far as his offense goes,I think that he will be better as the Nets style right now (w/ one big on the floor, and an athletic one at that) works well w/ what he can do.

That's exactly what Dave D. said happened to him during Summer League.
Perhaps he's being trusted more as a decision maker and passer, but as a point guard, it just ain't gonna work.
