Obviously i want the Blazers to suceed, and to win against Denver, but i cant stop thinking about (if the reports by Shams and Quick are true) that Stotts will be fired if we lose, and to get excited to see a new Coach, and hopefully a new offense and defense. I cant watch this ugly Stotts basketball anymore.
I've been on that bandwagon for a while. Clearly the team needs a change. It's not a creative offense anymore, and I'd sacrifice offense from Dame for a defense that is top 10 from the get go, not when they finally realize that they shouldn't be fighting for the 6th spot but instead should have been fighting for the 3rd spot. This will be Stotts final job in the NBA, it's passing him by.
The only change needed is that you need to come join me in the Laker forum. It’s quite enjoyable. Nobody complains 24/7 over there. We all realize that If you have enough talent it doesn’t matter WHO coaches. There is this one guy who shows up every now and then and posts claims that LeBron is getting “OLD”....... but then the same guy always disappears during the playoffs!
As someone who has friends who are Laker fans, and have been around Laker fans (as a group) for well over 20 years, there is as much complaining there as there is here. Sure, they think they're more important than everyone else, but they are all convinced the league has it out for them.
I disagree. It might be worse, or it could be better. I'd love to see a coach who utilizes Nurks passing more, and runs plays that incorporate cuts to the hoop and takes advantages of the players talents instead of just has them shoot 50 threes a night.
What would suck is if they do let Stotts go, and we bring in some old tired retread of a coach. If they are going to make a change..... make a change!
It will be the same shit. A mediocre Blazers losing in the playoffs. I probably have better odds of winning the lottery than the Blazers do winning a championship.
I doubt that. Billy Donovan and Scott Brooks keep getting hired. Stotts will end up somewhere, if he wants it.
Yes, let's a get a new coach who'll change the offense so that's no longer the #1 offense in the league, and who'll suddenly turn the players Stotts had no choice but to use (CJ, Kanter, Carmelo, DJJ et. al.) into an amazing defensive unit.
Jones Jr is a good defensive player. But it doesn't take much to improve defense, because defense isn't so much about athletic skill as it is being in the right place at the right time, and knowing when and who to double. There is nothing that is stopping those players from being competent defenders, cept to those who are convinced that there is nothing that can be done.
Stotts will land another NBA job maybe as assistant for sure but more likely he will land another head coaching job.
You think so? The only reason he's stayed in portland as long has he has is Damian. He's a .500 coach (and for those who are known for sending PM's correcting people, his winning % is .515) with a winning % of .35% in the playoffs. There are currently 2 coaches in the NBA who are older than Terry Stotts. Dwane Casey and Pops. I can't see another team in the league hiring a guy who would be on the upper side of his mid 60's by then, to coach again.
You could argue that outside of Jack's first year in Portland, every coach resulted in the same thing.
