The problem with the NBA is two words: DAVID STERN. Back when the league was actually competitive, there was alot more emotion involved. Even though there were a few ugly fights (Alonzo Mourning & Larry Johnson) players played with alot more heart. You'd fight, get suspended a game and come back. The game was more exciting because fans knew the teams REALLY HATED each other. There was alot more contact and less ticky tack fouls, and there weren't as many media-created "phenoms" out there. It was fun to watch. But now the WNBA has more contact than the NBA. If Horry had pushed Nash outta bounds in a 80's game, it would've been just a regular foul. Maybe a couple boos from the crowd but that's about it. But Stern has takin the initiative to "clean up" the game at the expense of the intregity of the game.
Something needs to be done. Taking the emotion out of the game was wrong firstly. The dress code was wrong, secondly. I think the standard of play has dwindled which makes it harder to get excited about, the NBA champs are so damn boring to watch.......... We need to get more teams like Phoenix and Golden State that will run and score quickly and entertain. Plus, we need better skilled players like Mike. You could never NOT watch a game if Jordan was in it!!
The personality has been taken out the game of basketball. It's bein ran like a highschool league. Referees are deciding games and players like Lebron are being catered too because of image. We're being force fed superstars like Dirk who haven't even reached greatness yet. Instead of promote a "team game", the league promotes certain players. Too many fouls, not enough contact, and not enuff emotion. Whatever happen to rivalries? Nowadayz if a player even looks at another player wrong it's a 3 game suspension (unless ur Steve Nash or Lebron James). Stern needs to loosen up on the suspensions and let the players play.
