I bet you would. A large amount of my friends and former co-workers are current or retired Federal employees, as I am. I just attended a retirement of one of them at USACE in Portland last week. There's a bit of an exciting buzz around the Corps of Engineers as they are already formulating plans and scenarios to build the wall. They anticipate being asked for design input as well. While many are Dems most Federal employees put America's security way ahead of any partisan politics or personal sacrifice, and the shutdown had solid support from many while the rest aren't really affected. This whole federal employees living paycheck to paycheck garbage is ridiculous. The absolute worst paying Federal job is still better than average private sector pay for that job description. Besides, nearly all civilian Federal employees are enrolled in a Thrift Savings Retirement Plan where the government matches the money they save. Employees can borrow from their account for financial emergencies or to purchase a home. All payments plus 1% interest go back into their savings account. I used mine twice in my 17 years working for America. Somebody mentioned a BLM botanist suffering. I worked 6 years at BLM and if anyone there is suffering financially, it's certainly not because they missed a paycheck or 2.
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman" Bill Clinton “We simply cannot allow people to pour into the U.S., undetected, undocumented, unchecked and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, lawfully to become immigrants in this country” — 2005, Senator Barack Obama.
I've got friends in the Corp of Engineers who would have nothing to do with any stupid wall and they've risen high enough to decline such work. Actually, they are now at retirement age and could take that route.
What's this got to do with ending the shutdown without a penny for any stupid Wall? The wall will get built when Mexico pays for it - up front.
President Trump totally set the hook today. After an entire month where he very publicly made several real concessions to the Dem base and illegal aliens, and offered a wide assortment of options for agreement by both sides, reaching agreement in principle with several powerful Dems in spite of Pelosi and Schumer's repeated tantrums and awkward photo-ops highlighting their empty argument for refusing to sit down and negotiate and their very public refusals to simply sign 2 separate Republican bills that would have paid Federal employees without any concessions from either side. The 2 of them look so uneasy and unsure every time they speak, while they bring no message at all except to criticize nearly everything they have voted for in the past. No one can deny he was willing to negotiate and Dems said go fuck yourself to America and Federal workers in so many ways. The dozen or so murders committed by illegal aliens just during that 35 days certainly doesn't help the Dems childish and dangerous stance. Then there's the taxpayer-paid Hawaiian vacation Pelosi took, and the Puerto Rico beach bribe bonanza where hundreds of lobbyists padded the wallets of Dems, Menendez photographed hiring that hooker on the beach... Now he has turned the hourglass over and the Dems have until Feb. 15th to get what they can in return for the wall, or get nothing in return for the wall. Feb. 16th he can declare a National emergency and the courts will look at the continued obstruction from Dems and will have no choice to agree. Although, Dems should keep in mind that Mitch Mc also has an ace he has yet to use, that can get anything passed in the Senate, the nuclear option. Either way, the wall is a done deal. Now it's only a matter of do the Dems lose face and voters, or do they go over Pelosi for America's sake. I'm pretty sure nearly every Presidential hopeful is going to withdraw their support of her, unless they aren't seriously running.
I fight for the underdog, it's how I've lived my entire life. Slaves are the ultimate underdog, therefore I fight slavery in all it's forms.
Trump ended the shutdown so that he could do the State of the Union Address. Narcissists will be narcissists after all. I can't even remember the last time I watched a state of the union address.
Funny, you quoted the last two successful 2-term presidents. Dems, natch. Hoisted by your own petard!
I'm a slave to a charred, medium rare, prime NY steak accompanied by a quality glass of red. Please help me. You've gotta admit, at least my wine is the right color.
So, do you return your government pension? I thought not. Dudes like you only hate "socialism" when it allegedly applies to others. But personal pensions, taxes that work in your favor, corporate socialism, your own government pension - I'm sure you got no problem with those. What a bunch of hypocritical hogwash.
Wow! This post reflects much stupidity. Only Trump is rich enough to reject his pittance of a salary. The rest of us must work with system we face, approve of it or not.
I'm just talking about the hypocrisy of hating when others get help, but having no problem when your team gets it because "that's different." You and Maris cry about "socialism" but I am sure you take your pensions and social security.
Thankfully I have never listened to one, most of the time I truly can't figure out what the hell he is talking about since he speaks to you as if you are a dumb child. It's not like it matters, it will all be lies. Trump isn't working for Americans anymore than any president past Jimmy Carter did. No, they sold America out long ago, they're all working directly for corporations and the extremely rich nowadays. And this is why I consider each and every one of them beyond Carter, to be traitors to America.
