I don't think we'll drop Brandon Roy

Roy did get a double-team after his explosion against Dallas. The stiffs on the court with him, outside of LMA, have no prayer of doing the same. Dallas geared their defense to stop Roy, and it worked. We're looking at no playoffs this year, IMO, if Roy is let go.

I was excited the lockout had ended, but harsh reality is this current bench is very sobering if you are a blazer fan. Sobering as in a cop waking you up in your car after you passed out.

And after that miraculous outburst what happened? Roy did most of his damage in that game with the Dallas defense not doubling him, not trying to commit extra defenders until it was so far into his run that they'd pretty much abandoned all momentum and lost their edge.

Anyone else think the decision should be made for training camp opens?

Can you imagine bringing him in, he plays 3-4 days, and then the team cuts him?

I think if he makes it to training camp he won't be cut this year. More of a hunch on my part, though.

I'd like to say that it would be impossible for Bert/Allen/Larry to let something that foolish happen ... and then I just remembered who I'm talking about.

And honestly, one more outburst from Roy saying he's struggling because he doesn't know his role or he's not getting enough touches/minutes isn't going to go over well.

Nobody else on the team outside of LMA showed they could score one on one. Do you remember that series? Dallas isn't even a good defensive team, and they shut down the Blazers.

Batum was terrible, LMA was adequate, Miller had two decent games, and outside of Roy, that series is a sweep.

I suppose I don't mind cutting Roy if it means this team admits they're in a rebuild mode, and the fans on this board accept that they won't make the playoffs.

Roy accepted his diminished role last season. Cutting him without even watching him isn't going to go over well, either, considering how he basically saved this franchise and its worthless owner (and the worthless owner's cronies).

Not buying buy that. I think he just kept quiet more than anything, until after game 2 against the Mavs of course where he played like 5mins and let everyone know it.

Not saying he's a bad guy here, but he's still in a little bit of a state of denial. If he were to once again call into question how he's being used it won't be pretty.

I don't think they make the playoffs with him or without him. So in that case they might as well save themselves some money and see if they have anything at all worth investing in long term in Nicolas and Felton and even guys like Smith and Williams. Roy is certainly more accomplished and has a nicer resume' than any of our other bench depth, but whatever he's going to add to this team is going to be marginal.

There is no way that Roy's knees can handle back to back to back games so he's pretty much going to be a part time player.

But the question is if we dump him we gain the full $5mill MLE. Will that (hopefully full time) player contribute more over the course of a season than a part time Roy?

I'm just going off of a few key points:
A brand new point guard with little familiarity with his new team
A brand new point guard who played his best ball in an uptempo system ...
No big-man depth to speak of
    a really thin bench
A crappy schedule because most of our road games are going to involve a lot of travel.
A coach with a roster built to run, but also a coach who's shown no desire to let his team play that way at any point in his coaching career.
Oden will be ready when exactly?
LMA had a career year ... does that mean regression to the mean?

That adds up to a lot of question marks and not much that I would want to bank on in a fairly competitive Western Conference. I'm not saying they can't make it, but I'd put the odds at 40%

    Roy demands a double team???????

    BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

OK, I know you were joking. He can't drive past my grandmother. He can't even dunk anymore. Granted, he knows how to get open for a set (jump?) shot and he can still shoot, but 75% of his game has circled the bowl and is floating out to sea.

    Double team. That's rich.

Or what happens if we dump Roy, get the $5mil MLE, and make an offer for a player only to get rejected and get nothing for Roy in return? It wouldn't be the first time a FA rejected us.

Sounds exactly like last year except for the PG part.

Hell, last year at one point Camby was out with an injury and a 70% at best Przbyilla was the starter. Also, Gerald Wallace for the whole year.

You're the board's Negative Nancy though so it's not like I expected any different. Someone has to assume that role.

The full MLE only goes to teams under the cap. So the glamor destinations can only offer the reduced MLE. Of the teams that can offer the full MLE I think we're just as attractive as any of them.

Pretty emotional for a guy that doesn't have a strong interest in this stuff
