http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heyman/22709809/yankees-are-dangling-phil-hughes-for-a-hitter The Yankees, desperate for offense, are talking to teams about right-handed starter Phil Hughes, sources say. And while Hughes is 4-8 with a 4.55 ERA, he still might have decent value. Hughes, who has 78 strikeouts against only 25 walks, is a free agent at year's end, and with the Yankees still hoping to get below the $189 million luxury tax threshhold for 2014, there's no belief he'll be back in pinstripes next year. "I think he could fetch quite a bit,'' one rival exec said. http://riveraveblues.com/2013/07/rosenthal-yankees-are-aggressively-pushing-joba-and-hughes-90546/ Via Ken Rosenthal: The Yankees are “aggressively pushing” both Joba Chamberlain and Phil Hughes on the trade market. He hears Joba could be moved to an NL club soon. Another source says that while the team is talking about both, nothing is imminent. The non-waiver trade deadline is exactly three weeks away.
It's a no brainer to try and trade both and get as much as you can get for them. They aren't going to be on this club next year so why wouldn't you?
Absolutely...I am hoping they trade both of them soon. They need to get an impact bat for Hughes that can replace Hafner or Wells and then maybe a 4th outfielder or someone more reliable for the bullpen for Joba but that may be wishful thinking.
Wells you can live with because he plays the outfield. I just wish the guy would hit a damn homer already. He hasn't since May 15th which is absurd. Hafner on the other hand is finished. The guy is straight up somebody who needs the DFA tag asap.
why would any team give up anything of value for either of them? Both can walk at the end of the year, and neither of them are lights out that would put a team over the hump. Face it the Yankees fucked up big time with both of their development.
...who knows...maybe they can cook up some sort of package for the 2 of them...maybe even packaged with other players...I dunno.
