There is a flaw for the bean counters when it comes to the "never pay the LT" strategy. It's really good when you have teams like Dallas, Portland, and the Knicks massively into the LT paying $10s of $millions and you get a nice cut because there just aren't that many teams under the LT. But when those teams aren't paying so much in LT, or not at all, there's not much to divvy up to the non-tax teams. May as well pay a little tax at that point. That said, Hinrich's brittleness probably made the decision for them.
