How long of a leash should Chauncey have?

?

What should we do with Chauncey?

  1. Fire him - even young players deserve a good coach

  2. He should be on a short leash - if we look like we're not progressing, he should go in season

I think the belief is that if TS was coaching this team it would have looked like it has a coherent plan on offense. That's all.

This is what's known as a straw man. Yes, we expect to lose to the Clippers. But (a) we're not judging Chauncey on THAT ONE GAME, and (b) you can lose and still look like you know what you're doing. We didn't do that.

Hopefully coach Billups will be more in touch with his team this year, and less concerned about delivering a superior coaching system.

Last season... (oh god, here we go... stop talking about last year, just get over it.) ... after B2B 6 game road trips in December. Those extended road trips were grueling. Each were 10 straight days of flying around the country. It'd been almost a month since any of his players got to go home.

After the jet lag caravans, Blazers FINALLY have 2 days off to rest their bones. Coach Billups demanded his team go to practice on both days. Not optional shoot around, run some stuff with young guys. No rest, you guys need to drill down on some new looks I'm thinking about.

Even workaholic Josh Hart had to speak up about it. I don't remember the exact quotes, but Josh wasn't exactly excited about not getting a day off from hooping.

I did like that Chauncey pulled the starters last night after Blazers went down by 25+ in 3rd qtr. He wasn't expecting some crazy drivey stealy sprinty 3pt blasting rally to get back into the game.

Billups has to do a better job giving his main rotation rest this season. Last year, Chauncey's desire to be NBA super-coach exhausted what his team was capable of.

Chauncey waives the white flag in the end game far too soon. It doesn't promote winning culture. I don't know why people think it's Chauncey's first year and give him a lot of rope...he hasn't had a two way team with an identity going on his third season. We looked bad in preseason too. I don't want to hear post game stories about how he failed as a young player either...I want to hear about how he wants to win now. Doesn't matter what your roster is if you don't have a playbook and I haven't seen much of a playbook since he's been coaching. This roster has depth and talent but clearly needs a plug and play system and can't just roll the ball out and expect Scoot to win a foot race down the court every possession.

Adjustments are nice, but that's for down the road—let's start with a clear-headed offensive and defensive scheme where it doesnt look like the players are late/early/confused all the time.

I'm gonna give this team a minute because it's young and there are a lot of new players, but you gotta see progress on this stuff.

Nobody expected this team to outplay the Clippers.

Losing games because of a lack of talent is not “tanking” in my opinoin…..it’s LOSING.

We should hire that one coach who was going to be the next Phil Jackson….what was his name…..he took over the most talented lineup in the league and “lead” them to a 39-4 record during the ‘15-‘16 season…. Oh yeah Luke Walton. I thought he was supposed to be a coaching genius. Yeah not so much.
Coaches get too much credit and too much blame. Even the GREAT Luke Walton couldn’t have lead this collection of talent to a win against the Clips.

    Talent wins, not coaches.

Yeah but if we don’t have one we should at least have the other. Having both is better. Just ask Scottie Pippen.

what scheme did you like from the Spurs that you arent seeing on the Blazers?

Talent wins, not coaches. people use to say Stotts needs to go, now Billups. the next coach it will be the same if we dont have better TALENT!!!

I never said Stotts needed to go. He is a good coach.

Billups isn't, as far as I can tell.

It's not about the results, it's about the process. Seperate the two.

That's why Rafer Alston was such a huge success in the NBA.

Funny how much more talented the Warriors suddenly got when they replaced Mark Jackson with Steve Kerr. Likewise the Bulls when Phil Jackson replaced Doug Collins.

If the Blazers had THE BEST COACH IN THE LEAGUE...

how many wins do you think they'd have with this current roster?

some alarmingly bad stuff so far from billups. no semblance of any schemes on offense, defense still making basic mistakes.

he's anchored himself to scoot. so he will get at least this year whether he deserves it or not.
