That's some nice revisionist history. Sure, Roy had prior knee surgeries that everyone knew about prior to the draft, but his knees didn't turn to "shit" until World Metta Peace (Ron Artest) stepped on his foot as he was cutting the basket a year and a half ago and caused him to lose all of the meniscus in one knee. Before that, his "shit" knees had been doing well enough to win him Rookie of the Year and make him a 3 time All Star.

If the Blazers waive Roy and sign Oden, they would still be able to use the full MLE. Teams only are limited to the $3 million MLE if they are more than $4 mil over the luxury tax threshold, and the Blazers wouldn't be if they waived Roy. That said, is there a guy out there available for the $5 mil MLE who can bring what Brandon Roy is capable of? I doubt it. I'd keep Brandon for this year, perhaps use the $3 mil MLE to sign a player, and then make the decision about cutting Roy prior to next season. I think he has more basketball left in him.

yet you forget to add that Roy will cost much more if Oden is kept as we would pay many millions in the Lux Tax and my take is he does not have much more bball left - especially of any decent consistent quality, his knees will only get worse the more he plays.

Yet You forgot to Add that we Have Paul Allen who is throwing caution to the wind to make something happen before he sells the team.

+ 6 months of rest for Roy and the Jury is not out.

There's no doubt that Brandon will cost the team significant dollars if they keep him. For this season and next, IIRC, the luxury tax is still at the same dollar for dollar over amount as in the prior CBA. Depending on what they do with Oden and other players, the Blazers will probably be something like $5 to $10 mil over the tax threshold, so it would cost PA an additional $5 to $10 mil to get to see what Roy is actually capable of before cutting him. I know that many here and around the league assume the worst for him, and that may prove to be the reality. OTH, there aren't many players out there who have Brandon's skills and I, for one at least, would dearly love to see how his knees are after more than a full year to regain strength after surgery and how he adapts his game to fit with his physical limitations.

This team needs to move on from Roy and focus on the guys that hopefully have their best years ahead of them at the SG spot. Keeping Roy around is just holding this team's growth back and postponing the inevitable.

Let me Remind you of Something, Paul Allen's yacht has TWO submarines. Nothing common about that. Roy is his Boy, and he's staying around.

Right now that's Wes and Hopefully Nolan. I'm sure there will be plenty of focus on those two. Plus, Roy can teach those two a lot through osmosis.

Roy's knees are so bad he couldn't play in his own charity game in Seattle or LMA game a month ago in Portland. He would've had over a month of rest after either game. Makes me very sad and I can understand how many fellow fans are reluctant to accept it, even bordering on delusional, after all he did for our franchise, but our beloved all-star is dead. He is never coming back. This is why a part of me wishes the lockout wouldn't have ended because thinking about it is so depressing.

I thought personal matters kept him from LMA's games. Link to his knees keeping him out?

    Great Breakdown!

Wow bro step away from the ledge. I can see what your saying but your premise is off. Roy didn't play in his own charity game for one reason, The upcoming NBA season, his #1 priority. He's not about to risk one ounce on his last chance to come back and prove everyone wrong that he's done. I understand how disillusioning it is to be a B-Roy fan, but at the same time I trust his resolve over everyone's feelings about his future.

He did this last year 2 games after returning from surgery:

I know he was inconsistent as hell, but BRoy gimping around on 1 leg is still a top 10 clutch player in the league. That has to be worth something.
