Yeah, but it happens. I remember as a kid, we were moments away from being right where a wrong-way driver crashed his car head-on into another, committing suicide.
I had a guy in oncoming traffic blow a tire, swerve to his right onto the shoulder, then he overcorrect to the left and rolled over across my lane and into the ditch on my side. I was close enough that debris flying off during his rollover hit my windshield. The way he rolled, and from the shape of the SUV when it stopped, I don't know how the heck he wasn't killed. Just a few scrapes and bruises, IIRC. this was on Highway 34 just between I5 and Lebanon, four lanes wide...
At least you have a visual chance if they're coming at you....I got hit from behind by a drunk driver in the slow lane on interstate 80 on the way from Tahoe to San Francisco...he was going 130 and I was going about 65....looked in the rear view mirror and all I saw were two ribbons of light...totaled my car and hurt my band members in the back seat..ruined a lot of musical gear...the guy went to jail for drunk driving..plead guilty..I.bought the car the day before the trip...hadn't transferred my insurance yet....it was Christmas eve....sucked big time....not an expensive car but still..
Technically, yes. Back in college I was front-ended in the drive-through of a Wendy's. They must have changed their minds about eating. I don't think it caused any damage. I survived. Of course I've also been smack dab in the middle of a 6 car pile up on I-5... that was fun.
That would be scary. We're you a part of that pile up or was it a lot of action all-around you and you evaded it Nascar style?
I was definitely a part of it. I think I was the 3rd car, so right smack dab in the middle. I remember seeing smoke from the car in front of me as it braked hard, and I was at least able to brake a bit before I hit them, then I got hit from behind, and then I felt at least two more crashes from the cars behind them.
I wonder if that's the "safest" place to be in a pile up. I'd bet you don't want to be the first car getting hit, second might not be too bad as long as car 3 was paying attention. Then you'd have to think by car 5 they would notice and have their breaks down faster than cars 2,3, and 4. Then by that point you've got a nice cushion behind you as long as someone doesn't completely slam into the back car. Either that or it's like a newtons cradle... Did you feel each successive impact as if it were you being hit? I wonder who is at liability in that situation? Does the person in the back get stuck with the liability for everyone? Or were you liable for the person in front of you only...
Reminds me of a video I saw last year: Man, that is some terrifying shit. That's I-80 in Wyoming from a blizzard in 2015.
All people are my brothers and sisters... I may disagree and argue with lots of you, but the last thing I want to hear of is one of my Blazer Brethren to be killed or hurt in any way.
You're so nice. I can think of 5 or 6 ways HCP getting hurt would make me at least laugh a little. I don't want him to ever die though. Immortality for HCP!!!
What a nightmare. The white beds of the truck probably made the stopped semi's near impossible to see in that blizzard, hence why people were so late to apply the breaks. Getting hit by a Semi at free way speeds would really suck. People underestimate how much damage a car on car accident can do, even if its just 15 mph.
Not really. Regardless of political affilitation, i secretly like pretty much everyone on this board. But im the oldest brother of 6 so i show my love by being a dick. It's only natural.
Word! I believe we all originate from the same place and therefor must all be here for a similar reason. My philosophy is that should there indeed be an "afterlife" I wouldn't be surprised to find out that someone I considered to be my enemy in this reality, is actually my friend.
