I don't know, but it sure costs me a lot of time understanding it. Frankly, I skip over most of his posts because of it.
I think we've established several times in several threads that there are ways to clear all the necessary space by essentially renouncing all the FA's and dealing Aminu or Davis for a pick. My understanding is that the discussion here was whether or not there were ways to get both Parsons and Howard while also keeping at least two of Aminu/Davis/Harkless. I'm waiting to see a scenario that makes that possible without: A) Dealing both Plumlee/Vonleh, or B) Getting Houston or Dallas to take a severely overpaid Leonard in S&T.
Maybe we're being a bit misguided in thinking of a S&T deal with Houston. What about doing a deal with Dallas for Parsons instead? Dallas could use Aminu, since they have nobody at the SF position. They'd probably take Harkless, too. They have $30M in committed salaries, so plenty of cap space. If they'd take Mo, Aminu, and Leonard for Parsons, that's $21M off our books. We could be over the cap and make that deal.
http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q89 If a team re-signs its Larry Bird or Early Bird free agent in order to trade the player in a sign-and-trade transaction, the player's new salary is greater than the minimum, he receives a raise greater than 20%, and the team is at or above the cap after the signing1, then the player's outgoing salary for trade purposes is either his previous salary or 50% of his new salary, whichever is greater. The team receiving the player always uses his new salary.
WTF? We have to dump those guys to clear the cap space to sign both Parsons and Howard. The deal would effectively be Mo, Aminu, and Leonard for Parsons and Howard. Is that a good deal?
Who is this "recently signed player?" Leonard is a $7M cap hold Harkless is a $7M cap hold Aminu is a $7.6M salary Add it up and we save $21.6M in cap space if we offload them to Houston or Dallas in a S&T.
Yes and in those dumps (especially), I'm guessing we will be getting picks at least in return. In your deal, we get just Parsons and Dwight as a FA. Not maximizing our assets at all.
Dwight is a big damn kid. Blazers would probably score some points if they took him to an amusement park, or something fun. Not even kidding. Have the meeting over paintball. He'd love that, and it would show him they did their homework. He's a huge lego fan. Ellen had a bust made of him in legos. Portland should put him in a Blazers uniform at the presentation . Jesus, do I have to think of everything?
It saves us $3M in cap space. We get Howard's $24M salary in exchange for $21M of cap holds and salary. It allows us to keep Ed Davis, too.
You're having difficulty reading again, I see. I said "two of" Aminu/Harkless/Davis. All the proposals I've seen have us keeping only Davis, or only Aminu, or only Harkless. And again, you cannot include any other players in a S&T deal. If we were to S&T Leonard to Dallas, we wouldn't be able to send Aminu along with him.
