I don't think that the people who are upset, are upset that they didn't get big name free agents, it's that they let Ed Davis go for *less* than the MLE. And then signed a scrub. Now if they can magically pull off some kind of signing of TPE trade, then yeah, our reactions will look silly. Thing is, none of the teams in the division got worse. Portland, as things are right now, have gotten worse.
The fact that the signature of Stauskas and the departure of Ed Davis are linked is the first non-sense.
I get that, but I think it’s a conscious choice on the Blazers’ part. They didn’t let a valuable player like Ed go simply because of the money. They have other plans and he doesn’t fit with them.
Make sure if you see anyone around town that works for Neil, make sure you boo and hiss at them. They are not welcome in our restaurants anymore.
The summer is long. There’s plenty of time to organize mobs with torches and pitchforks if Olshey can’t pull this off. I’m just saying it’s not a good look for us to hang him before it’s even possible for the plan to be executed.
You're wasting your breath. You can't reason with people who think the humiliating beatdown by the Pelicans was something to be happy about.
So if the Blazers don't make a trade by the end of July that improves the team, are you willing to change your tune?
If the TPE expires and there is no plan that materialize, I would. By then I still trust our management. This also means trusting Dame to give his "OK" to this move (letting Ed go for whatever reason).
Not sure how you get from my suggestion that people should temper their reactions to these first hours of the off season with a little bit of understanding about reality to the statement that I don’t care about the first round beat down, but okey-dokey I guess.
It’s just frustrating. Extremely frustrating. As a fan when one of your good players leaves for basically nothing in NBA money, on opening night of FA you go sign some guy who has been nothing but a disappointment in the NBA. You couple that with the fact NO’s moves are the reason the Blazers can’t do anything in free agency and it’s all just at a boiling point for a lot of people. Not only did NO give out big contracts in terms of money per year to ML and ET, he signed them for 4 years! Couldn’t help himself I guess, and same with AC. Then to be told over and over oh just wait for Neil’s plan, wait for his plan. I think we’re seeing his plan get under the cap. So far his plan the last few years has led to nothing why keep waiting for those”big trades” he never makes. You realize his big move the last few years was a mason Plumlee salary dump and giving away Crabbe for nothing to get out of the contract he give him. At least the salary dump got us Nurkic.
Sure. I just think it looks pretty stupid to overreact before it’s even possible for the plan to be executed.
I hear you that it seems like an over reaction, but I just dont trust that NO’s got a “plan” that leads to anywhere.
Because what happened in the first round reflects several *years* of NO's plan. What makes you think anything is going to change with more fan patience?
Besides that summer we also went into last year’s draft with three first round pick and only came out with Zach collins. That’s not okay. He’s a snake oil salesman. Good talker. That’s it. He did fine after lamarcus left by grabbing Davis and aminu, getting moe for a second round pick but after that it was all downhill. We constantly hear about dame and cjs trajectory and building around them. It’s nonsense. Dame went to Paul Allen a year ago and asked to get him somebody and here we are, let go of a fan favorite and a dame favorite for who the fuck knows why and we come out with stauskas?!? The issue was never terry stotts. It’s Neil. Terry has to work with this mediocre team the best he can. Just like last year every team in the west just gets better. Dallas was ass last season, now their squad looks decent on paper with Dennis smith junior, luka, Barnes, deandre. Phoenix has an up an coming squad. Utah continues to roll. We are stuck. Stagnant. We have actually lost talent as opposed to gain it because who the fuck knows how Simon or Gary Trent junior will play out. Lost ed, shabazz, pat. Gained stauskas which practically is pat. I don’t know how I feel as a fan. Yeah I will watch the team but I almost am at a fuck it stage right now like I know we will be mediocre as fuck and I hope dame stay with us because we will be in this shit for another year at least. We have no assets this idiot Neil always speaks about. None. It’s a joke. Gave away crabbe because it was such a bad contract. Batum became vonleh and he’s not on the team anymore. He won’t break up dame and cj. I don’t either but at this point you kinda have to trade cj for something but it won’t happen. Just fucking up dames career. He doesn’t deserve this bullshit and neither do the fans
Why is it every year when we complain about Neil some of us are overreacting when he hasn’t proven time and time again he has no plan. Just pissing in the wind. This isn’t an overreaction. We have a terrible gm. The ed Davis move caught everybody off guard and dame and cj even had to tweet about it. Our local dumb fuck sports media were all shocked by it and didn’t get it. We have Neil his chance with all his shitty contracts. Last season he did nothing and it’s looking like another season of nothing again.
Let me ask you this; Ed Davis is the perfect teammate, works his ass off, Dame loves him, fans love him. Did Ed’s lack of an offensive game make it easier or harder for Anthony Davis to cheat off of him and double Dame every time down the court? Re-signing Ed on the cheap would have been a popular move, but would it have made the Blazers any better able to beat the Pelicans in another series?
I’m not defending Olshey here. I don’t know if he can pull off the moves needed to make the Blazers better or not. I DO KNOW that the tools that are available to work with can’t be used until after July 6th so I’m not going to waste time ranting about things not happening yet.
