yeah i had a chick i worked with throw me under the bus too. we went on this week long training for work with a rented car from the company. she kept telling me we should go home and get paid. i admit i was kind of on board since the training was mind numbing, but i didnt want to go home i just wanted to chill in hotel and get paid still wrong, but different. I caved and we went home. we ended up getting caught. now on the way home she had made up this elaborate lie and told me we cant crack under pressure. they called her into the office first, she threw me under the bus but i didnt know, then they called me in. of course i said the rehearsed lie cause i didnt want to be the snitch and then they told me she already told the truth so i was like oh word ya we did it, then i said it was my idea being a noble idiot. She needed the health insurance. no sexual assault but she still manipulated the situation.
A friend of mine is a professor at a university and although nothing ever happened he implemented a policy that when students come to his office for any assistance the door always stays open. And in lecture he leaves his recording devise on till every student has departed. It sucks, but one accusation could ruin his career unless he can immediately show it is false. And his job includes failing students, some of whom may be vengeful.
And my friend told me a story about a different professor who had a recoding devise on when a student, a young man, came and argued after class that he should have gotten a higher grade on some exam. After the professor wouldn't budge (he was already being more lenient then his policy stated) the young man threatened that he would accuse the professor of soliciting a bribe. Of course the professor just smiled and said it was time to go. He brought the recording to the administration and the young man was reprimanded somehow. I think he ended up dropping out due to grade issues, but that recording kept him from ever being able to use some trumped up BS on any of the other teachers too. This was at University of Arizona by the way.
These stories bring up a good discussion. Recording people surreptitiously is illegal in many states. Heard stories of people getting busted trying to prove something someone else did. We need to keep it so government can't record you without a warrant but if I record you threatening to kill me I shouldn't go to jail for it.
I used this tactic in law enforcement. i always made sure i was on camera so no one could claim foul play. some officers seek to go off camera, I wonder why?
Well in this case recordings are consented to. They are done for uploading the lectures for students, many professors simply don’t press stop until the room is empty.
No, I figured they're advised that they could be recorded beforehand. Not so easy when your boss is all over you at work.
